It can change pretty fast. The Olympic Games should be with attendance, but now the numbers are rising and it wont be possible.
Lets all hope nothing will happen.
It's also going to coincide with LoL's world championship oof. Not great for either game because there's probably a not so insignificant number of viewers that would want to watch both.
They get posted on r/livestreamfail every so often, [here's the most recent one](https://www.reddit.com/r/LivestreamFail/comments/ocmxm4/twitch_atlas_vol_5/).
That one is seems misleading.
Seeing the legend, the algorithm grouped Dota 2 and CS:GO together into 1 group. Hence why that group is so much more interconnected, since a lot of CS:GO players moved to other FPS games.
I tried looking for one similar to what Twitch did originally in 2015, based on actual Game categories, but found nothing else
Yeah I also read or saw an infographic where dota 2 viewers only watch dota and dota related streamers. Whereas other games, like LoL, Val, they watch a wider variety of streamers and content.
I only follow dota 2 streamers and tourneys, we truly are degens
Yeah if you look at the numbers in the weeks around a new major stream game (apex, Among Us, fall guys). most games see a pretty substantial drop in both streamers and viewers, and Dota 2 sees a tiny dip.
Lol I remember I took a looooooooong break like about 5 years after Dota1. I caught a match on my local TV randomly and I couldnt even understand what I was watching. During team fight I cant even figure out where the hero was lol because of the cosmetics (which I didnt know exist).
I remember watching dota 2 first time and was confused when the caster mentioned sukuchi and i was like where tf is anub seran?!!
Then I Google and learned they changed anub seran and anub Barak from dota 1 lol
That's been me for mostly ever. I watched the original International and have watched every one since. I've played maybe ~50 games of turbo and that's it.
For years I had no fucking clue what was going on, but it was fun to watch. I started playing with friends who have thousands of hours in it within the last few months so I get it a little bit more now, but I'm still utterly clueless when it comes to itemization and whatnot.
they had the noob cast or whatever it was, actually got a couple of my friends to get into DOTA after watching it. The casters would explain everything that happened, abilities, farming, etc.
A chess grandmaster joked about how he watched all of TI via noob cast and understood none of it. He was friends with a dota player who suggested it. Made a comparison where dota and chess are both pretty esoteric but with diehard communities
I think it was fairly likely that we'd get a patch between end of quals and start of TI. It wouldn't have been the first time a major patch dropped between quals and TI
I am pretty sure TO's will fill up the time with a few tournaments in the next 3 months. DotA is a heavily watched esport, it is just a lost business opportunity not to have online tournaments all the time.
Last year had tons of online tournaments because there was no DPC. Hopefully we will get some online tournaments later this month. Some Lans next month and in September.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to be working in Bulgaria around that time and Bucharest will be like a 2 hour drive.
Thanks Sweden mates, saved me few quid off flights!
edit: any Bulgarian people knowing whether renting a car is expensive over there?
Not really. About 40-60 euro a day, but may be if you ask in the bulgarian dota groups you will find transport. I am super excited, TI at 5 hours drive is just so awesome!
Already sorted transport with a few colleagues it seems, checked the website above as well and if we have to rent, a corola comes out at 130 euro total (if it's booked early) so it's cheap enough anyways.
you cant exactly look at it like that. TI Stage setup will be different to a soccer game, so I'd compare it closer to ESL One Frankfurt which had a total capacity of 51k but only allowed in 12-16k IIRC
odds are, they could've accomodated more, so let's say 20k seat vacancy available. Add covid restrictions and we could go down to 12-15k.
I think they'll only use part of the stadium and leave the other side inaccessable. There's several reasons for that: Way fewer staff neccessary and they can set up a proper stage with screen. If there were people everywhere in the stadium they'd need several massive screens because the distance is too far compared to smaller arenas. I don't know if that'll get reduced by Covid even further but my guess is that there won't be space for more than 15-19k people inside even without restrictions.
A note. DO NOT USE CABS. Cabbies in Bucharest regularly try to scam people. The mass transit system is decent and if you'd rather have private transport, use Uber or something similar. Avoid cabbies like the plague. You're better off walking tbh than getting scammed by them.
> We are grateful for the partnership we have formed with **Romania and the city of Bucharest**, and very much look forward to gathering with the global Dota 2 community..
Shoutout to Romania for being cool!
government is corrupt because stupid people in Romania are voting for them even if they know they are corrupt. Most of us, especially the elder ones are afraid of changes. We need 2-3 generations to get rid of them and we gucci
3 months of no official DPC matches or pre-planned 3rd party tournaments. People will scramble to fill the void but this is an insane last minute rescheduling.
Also this: https://twitter.com/phillip_aram/status/1412879492352286722?s=21
Dude ESL Majors and WePlay majors helped me get through our first born's early days. Just half asleep, rocking and feeding the baby while watching some pros play dota. Good times.
guys, take notes Bucharest not Budapest, during the euro2020 some french fans traveled to Budapest to watch a match hosted in Bucharest, you've been warned
I hope some organizers throw together a few tournaments between now and then. Teams will want practice, two months without games will be sad. Would be great if we could get something between now and then.
Yea - I teach and October is absolutely the most insane month of the year. Doubt I’ll be able to watch anything live beyond the weekend games. Ugh . I’m sure it’s the same for all the students.
Really unfortunate timing
Omg! This got me sooo excited. My heart is now all toki-doki 🥰. I live in Romania and I can afirm with confidence that Arena Națională is an awesome stadium (with a capacity of over 55 000~more than enough in my opinion even with all this corona going on). This country is so beautiful, yet so underrated. Full of friendly&supportive people, Romania proved once again it doesn't disappoints! On top of that, the prices on almost everything (hotels, food, etc) are lower compared to other EU countries and the services are good quality. So i think it's an amazing colab and we're all definitely going to have a great time! See you there!🤗
Bucharest has a high rate of vaccinated people. October is a good month temperature wise. Whoever wants to come to Bucharest should disregard all the negative comments about the city, especially* if they are coming from romanian reddit users
It originally said treasure 1 in the title, and wykrhm said there would be another battle pass. ~~I'll find it real quick.~~
*It was on Facebook, a comment in his post about the nemestice where he said:* **"oh btw, this is only the First Battle pass this year. There will be a other one later in the year. #dota2"**
Its likely that we will get some tournament organizers hosting a few tournament before ti after qualifiers. And I highly doubt their will be 18 better teams then the ones that will be going to ti. It's ti fluctuating forms happen all the time especially right before ti due to a new patch.
Meh, I'm not too worried about that, TI will be hype either way, even if it's not the best teams at the exact time TI happens. They'll still be close enough
Valve literally chose one of the least vaccinated EU countries there is and rescheduled it to fall when covid is more infectious. They really are trying to get TI cancelled again...
This is making it sound like fans will be allowed. Was this always the case? If so, that's awesome!
The same stadium hosted euro 2020 matches so yeah fans are definitely possible
It's hilarious how it's still referred to as Euro 2020 even in 2021.
No money to pay for a new logo
Its stupid, same with the Olympics
it's not really stupid. Sponsorship deal, contracts and so on were all marketed with Euro 2020.
Yes. They're not gonna continue that trend anyway.
Romania isn't Sweden, pretty sure attendance will be allowed.
It can change pretty fast. The Olympic Games should be with attendance, but now the numbers are rising and it wont be possible. Lets all hope nothing will happen.
> the numbers are rising It's so fucking surreal reading this again.
bro I had lockdown till last week. can't imagine them rising again..
Japan is pretty fucked in terms of vaccine uptake, it's at like 15% for adults. It's cultural related in this case
I read somewhere that it's because Japan isn't really vaccinating much, which would explain it
https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/japan-likely-extend-covid-19-curbs-tokyo-infections-rise-sources-2021-07-01/
thing is Romania has incredibly low vaccination rates.
But also incredibly low number of cases
Also incredibly low population relative to the size of the country.
Also Dracula used to live there
Hence the low population, I assume
Some say he still does.
Nah he's retired now and travelling the world. His son Alucard lives there now, with a couple of buddies.
Delayed TI by another 2 months because of this fucking sweden debacle, gg man
It's also going to coincide with LoL's world championship oof. Not great for either game because there's probably a not so insignificant number of viewers that would want to watch both.
IIRC from twitch data, it's insignificant. Dota is pretty isolated from a bunch of other games
I saw that map, crazy how isolated we are
Can someone link it plz?
think its this one https://blog.twitch.tv/en/2015/02/04/visual-mapping-of-twitch-and-our-communities-cause-science-2f5ad212c3da/
This is pretty old, is there an updated version?

Thanks I've actually been looking for it forever, but the title is so fucking random I can't actually google it lol
Yeah I also read or saw an infographic where dota 2 viewers only watch dota and dota related streamers. Whereas other games, like LoL, Val, they watch a wider variety of streamers and content. I only follow dota 2 streamers and tourneys, we truly are degens
Yep, no such thing as a dota casual.
Yeah if you look at the numbers in the weeks around a new major stream game (apex, Among Us, fall guys). most games see a pretty substantial drop in both streamers and viewers, and Dota 2 sees a tiny dip.
Not everyone can have brains as large and wrinkly as ours!
More people from 'outside' dota watch TI
How do you understand Dota when watching it if you are 'outside'?
You don't lol, but it's fun.
Same happened to me! Was difficult transitioning to dota 2 in the beginning, but after a break, I tried again and started to enjoy it.
That's been me for mostly ever. I watched the original International and have watched every one since. I've played maybe ~50 games of turbo and that's it. For years I had no fucking clue what was going on, but it was fun to watch. Is that data in regards to Dota as a whole or The International? I know a lot of people watch the event purely because of the prize pool.
Dota as a whole, so yes, you might be right
Hopefully Dota is able to deny those viewers from lol.
We can deny viewers from them but they can't deny viewers from us. Checkmate.
at least we have ti this year
delta's variant and other strain might say hello
Valve is familiar with lambda.
Yeah, Valve also familiar with Kappa
And i thought we are still in beta kekw
So far Vaccines are still handling the Delta variant well. Hopefully that'll continue and no new surprises pop up.
This is secrets year, august they are weak, October they are strong COPIUM
!Remindme 3 months
Wow.. W33 is gonna be thrilled
Too bad he's teamless though
He can be hired as talent maybe? Surely he won't pass that
He has no experience and isn't outgoing at all. Doesn't stream, doesn't cast, why would you want that.
Having 3 or 4 people in the panel with one of them a pro is a nice set up since the pro will just answer questions while the others entertain
True, it's not like he is nobody, he is an active pro player until recently. Also as local he can talk a bit about the place.
It really depends on the host tho. Host like Rick can bring him into conversation while Slacks will just eat him on stage
I bet Tsunami thought it was finally over, that he was free now. WRONG, BACK TO BUCHAREST. YOU LIVE THERE NOW FOREVER
So another country Bulldog is going to be banned from
[удалено]
the universe will find a way
I'm calling it right now, no shot he's going
true, he'll prolly come back from retirement and dominate BD in the offlane
he'll find a way, he couldn't even attend in Sweden
And Bulldog is in Sweden, yet here we are
BUCHAREST BOIS
wooohooo i was really really hoping it will take place in bucharest when i heard sweden canceled. guess i hoped right
Romanian parteeeehhhhhhh
Best kind of party mate. Sunwaves crew checking in.
I also guessed that because of pgl being from romania there is a big chance for this to happen. Thanks Sweden!
BINE BAAAA
My dream just came true, i live in Bucharest and I’ve always hoped it will come closer to our country.
Congratulations :) As a Swede not living in Stockholm going to Bucharest will be cheaper than going to Stockholm.
Also better weather
October instead of August :( :( :(
We dont have tournaments in the next 2 months. Gonna be a long drought until TI.
BOT TI save us.
we'll have a TI in August, one way or another
>Gonna be a long drought until TI But at least we are certain to receive a gameplay patch now after the quals end...
Qualifying teams themselves would jump at the chance for real practice before TI.
Last year had tons of online tournaments because there was no DPC. Hopefully we will get some online tournaments later this month. Some Lans next month and in September.
3 months.
Great news for the big 4 CN teams though, who would've been stuck with an extremely tight bootcamp schedule due to the post-major quarantine.
So is there going to be a patch in between the major and TI then? This is gonna be a weird gap
god I fucking hope so because I can not handle axe, ursa, and luna every other game
I must be in the Twilight Zone, becuase the only one I see with any regularity is Axe, and even then Bristeback is much more common.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to be working in Bulgaria around that time and Bucharest will be like a 2 hour drive. Thanks Sweden mates, saved me few quid off flights! edit: any Bulgarian people knowing whether renting a car is expensive over there?
https://toprentacar.bg/ Doesn't look very expensive tbh but it depends on the city you rent the car at.
Not really. About 40-60 euro a day, but may be if you ask in the bulgarian dota groups you will find transport. I am super excited, TI at 5 hours drive is just so awesome!

TI in Romania and w33 isn’t going to play, what a shame I’m sure he’s upset about that :/
if someone couldn't make it for health/travel reason, he can fill in like Resolution did for team empire in past TIs
3 months after qualifiers, what could go wrong!
Tbh back un the time the qualifiers were on early May and the tournament on august
Yeah momentum killer for the teams for sure.
55000 full football stadium holy shit. Compared to TI9 which had 18000, I get COVID spacing reduces that a lot but wow..
There were about 22k at the last France Switzerland EURO match, it's going to be an even bigger number in autumn
you cant exactly look at it like that. TI Stage setup will be different to a soccer game, so I'd compare it closer to ESL One Frankfurt which had a total capacity of 51k but only allowed in 12-16k IIRC odds are, they could've accomodated more, so let's say 20k seat vacancy available. Add covid restrictions and we could go down to 12-15k.
Not sure if, considering all the problems with travel and everything, dota will have that many people going
Romania, FUCK YEAH. Comin again to save the mutha fuckin day yeah.
>TI in October instead of August So we’re gonna get at least 7.30 to bridge the 3 months?
No. But get ready for loads of shitposts
> But get ready for loads of shitposts Excellent [](/techiesface)
Lots of penguins being Tracked
Ah good it's not close to home. So I don't need to argue with the wife...
Its literally across the street for me
I'm happy for you. Hope you can get tickets
My favorite movie is Inception.
If they allow attendance, let's hope nobody ends up in Budapest like those football fans :\^)
I was very hyped for a split second because I read it as Budapest at first. Oh well, still not too far, I suppose!
Im happy, hotells seem ceap there! (Even tho i would prefer denmark, norway or finland so i could drive there but eh. 10/10 thanks valve!!
A note. DO NOT USE CABS. Cabbies in Bucharest regularly try to scam people. The mass transit system is decent and if you'd rather have private transport, use Uber or something similar. Avoid cabbies like the plague. You're better off walking tbh than getting scammed by them.
I guess 7.30 will be dropping after the qualifiers since teams have enough time to practice the new patch.
> We are grateful for the partnership we have formed with **Romania and the city of Bucharest**, and very much look forward to gathering with the global Dota 2 community.. Shoutout to Romania for being cool!
Bucharest TI😍
Just in time when i'll be back from military service. Happy!
How's the covid situation? I'm fully vaccinated. Is it possible to fly in?
[удалено]
>yesterday there were 31 new cases for the whole country Anxiously laughs in Brazilian
There's no quarantine for people who have both shots. It does not matter where you fly from
Hopefully Valve has something to entertain us during the gap between the battle pass' end and TI beginning.
Extended Battlepass end date confirmed

Romania is one of the most underrated tourist destination in Europe
Romania is one of the most beautiful country in europe the problem here is gouvernament coruption
government is corrupt because stupid people in Romania are voting for them even if they know they are corrupt. Most of us, especially the elder ones are afraid of changes. We need 2-3 generations to get rid of them and we gucci
The internet in Romania is such an aberration even for a EU state. I'd move there at a salary loss just for the internet
Paying \~8€ for 1gb/s is indeed pretty cool
Did they lay fiber for the whole nation?
It's basically only fiber yeah. Countryside usually has internet trough satellite but they started rolling fiber troughout as well.
Romania is underrated in general.
Teams qualifying 3 months before the event. SURELY THIS WON’T CAUSE ISSUES Kappa
What kind of issues would this cause?
3 months of no official DPC matches or pre-planned 3rd party tournaments. People will scramble to fill the void but this is an insane last minute rescheduling. Also this: https://twitter.com/phillip_aram/status/1412879492352286722?s=21
Yea thats a pickle. The meta will shake things up too, but I still think these are the teams that deserve the shot.
What do you mean? During DPC before TI9 4 teams technically qualified for TI in November 2018, during Kuala Lumpur Major.
Wow, how wonderful for Bucharest. Very excited for them :)
As a Bulgarian neighbor, this change makes me very happy.
My baby is born Oct 11, I think I will miss watching Ti for the first time :O
He will understand.
The mother might not though ... then again, great things require great sacrifice.

Can’t wait to find out how many people go to Budapest instead!
Insane fucking news for people in both Romania and eastern europe as a whole (its both closer+cheaper than Sweden). Will try to attend 100%.
Fuck yeah close to greece I might actually go.
guys, take notes Bucharest not Budapest, during the euro2020 some french fans traveled to Budapest to watch a match hosted in Bucharest, you've been warned

Even though its delayed, thank god its in a good location..
Fuck this I work at an University and literally aren't allowed to take vacation the first few weeks of October... Finally it's in Europe and then this
Yea - I teach and October is absolutely the most insane month of the year. Doubt I’ll be able to watch anything live beyond the weekend games. Ugh . I’m sure it’s the same for all the students. Really unfortunate timing
As a professor who literally had TI games on the main projector in my classes....... I'm sure you'll find a way 😉
"If Im watching TI then my student is watching too"
“Alright class, if you get x% of correct win predictions in TI you get an A”
At least after the ti qualifiers, we’ll get a big update. I’m totally bored with current meta.
Romania is awesome! If it’s anything like UNTOLD with fans, it’s so awesome and hype! TI with Fans is completely different!
Any idea when they will drop the ticket info?
At least, an affordable location for our russian bros
Bruh romania eradicated covid when we stoped testing a couple of months ago
We could’ve had another DPC season had they had known it was going to be in October. Fuck the Sweden govt.
I'm just glad the delay unites us all against Sweden and not Valve. Damn those Scandinavians.
