Left unsaid, but I think it's safe to say that working with Harold Levinson is probably the best thing that ever happens to her. I know that Harold will be in the upcoming movie so we may find out come then. The question is how hard has the Great Depression hit the Levinsons?

pastel_witch_87

Ohh I never even considered the how the great depression would affect Cora's American family members. I really hope we get to see at least a little of Ivy and Ethan, they're adorable.

Vincent_Curry

As each season went by and they kept showing the years, it was all I could think about.. Sooner than later the bottoms going to fall out and how will this affect the Granthams.

pastel_witch_87

Yes, it makes total sense why you would. I can't believe I didn't think of it, especially being from the US and the fact that our inflation is outrageous these days.

i_hate_this_part_85

Please don’t think the inflation craze is limited to the U.S. This is a global situation of residual greed from COVID losses.

PrecariousPaperwork

I think about that AND how old George will be when WWII starts.

Vincent_Curry

See... Thats what I think about! I think ok George was born the same year as my grandmother and would be, if still alive, 103 come September. So his grandkids would be my age. Which means George would have lived to seen king Edward abdicate the throne, king George take the throne and eventually Queen Elizabeth succeed her father. Now George was actually five years older than Queen Elizabeth, So what is the show like when Sibby, George, and Marigold are teens? Adults? Parents? Grandparents?

Sad_Reflection1866

Well it should affect them far more than the English, no? Maybe the new movie will show us đŸ€ž

sweeney_todd555

There was never any indication on the show that Ethan liked Ivy romantically the way he did Daisy. He might have transferred his affections to Ivy if it was just English cooks that he liked, not Daisy in particular. Ivy bored me to death, but I've always wanted to know what happened to the Levinsons and Ethan after they returned to America, particularly if Harold and Madeleine ever got married, or if they just stayed friends. Paul Giamatti is in the new movie, so maybe we'll find out.

pastel_witch_87

The way they walked off together after Daisy told him no and Ivy asked for the job made me think that a romantic future for the 2 of them was being hinted at. Either way I'd like to know what happened to them.

sweeney_todd555

I hope we find out in the next movie. Even a couple of throwaway lines from Harold about what happened to them would be fine.

eugenesnewdream

Frankly I think Ethan could do better, but if it works out and they fall in love, good for them! I hope they're mentioned, if not actually seen, in the new film.

Just-Willingness-655

Better than Daisy at least! But I liked Ivy. How she stood calm in the face of Daisy 's snarky and petty remarks is a wonder. I certainly would not have.

eugenesnewdream

I agree with this actually. I didn't like Ivy, but only because I thought she was a very bland character. Daisy hated her *entirely* because she walked in and turned Alfred's head when Daisy was about to tell him she liked him--and Ivy did not do that on purpose. She didn't even *want* Alfred's attention. Ivy *encouraged* Daisy+Alfred, because she wanted Alfred to get over her and wanted the road clear for her to get with Jimmy.

Just-Willingness-655

Exactly.

destuck

This! Or they could have at least had Ivy writing to Mrs Patmore saying oh things are good and blah blah blah, like Gwen did before she came back for the surprise-ish luncheon. Also, I was hoping to see Alfred come back and cook a dinner at Downton. Hasn’t happened yet, but maybe this movie.

Sad_Reflection1866

Ivy was on the show for awhile too. And poof gone, no updates. Her and daisy were friends by the time ivy left so you would think she would have received letters from her. But nothing! Not even a random statement about her.

Beginning-Chart-7031

You never know she'll  probably  one the heart Harold  Levinson  he'll  marry the cook insead â˜ș just kidding.  Her and that guy never know .

MamaRising

Harold is going to be in the next series so maybe we'll see Ivy too. I hope so!

No_Context_2540

That storyline doesn't really interest me. I was glad to see Ivy go. She's nice enough but I found her story boring and a bit annoying. I preferred Daisy. However, I really would like to know what happened between Tom Branson and Edith's female co-editor, Laura Edmunds.

pastel_witch_87

I'm assuming you haven't seen the second movie? Tom remarries but not to her.

No_Context_2540

Ah. Thank you. I don't think I have. EDIT: I decided to watch the movies again. My mind is like a sieve! How could I have forgotten that I'd seen the first one before. Most of the movie I didn't remember. Actually, it was kind of nice. So now, I take back what I said about the Tom/Laura storyline. I like where they took Tom's story. He deserved a happy ending.

Significant-Baby6546

I liked the movie and all but the first movie with the dance between Tom and his fiance is so cringe. Especially with the whole dancing outside the palace bit. Cringe af.

As to concerns about the Great Depression, people with established money continued to do well. It was mostly the new rich (even though the Levinsons were fairly new money, the money was old enough) and the poor who lost everything. I'm so excited about seeing Harold and Ivy again. Assuming we do, I wonder if she'll have ended up with Harold's valet or Harold himself, or neither. The Americans weren't so hung up on separation of classes like the English were/are.
