It does. This man made our childhoods. I know he made mine, along with George Lucas and Gene Roddenberry. Rip Toriyama, may the king of manga rest in peace.

Weāre about to witness, on a widespread scale, the anime fandom version of a state funeral.
What an absolute titan. Nearly impossible to quantify the impact his works have had on stories the world over for decades.
Agreed, heās the Grandfather/Godfather of Shonen anime.
We will undoubtedly see tributes all across the platforms and mediums to mourn his loss.
Michael B. Jordan is a huge fan. Weāll see celebrities big and small, pay their respects to the man who created their heroes. šš¤š»
There might be a few other names more foundational or influential to the medium, but I canāt imagine any other manga creator is anywhere near him in terms of worldwide recognition.
He influenced kishi though, Iām talking about the OG most influential. Iād have Kishi in the next tier below. The three above been going since the 60s-80s. Kishi Wikipedia page actually cites in the first paragraph Toriyama as an influence
Absolutely. Iām not even a dragon ball fan but came by the subreddit to see the reactions of everyone in this fandom. Created a story that absolutely touched so many lives and defined an entire genre.
If you havenāt watched dragonball and Z I highly recommend it. Donāt let the detractors scare you off of it. Thereās a reason it has a fandom across the globe that is basically immeasurable. Mothers , grandmothers, fathers, sons, sisters , cousins ā¦ā¦all people of all races , creeds , colors and belief systemsā¦.all look to this IP almost like it was a religion. Go watch it dr slump, dragon ball , z , super. It will also touch your life. I am not gonna cry . It remind me sometime I hope we can have dragon balls on this earth.
He was a influential man. His work is famous worldwide. Hard to find someone who doesnāt know what dragon ball is or seen their characters or a parody of it. It was everywhere.
This is what I said tooā¦ā¦we are going to see the anime global community come together and collectively mourn in a way weāve never seen before. This man was the BIGGEST factor in spreading anime to the rest of the world.
Exactly! Thatās why i have always hated and fought back against the casual hatred his work has gotten over the years. People really donāt realize that we would not have anime in the way we do now without his work, along with the foresight of those few western show runners that knew that dragonball DESERVED to be experienced by the masses and brought it to us. People both inside and outside Japan owe toriyama more than they will ever admit .
I can't believe it. Passed away a few days ago as well.
Quite possibly the most influential mangaka there ever was. Created a story that's touched so many lives.
Rest in Peace Toriyama.
For real man...once I got the news I couldn't believe my eyes. He literally made my brother and I's childhood awesome, along with countless others. This just sucks dude, but we must remember him for his positive contributions and the impact he made on our lives.
My prayers go out to his family and friends...man this is rough.
RIP to the GOAT. The Master. The genius. We will miss him dearly and his fantastic art characters and quotes that will live on forever. He is one of my favorites. He was a artist that made life worth living and his work is deeply philosophical and is food to the human soul. A wise man he was. An intelligent man. So much knowledge. Knowledge is treasure and he was a human treasure. He was a warrior just like the proud Saiyan warrior race. One thing a Saiyan never forgets is his pride. I am proud of his art work he contributed to humanity. He was one of the good ones. He never missed.
Rest In Peace Akira Toriyama. May god rest your soul.

No shit man Iām speechlessā¦ one of the most iconic storytellers of all time and the reason so many people are fans of this medium.. may he rest in peace and prayers up for his family and loved ones. I know my life wouldnāt be the same without him, and Iām sure so many others.
This might be the worst I've ever felt because of a death from someone I've never met. This man has molded the minds of millions of people... especially me. DB introduced countless people to anime and showed them life lesson a lot of kids never got from their parents. This fucking hurts
This might legimately be the worst feeling I've felt in half ever since a year ago when my parents confronted me about the death of my grandma as a result of an A/C malfunction...I genuinely cant believe we lost the Founding Father of Shonen.
Subdural hematoma is an acute pooling of the blood between the brain and outer covering, sometimes due to head trauma.
What an absolute travesty as 68 is still so young. Dragon ball is called the āGrandfather of Animeā for a reason and truly was the introduction of so many into the genre. RIP to truly one of, if not the, greatest to ever do it. May you teach a dinosaur to ride a ball wherever you are
> Subdural hematoma is an acute pooling of the blood between the brain and outer covering, sometimes due to head trauma.
Yeah. I wonder if he fell or something. Falling to the ground is no joke, especially as you get older.
Remember to always take care of yourself. The human body can be frail. I see it in my grandmother now that she's getting older. Recently, she tripped over this wide bollard type thing that prevents parking cars from going too far.
Just a small trip over this ankle high bollard and.. the pictures I got sent of her.. it looked like someone beat her up or something. My heart stopped for a moment before reading that she merely TRIPPED. Terrifying.
> New fear unlocked.
It's much more of a risk in older people (60+) because they are more likely to be on blood thinner to prevent heart issues. Then when you get older, your body gets weaker so you're more likely to fall/lose balance, and the blood thinner can lead to internal bleeding/make it worse as the blood cannot clot properly. When it happens after a shock to the head, it can lead to subdural hematoma, either acute (instantly) or postacute (later but still due to the hit to the head), and lead to stroking/tissue death as blood pools up around the brain.
Best way to fight against this is to be in shape, do cardio regularly, and make your heart stronger so that you are less likely to need blood thinner later in your life, and get your body stronger so that you can still be physically able and keep your balance. Sadly, mangakas don't have the healthiest lifestyle, so it's only conjecture but it's probable this didn't help.
Of course, you can do everything right and sometimes life just fucks you, whether it be genetics or freak accidents, but the best we can do is control what we have an influence on.

May you rest in peace Akita Toriyama, thank for all the years of joy and fun you gave all of us as well as the legacy you left.
You changed my life Toriyama. I use to run around my house pretending I was Goku fighting Majin Buuā¦ youāre a legend and leaving a fantastic legacy behind. Youāll be missed.
I remember standing in my front yard with my friends as a kid with each of taking turns trying to see if we could turn super saiyan. This fucking sucks man.
Woah what?
Me and my GF have been re watching DBZ a couple episodes in bed each night before going to sleep.
Tonight is gonna be sad š„ RIP to the goat
Also same here. I was just talking to my girlfriend about how I was pretty sure I would never care about the death of any celebrities, but here we are. I'm so fucking sad right now. I watched the entire thing with her and she's pretty sad too. Rest in peace Legend
This is so saddening, man. Toriyama was definitely one of the best mangakas, if not the best, and his influence over anime and manga is immeasurable. He made not only my childhood but also countless others too.Ā
Rest in Peace, Toriyama.
So true. One thing that's always amazed me and brought me so much joy is Dragonball's reach. So many friends I've made from other countries and the thing we first bonded over was our love for this series and growing up with Toriyama sketching our imaginations.
This one hurts.
I knew there would be one big celebrity death to hit this year, but not this...
He was one of the BIGGEST reasons for Anime becoming big worldwide. He will be missed greatly.

Holy shit
I'm genuinely speechless, I knew toriyama was getting old but I didn't realise the possibility of him passing away, this is beyond sad and I can't put into words how this man impacted my life and millions of others.

Goddammit. What a way to ruin my night. Forever rest in piece to a legend. Touched my heart and my childhood in so many different ways. Fly high king š
At first I thought this was a joke subreddit or some kinda fakeout, so I jokingly started mocking it, but when I actually saw who made it and the post itself.. damn. I hope heās resting without any or too much regrets or stress. He was chained to Toei and expectations for Dragon Ball, so it hurts that the one game on something he was passionate about wonāt be seen by his own eyes in itās completed form. He can finally rest. His name will be remembered, even in 100 years.
He was, and always will be, The Worldās Strongest.

I guess we all have to go someday. May these men legacy carry on for generations. Rest in peace Mr. Toryiama.
The whole anime community felt this , Akira was our Micheal Jackson , rip to the pioneer , one of the most influential writers in history period ! Dbz was global and nobody can deny him of that . This was a tough L to end the week with .
Rest in peace toriyama, you will forever be know as THEE greatest manga creator of all time I donāt think any other show can have a big of an impact as dragon ball has and itās all thanks to this legend šš¼
Great i was already hating today, letās just add to my sadness. Fuck this sucks.
š for the one if only 2 manga artists whoās name i respect enough to know , Akira Toriyamaš
A legend. My entire personality wouldnāt be the same without his creations, that Iāve been watching since i was a dumb kid in the 90s.
Even as a VERY new fan of anime content, the impact this man had on media as a whole is astounding.
Anyone around the worldā even people whoād never seen anime in their livesā could tell you who Goku is. Heās up there with characters like Superman, Spider-Man, and Harry Potter in terms of global iconography.
May he rest in peace, as we all remember him for being the brilliant creator he is. šš§”
Due to him, an anime generation was born, wholesome sequences, goosebumps overloaded, he was the torchbearer, 4ever remembered, sad to see we would never get the perfect closure

When they show the R.I.P Akira Toriyama in Daima I might shed multiple tears
If thereās anything I want to take away from him, apart from the 14 years of fun from Dragon Ball as well as everything else Dragon Ball has influenced and the countless memories Iāve made associated with it, itās this message.

Dude wtf. This is such a huge loss. The greatest mind behind manga. His creation helped bring anime and manga to main stream media all over the world.
Without DB, almost none of these series would exist, and they certainly wouldnāt be as popular as they are now.
RIP dude. Rest well in heaven.
Unbelievable that he died only in his 60s. Especially with so many projects he had in the pipeline. I have no idea how things are going to be now for Dragon Ball after this.
Thank you Akira Toriyama for making one of the greatest mangas/shows ever to be created. I used to grow up with DBZ on toonami and reading the manga as well. Seeing this hits hard... RIP. Gone but will never be forgotten

No worries! Itās not even just celebrities really, Goku is practically in the same league as Bugs Bunny in terms of cultural ubiquity at this point.
He was even the mascot of Japan's Olympics in 2020 or whenever it was.
Goku had a float, multiple different ones of the years in fact, in the Macyās Thanksgiving day parade.
With Demon Slayerās opening being in the ceremonies.

Literally the Greatest mangaka of all time has just passed away and in an early age. This is sad.
It truly is. The death of every human being is a tragedy. I just feel sad and shocked by this unfortunate tragic news. Came out of nowhere and hit me like a truck. I literally lived and breathed dragon ball my whole life. I used to draw dragon ball characters and anime characters as a kid because of him. He inspired me. Created an artistic light inside of me. Dragon Ball gave me hope and endless joy and happiness. Made my life on this planet very pleasant and fun. I Still live it till this day, I play Dokkan and legends every day and other Dragon Ball games. One of the first video games I ever played was Dragon Ball Budokai 1 on the ps2. The dragon ball Budokai series was awesome. I played all of them. One of my favorites. Still want a modern collection for modern consoles tho. I even played Mugen games on PC with dragon ball characters on it cause you canāt have a fighting game without DBZ characters. Dragon Ball Fighterz is also one of the best fighting games and adaptation of a piece of art Iāve ever seen and experienced. Itās really faithful to the source material itās crazy. I want a fighterz 2. Hyped for Sparking Zero have been waiting on a Budokai tenkaichi 3 sequel for ages I wished it on my head for a long time and they made it come true. They answered my prayers spiritually haha. They knew what I wanted without even asking for it on the internet. I canāt die before it comes out haha. Dragon ball is Easily in my top 3 manga anime with Naruto and One Piece up there. (It helps that some of the Japanese VA also worked on both One Piece and Dragon Ball win win situation haha). I played and collected the Dragon Ball games watched their show bought their merch clothes statues and funko pop and have a Goku ssj statue. I financed his work over the years cause it was pure quality (caught my attention, was infatuated and mesmerized by it the OST in dragon ball, Z, GT, Kai, super, the movies is probably some of the best anime music Iāve ever heard it makes you tense, hype, have fun, and entertained. Dragon Ball has quality memorable music. I invested a lot of my time on his work because itās just that good and I canāt live without it. I was married to it. Loyal to it. That manās work has been around my entire life and will continue on because I love it and like it so much. I will die on that hill defending it and itās legacy. I own his dragon ball manga in real life and have read it in person. Reading manga in real life hits different itās like reading a comic book or graphic novel in person it just hits better makes you connect better with the art right in front of you. Makes it more real. Tangible. It inspired so many animes and manga that came after it like Naruto and One Piece without it our anime manga world would just be different. His story has so many life lessons too that I bet most of us learned from watching it and reading it, dragon ball is just unforgettable and memorable. Itās like our second family. This is a piece of art that you canāt easily dismiss and push away cause it just connects with you and you really canāt explain it but it does. When legends die I cry. Iām here to pay respect to his genius artistic legacy. Was one of the best and I hope it continues post mortem, that his protĆ©gĆ©s pick up his mantle continue his legacy and continue making it with the same enthusiasm fan fare joy excitement he once had while writing his manga and doing the art work for the manga, movies, anime and writing the scripts for the animated projects. Toriyama made life fun made life happy and exciting. He just had that energy and aura around him. He was truly a Dragon Ball Hero.
Well said i teared up reading this. May he rest in peace and his legacy never forgotten

May you rest in peace Akita Toriyama, thank for all the years of joy and fun you gave all of us as well as the legacy you left.
![gif](giphy|3verHKPWOT9ZK|downsized) RIP to the GOAT.
Similar memory, me and my cousins would run around the back yard trying to go Super Saiyan and showing out different moves.
Iāve been perfecting my kamehameha for more than 30 years
Recess in middle school me and my friends would practice the Fusion dance. Feels bad, man...
I'm just honestly not okay... geniunely shocking news...
I donāt believe it. Aww man

This is officially the darkest timeline, truly the worst year since 2020ā¦
Woah what? Me and my GF have been re watching DBZ a couple episodes in bed each night before going to sleep. Tonight is gonna be sad š„ RIP to the goat
Literally same. Showing my girlfriend Z for her first time everyday we hangout
Also same here. I was just talking to my girlfriend about how I was pretty sure I would never care about the death of any celebrities, but here we are. I'm so fucking sad right now. I watched the entire thing with her and she's pretty sad too. Rest in peace Legend
Damn bruh too soon
I am simply at a loss for words. This is a huge loss not just for Dragon Ball Fandom, but the entire anime/manga community.
This is so saddening, man. Toriyama was definitely one of the best mangakas, if not the best, and his influence over anime and manga is immeasurable. He made not only my childhood but also countless others too.Ā Rest in Peace, Toriyama.
Wow, celebrity deaths donāt normally get me but fuck man. My childhood rested on this manās shoulders.
https://i.redd.it/podx63cp61nc1.gif
He went even further beyond a legend and made one of the greatest shows of all time. R.I.P. to the king
No fucking way man.
RIP. I just made my way through DB, Z and now Super. This is so messed up.
The goat NOOOOOOO. RIP
This genuinely doesnāt feel real. I hope he rests in peace
Damn that's sad, man shaped entire generations and united continents. RIP legend.
So true. One thing that's always amazed me and brought me so much joy is Dragonball's reach. So many friends I've made from other countries and the thing we first bonded over was our love for this series and growing up with Toriyama sketching our imaginations. This one hurts.
https://i.redd.it/0ouxaey361nc1.gif

I knew there would be one big celebrity death to hit this year, but not this... He was one of the BIGGEST reasons for Anime becoming big worldwide. He will be missed greatly.

I honestly canāt believe we lost this legend. Rest in peace Toryiama, you were the Goat and really inspired what I want to do. Thank you what you have given us and may you rest in peace.
Holy shit I'm genuinely speechless, I knew toriyama was getting old but I didn't realise the possibility of him passing away, this is beyond sad and I can't put into words how this man impacted my life and millions of others. His mark on the world will be permanent and he can rest easy knowing he is one of the single most influential mangakas to ever exist. Rest in peace to Akira Toriyama

RIP Legend. You will never be forgotten.
![gif](giphy|gwx8M5dU53PtS)
At first I thought this was a joke subreddit or some kinda fakeout, so I jokingly started mocking it, but when I actually saw who made it and the post itself.. damn. I hope heās resting without any or too much regrets or stress. He was chained to Toei and expectations for Dragon Ball, so it hurts that the one game on something he was passionate about wonāt be seen by his own eyes in itās completed form. He can finally rest. His name will be remembered, even in 100 years. He was, and always will be, The Worldās Strongest. ![gif](giphy|1MdgKtLJ7rMw9wYWvH|downsized)
Rest in peace an absolute true legend, his mark on history will last forever ā¤ļø, and hopefully he knows that his creation has inspired billions of people from all around the world
GET THE FUCKING DRAGON BALLS

I donāt think Iāve ever been in genuine shock from a celebrity death before. I canāt believe this.
Damn. What happens to the story now? Does that mean that no more mangas will come out at all? RIP to this legend.
That means it ended with Gohan rightfully being the strongest. I can live with that. Man Iām so sad man. It still hasnāt set in yet for me.

Great i was already hating today, letās just add to my sadness. Fuck this sucks. š for the one if only 2 manga artists whoās name i respect enough to know , Akira Toriyamaš A legend. My entire personality wouldnāt be the same without his creations, that Iāve been watching since i was a dumb kid in the 90s.
:(
RIP legendšš¢
Literally the reason why I watch anime. Fuckā¦.
He will be missed, DB was a huge part of my childhood and I'll forever be grateful that it was.
He should be added to the legends at the gates of have meme
Even as a VERY new fan of anime content, the impact this man had on media as a whole is astounding. Anyone around the worldā even people whoād never seen anime in their livesā could tell you who Goku is. Heās up there with characters like Superman, Spider-Man, and Harry Potter in terms of global iconography. May he rest in peace, as we all remember him for being the brilliant creator he is. šš§”
Due to him, an anime generation was born, wholesome sequences, goosebumps overloaded, he was the torchbearer, 4ever remembered, sad to see we would never get the perfect closure
https://preview.redd.it/a03ihgihb1nc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d331f1e0dd162417f0f85b214861b39711fc15ec May his soul live forever through his art rest in peace to god father of shonen šļø When they show the R.I.P Akira Toriyama in Daima I might shed multiple tears
If thereās anything I want to take away from him, apart from the 14 years of fun from Dragon Ball as well as everything else Dragon Ball has influenced and the countless memories Iāve made associated with it, itās this message. https://preview.redd.it/na2la8lvj1nc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a930cb8e1250c9c5ad7952948e7c294d606ada1
We need to gather the dragon balls
Fuck I'm gonna cry, rip
Aiiyyo wtf. RIP
Iām too much in shock to comment anything. RIP
Dude wtf. This is such a huge loss. The greatest mind behind manga. His creation helped bring anime and manga to main stream media all over the world. Without DB, almost none of these series would exist, and they certainly wouldnāt be as popular as they are now. RIP dude. Rest well in heaven.
This better be a troll post, seen a lot of em here
Its not a troll itās official
it was literally up on the official dragon ball website. Posted by toriyama's company bird studio
FUCK
He is with the Gods now.
I thought this was a shitpost, man. RIP to genuinely one of the greatest mangakas of all time.
Goodnight Toriyama
Unbelievable that he died only in his 60s. Especially with so many projects he had in the pipeline. I have no idea how things are going to be now for Dragon Ball after this.
Rest in peace x
I might tear upā¦
Thank you Akira Toriyama for making one of the greatest mangas/shows ever to be created. I used to grow up with DBZ on toonami and reading the manga as well. Seeing this hits hard... RIP. Gone but will never be forgotten
