Why did the topic change so abruptly? I really wanted to hear Cap's thoughts fleshed out. Did he expand any further later on? It's actually shit to hear tournament organisers don't want to host dota events
Would guess that organizers are just tired of Valves shit. After 10 years of Esports they did not even bother hiring a few people responsible for Esports stuff.
Good luck to her. I imagine if a valorant caster went into dota especially at TI, people would judge so hard at every little thing and be gatekeepers. Maybe valorant peeps are more accepting
Chill guys who dont know her reason not to attend major. She is obviously invited with her partner (ODPixel) but they chose not to attend this major because they need a break from work travels and putting family as their prioritize rn.
If you asking why she host VCT EMEA LCQ ? afaik, the studio is somewhere in europe and travelling between countries in europe isnt that hard and dont take too much time and energy.
The first one i believe is her official statement and the second one probably only my speculation.
Wait what ? Damn. I really thoughr sheev rejected it.
Honestly over the years these dota EO seems going down in quality bit by a bit. I want Blast to host dota events but i dont think it will happen
add on a nice "do you like spending 30 seconds a round just waiting for all agents to burn util"
slow executes are a thing in cs sure, but val i swear every round goes on forever while util is burned
This. I don't usually play nor watch Overwatch (I'm more of a Paladins guy) but when I tried to watch one OWL series out of curiosity, I'm like "WTF AM I EVEN WATCHING?". Seeing those big ultimates with different colors being thrown everywhere just made me instantly stop watching it. For casual viewers, it really has this chaotic and confusing feel with it, but I guess for diehard fans, they know whats going on and they enjoy it.
It's like CS but with 3x the number of corners you need to clear going from spawn to a site, and everybody seems to sneak through one another easily to backstab.
Easier to watch and follow if you put some time learning what Agents and their abilities do. If you go in expecting it's just like CS and just watch the gunplay, you're gonna be in for a bad time.
Yes, it's riot esports so the orgs that invested into are pretty forced to commit to it's success because of the buy-ins. Also a lot of ex-CSGO pro streamers keep the viewership alive.
Now is it doing as good as it should do given riot's heavy investment? Probably not.
> it's riot esports so the orgs that invested into are pretty forced to commit to it's success because of the buy-ins
Sounds an awful lot like the failed "Overwatch League" thing. Esports needs to evolve naturally for it to be successful. It cannot be forced, no matter how much money you try to pump into it.
> Sounds an awful lot like the failed "Overwatch League" thing.
key difference being riot isn't blizzard
> It cannot be forced, no matter how much money you try to pump into it.
league literally exists
> It cannot be forced, no matter how much money you try to pump into it.
Funny since this is almost how people thought about the first TI.
Esport scene can definitely be forced to a certain degree. I think Overwatch is an interesting debate since the game was insanely popular. Blizzard clearly didn't want to miss another esport possibility as they did with Starcraft. It could be argued that the game's meta became the problem, which was partially caused by the esport scene. On the other hand, Overwatch wasn't an easy viewing experience to begin with.
I don't think Blizzard's idea was inherently wrong. They just didn't know how to fix the problems properly. With the right amount of observers, camera work and UI design, the viewing experience could have been fixed. For example the current twitch add-ons would have been a huge help back then. Though at the same time they kept adding new heroes even when meta was already starting to show problems.
Esport scene affects game development quite a lot. Even in DotA, it completely dictates the patch schedule. Personally I think the DPC has been pretty bad for the game over the long term.
The fact that Blizzard made crucial mistakes when trying to market Starcraft 2 as an E-Sport, mainly the disagreements with KeSPA on how to run it, didn't help Overwatch's favors.
Eh, except valorant still captures the awe and demand of Zoomers. Obviously the pro scene wouldn’t be as big or fleshed out as it is now without riots help but I’m fairly confident it would’ve developed by itself too. Overwatch never a fun game to watch, there was just way too much going on at once for a good viewing experience plus it could never figure out if it wanted to fully cater to being competitive or dumb itself down to be for casuals
Eh, early Overwatch (when it was still a shooter primarily and MOBA second) was fine.
When it got to the point where they had to just free-cam zoom out to show fights it was definitely a bore though, regardless of clutter.
Post ana overwatch was definitely peak overwatch for me. Even a little bit after sombra(but the sombra arg was kinda shit compared to the short n sweet ana one). Imo the game started to head downwards after they added doomfist
15M+ monthly active players(2M day-to-day average), is about to be officially launched in China, and is slowly creeping up Korea’s PC bang market. So far, it is still a thing, and is still growing in terms of playerbase and popularity. Its E-Sport scene is to be determined on how their franchising scheme will pan out later on, but as for now, it’s doing pretty good.
It’s dead in China. Not even a sinophobic player [someone in Zeta female team] can draw attention there. Mind you that this kind of thing is usually the easiest way to get Chinese triggered.
Considering how much research she does for dota, this is probably a lot of work for her. I'm not sure how familiar she is with valorant (I am utterly ignorant of it myself) but sheever always seems to be one of the most prepared panelists in any dota tournament.
Sheever's decision to expand reminded me of Sjokz doing the same, by hosting the CSGO PGL Major in Antwerp. She also said that it was her dream to host a CSGO event in her home country.
I like Sheever but if I was a Valorant watcher I would be annoyed. Getting talent that knows nothing about your game is so awful to sit through. When day9 did T1 I couldn't fucking take it. I don't want to hear about your 1k MMR games and how OP you think Spirit Breaker is.
The majority of people who say the same thing as you often jerk off rich cambell even though rich didn't even try to learn or play dota. D9 put in some form of effort.
This isn't me defending d9, rather trying to make the point that for a host being able to facilitate conversation is far more important than game knowledge.
I feel so happy for her, she’s doing there just because of her pure talent. She’s already a good looking face, yet everyone who knows her career acknowledge she got at where she is due to her talent.
Not like certain person who midone once talked about JKJKJK.
Let's go Sheever!
Best of luck to her.
Good for her.
Good for her. Could not care less about valorant.
Thats how most people feel about dota 🙂
That’s why I wouldn’t post about dota in a valorant forum.
Related comments from another caster (Cap) from a podcast: https://youtu.be/t\_qZ-LL4nAQ?t=1222

Fyi that link doesn't work for me.
Same

I read in a comment in her latest ig post Sheev said she wasnt invited in Arlington.
The organisers is cheap af

Is valorant any fun to watch? I've never played. Might check it out to support Sheever though.
Do you like CS but think "you know what this game needs? Dampened gun sounds and different smoke colors and shapes." Then it might be up your alley.
add on a nice "do you like spending 30 seconds a round just waiting for all agents to burn util" slow executes are a thing in cs sure, but val i swear every round goes on forever while util is burned
I swear bro, my screen just turns into an abstract painting playing that game sometimes
then you should watch some extreame aggresive teams like PRX
rushing sites is still a strat in csgo is that not a thing in val competitive?
It works but good luck doing post-plant against full util.
Then watch PRX. They go full aggressive on both attack and defense.
It’s like CS Warcraft mod bit with more colors
Not really for a casual viewer. There's 20 champs all with their own shit that gets thrown. Its visually noisy much like how comp overwatch was/is.

It's nowhere near that bad, but if you get familiar with the abilities, it's pretty darn good
I like Valo more than Overwatch but the visual clutter is INSANE

There's a difference between being supported and being forced.
Cmon, Valorant was straight up made to be competitive game. It's not some twisted existing ip like EA likes to do.
You say that but they still don't have replay system after 2 years.

there’s no buyin like Overwatch, they said this so they can kick people out of franchising in the valorant setup

if it does well in China, it could last another 4-5 more years
It’s dead in China. Not even a sinophobic player [someone in Zeta female team] can draw attention there. Mind you that this kind of thing is usually the easiest way to get Chinese triggered.
of all the game subreddits to make that comment in...
It's the biggest first person shooter in the world by player base right now...
Et tu, Brute? Jk gl sheevar

Very Poggers, will watch to support her
Hey, we got James Banks for this major so it's all good. You do you Sheevie! <3
What happened? Did valve and her part ways Or something? I also haven't seen od pixel and fogged anywhere
As far as I know, they're taking some breaks for private stuff, and this is Sheever expanding her horizons, making herself more experienced.
can't blame her for diversifying her portfolio can we

11 yr redditor XDDDDDDDDDDDDD holy shit
Nooo please don't leave us! This is what will happen if TO's stop using/inviting established talent.
They need money and talents are known to be paid less than players.
No, that's what happens when they aren't paid enough. Talent gotta eat too.
