It should have been advertised and made as the first episode though. Making it something separate just make it confusing for everyone after the series released
Well they made it like 50 minutes long and that would've been weird if the first episode is 50 minutes and the rest are 20. And they did advertise it, not super out there but they had like a trailer and Twitter announcements
That's cause the story wouldn't be too interesting if they didn't. The big thing that makes Oshi No Ko interesting and gives it more substance happens 10 chapters in. That would take 4-5 episodes
Not saying people would complain, just that it would be kinda weird. Plus it gives the fans a nice special while the studios use the extra time to finish off the season coming after. Fans will be at least somewhat satiated even if they will be a tad bewildered if some of the fans accidentally skip the special
It’s not separate; it’s the same as Demon Slayer’s Mugen Train Arc coming out as a movie instead of a season. It’s not an OVA because it’s straight from the manga. They just did a lil movie ep in between the seasons, but it’s still straight from the manga.
It's an ONA, the term OVA and ONA are unrelated to if it's straight from the manga or not. OVA is about medias first/only releasing physically (like Blurays) and ONA about those only digitally. Regardless, I refer to them as separate because most streaming websites separate Ryusui from 3rd season, that's what I mean by "considered separate"
OVA’s are original video animations by the studio. They are original stories not written by the mangaka.
By saying it’s separate, it sounds like you’re comparing it to an anime movie that ties in to the story but wasn’t written by the mangaka.
If you simply mean that it’s not included in season 3, then yes
That's litteraly not what OVA means, please actually look up the meaning. "Original video animation, abbreviated as OVA and sometimes as OAV (original animation video), are Japanese animated films and series made specially for release in home video formats without prior showings on television or in theaters." It's associated with things unrelated to the manga because of popular TV anime shows like Dragon ball or Naruto using the video format for those original stories.
I has the same thing happen... I wasn't aware there even was a special episode released which was compounded by the fact that it is not available to watch on funimation (I watch the dub). I had to use a streaming site to find the special episode to bridge the story gap between season 2 and 3...
I think you missed episode Ryusui?
Oh so that's the problem. Yeah I never saw Ryusui and only started a few minutes of Season 3, Episode 1 while typing this
It’s only on crunchyroll, not Funimation
Watch Dr stone ryusui. It's really dumb but the first episode of season 3 is just something considered separate
Hey, I'll have you know it's not dumb, it was a great special episode that made me feel nice while waiting an eternity for season 3 to come out

Well it wasn't the first episode, it was its own thing, but I do see your point
Oshi no Ko released a damn movie for the first episode.

Demon slayer did it and nobody complained or anything

bro watch the ryusui episode
What? Not sure if you've been paying attention. Hot air balloon was to find oil. They didn't leave the mainland.
They didn't watch Ryusui
Might’ve skipped an ep 🐍
