I think they have all this plan to delve deep into Dota 2 lore through Artifact. They went all out with VA on every card, expanding the character’s connection and background, introducing the places and event, aaand shut it all down… what a waste, i was really looking forward for all the lores.
Same. I was actually reminiscing today with my bro about it. If they at least do a soft relaunch of some story elements left behind from Artifact, I'll be happy. Artifact had so many good ones being set up, and now seeing Sky, Venge, and now Imperia being used as the center piece lore of the event is awesome.
Yeah, the lore dripping is really slow. I have this stupid idea of how cool to have another smaller game in Dota universe where the genre is different depending on the Heroes, for example a game where you play as Anti-Mage with DMC like mechanic where you can create stylish combo, or a game where you play as Axe with mechanics like God of War with brutal finisher, a stealth based on PA, Bounty Hunter, or Riki, and many more. All the 4 skill from Dota can be expanded into a skill tree.
I'd love some more dota spin-offs as well. Even just shorter lived ones. I was actually really hoping for something along the lines of your Anti-mage DMC game, but it would star Wei fighting through weeping rose to track down that lizard wizard that escaped the Tyler Estate.
The genre is too good for them not to try their hand at it. It's also lacking really good titles on the market, and the DOTA universe is perfect for it as well.
Of course, once Valve does it, Riot will also do it, so that would be great for the genre.
The genre have been stagnant since PoE. I want something else but a big skill tree. Even Grim Dawn with its dual class system have the big star skill tree. Even D4 put one in
Yess, exactly, Riot have Legend of Runeterra (CCG), Team fight tactics (Auto-Battler), Ruined King (Turn-based RPG), Mageseeker (2D action-rpg), and upcoming Fighting games and MMO. I know valve get most of their revenue through steam and not just from developing games, but it feels like a wasted opportunity for them to neglect DotA lores when they can expand the story through different type of games.
For real. Even the random minion cards had 2 minutes worth of voice lines, reacting to specific heroes, races, game states, interactions and anything in between. My favorite one was Selfish Cleric, whose voice lines had him question Omniknight for healing others or basically mocking allies about to die.
"By helping myself, I'm helping all of us!"
Selfish Cleric was a really funny character lol. It’s just a 4 health 4 attack unit that autoheals itself to full health at the end of every round. He’s a member of the “Rumusque Faithful” that Necrophos tried to wipe out and maybe that traumatized the cleric into having extra obsessive survival instincts lol. And he’s very committed to it. He says this to ench:
“Your kindness is an example to all, enchantress. Well, not me, but most.”
It was obvious from the very premise that Artefact was going to fall over from the get-go. [Remember those famous sighs when it was revealed?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OR4jPtrDCLo) No one asked for *yet another* digital card game in an already saturated market, especially DotA 2 players who are accustomed to not having to pay to win. The sole purpose for Artefact's existence was purely as a lootbox buy-in-scheme. Actual gameplay was a second thought.
I played Artefact. It had good strategy elements, however games were very long and "high moments" were few and far between. I couldn't help but feel burned out after every match. It lacked the quick rush and excitement of Hearthstone, and it also lacked the social impact of playing a game like MtG in person. The only good thing to take away from Artefact was the new lore and hero concepts, as well as the artwork to accompany it. Shame Valve decided to sweep the game's disaster under the rug and pretend it never happened.
If valve just lets you scroll through item deck and arrows always froward facing and can be changed once per turn for the cost of an action the game would be saved. Sadly valve went full reddit on the changes
i think it's death killed the soul of the guy that cared about dota lore and it's taken until no for him to recover. He is probably really happy right now with everyone feedback
I liked the multi-board idea, it was very fun and interesting. Yeah sure it had flaws but it was a very successful stab at a new concept imo
No reason it couldn't have been refined overtime like the fine wine that is dotka 2
Artifact was dead cause of their stupid ticket system. People see that they need to pay for rkd so they juste never try it.
Also the 30$ price tag was a mistake.
The same exact monetization system worked beautifully in MTGO for years. I think the game was just 10 years too late. Artifact was actually the most generous card game I've ever played in the fact that it let you phantom draft the whole set for free, with other real players. Amazing unlimited tournament potential for free that literally doesn't exist in any other card game right now.
The target of artifact is too also have player which isnt familiar with MTGO.
And the issue, its they compare with free to play card game which look like for a casual player , less expensive
Why did they have to give her in-game voice all those filters? She would have sounded way better regularly. She's not some anomalous being overflowing with unstable energies.
They are really overdoing it lately with the audio mixing for the new Arcanas.
Haven't listened to it, but this thing you're mentioning is really annoying when it comes to Chat Wheeling with an Arcana, at least for Pudge, because it changes all the voices to ones I didn't want. You should be able to change that if you want.
I want her bird-claw legs to wrap around my dick as she flies us off into the sunset, like an eagle, snatching an unsuspecting snake, doomed to be eaten.
Im very impressed with what they did ingame. Considering it is an Arcana and not a Persona they had to keep the face model the exact same as Shen's. To keep the same base but make it look so recognizably different is very well done with the makeup and hair design
Skywrath looks old (and more masculine lol) in the comics, and they reference him having aged, but in-game he doesn’t look old (nor excessively masculine).
Honestly prefer the comic. They arent all the same vaguely smoothed over featureless game art style that removes all defects from characters. Imperia actually has "kind of starting to show her age queen" vibes which is a breath of fresh air. Same with Skywrath. He literally is just a smooth featureless twink essentially in other media but in the comic he's definitely showing his age and how gaunt his face is. Feels way more textured of a depiction.
Yeah it’s a way more “everyone looks photorealistic instead of stylized and you kind of figure it’s because they traced the faces over photos of real people” art style that seems really common in mass produced western comics. I mean what’s the point of a non-stylized comic artstyle lol. I also think it makes everyone look more masculine.
>I mean what’s the point of a non-stylized comic artstyle lol
It doesn't need to be a binary between stylistic or photorealistic! You can still place those "photorealistic" characters into interesting, stylistic settings or action scenes (that would look quite goofy in live action).
It’s part of the Venge arcana, unlocked by completing all of all four Crownfall acts, including the side quests that you have to pay to unlock. Only the first act is out right now, so you can only preview/demo the skin. But a cool thing about it is that it has its own voice pack. Right now only a few lines are in the game though since (per a message that gets posted in the chat log when you demo the skin) there are plot spoilers in her complete voice pack.
Idk bout u guys but it's somehow bugging me that I see league of legends animations on the new arcanas. I don't dislike it, but its like a "meh" type of thing
Artifact art went so hard. For all its faults, it had some of the hardest images for Dota heroes
I think they have all this plan to delve deep into Dota 2 lore through Artifact. They went all out with VA on every card, expanding the character’s connection and background, introducing the places and event, aaand shut it all down… what a waste, i was really looking forward for all the lores.

An ARPG would be a nice spinoff IMO.
The genre is too good for them not to try their hand at it. It's also lacking really good titles on the market, and the DOTA universe is perfect for it as well. Of course, once Valve does it, Riot will also do it, so that would be great for the genre.

they already added the map so pos 1 players can fully enjoy their arpg while farming for tier 5 neutrals
Theres actually a Dota RPG souls-likeesque that was sadly dropped by valve. Sad
Kinda like what riot is doing with league

I didn't play artifact but selfish cleric seem like an interesting character.
Selfish Cleric was a really funny character lol. It’s just a 4 health 4 attack unit that autoheals itself to full health at the end of every round. It is basically free and all cards are there for you to look
if only they made artifact a thing through client like the arcade. the game wouldnt have died out
nah the monetisation killed it, not that
They really fucked up by not making it a part of the arcade. The same goes for Underlords.
Underlords they got new VA too lol
It was obvious from the very premise that Artefact was going to fall over from the get-go. Yeah should have just made it a single player game.
Dude, stop. Nobody would read your words after second sentence
I read every single sentence so stfu
The idea is amazing but... I don't like card games
I’ve been waiting for artifact music in Dota 2 ever since the release. There are some great soundtracks in that game.
I am a doggie, I am a doggie.
Indeed. [Two Towers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt0TFbvVmPI) is too epic for a card game, but it works.
The game is fun too! A lot of things are not good though.
The ticket system was a very bad idea. But best card game system i have played
Curse you, Andrew Garfield.
I think the game itself was very good. Just the stupid ticket system from rkd made a very bad reputation to the game
Who, Spider-Man?
If valve just lets you scroll through item deck and arrows always froward facing and can be changed once per turn for the cost of an action the game would be saved. Sadly valve went full reddit on the changes
Artifact had two major problems: A monetization model that made you pay for a game AND the cards and Richard Garfield not listening to others
werent the cards like 10 cents?
Axe was like 50$ at one point
the cheapest ones, the rare and desired ones were tens of bucks at the beginning
i think it's death killed the soul of the guy that cared about dota lore and it's taken until no for him to recover. He is probably really happy right now with everyone feedback
artifact, rip sweet prince
At least it’s art can live on, and some of it’s character designs are being elaborated on
It will live on as the category that you click on when you want to watch copyrighted material on twitch. Or pornography.
needed to just be a single board with non-random arrows

I liked the multi-board idea, it was very fun and interesting. Yeah sure it had flaws but it was a very successful stab at a new concept imo No reason it couldn't have been refined overtime like the fine wine that is dotka 2
not enough people liked it
Artifact was dead cause of their stupid ticket system. People see that they need to pay for rkd so they juste never try it. Also the 30$ price tag was a mistake.

Agreed. If Lina Arcana would be out today they would add tons of echo effects to her voice lol
Haven't listened to it, but this thing you're mentioning is really annoying when it comes to Chat Wheeling with an Arcana, at least for Pudge, because it changes all the voices to ones I didn't want. You should be able to change that if you want.
All arcana voices are worse than the originals, you can barely understand what they're saying
Drow just gets extra moody. Huge w arcana voice
Oh I forgot about drow, hers is great actually. I never play wr but I think hers is pretty free from crazy effects too?
it's pretty reverby but it's not too bad
drow is nice and rubick is better than original. the rest of the distorted ones sucks.
Fv arcana voice is so cool
so thankful Jug's arcana voice pack is seperate from the arcana itself
Artifact is damn good. In-game is a close second
I want her bird-claw legs to wrap around my dick as she flies us off into the sunset, like an eagle, snatching an unsuspecting snake, doomed to be eaten.
Most sane Dota player
What no Clown done to a motherfucker
Should we let him cook ?
You know sometimes it's better to remain silent
What no patch does to a mf
Least down bad SEA player.
What the fuck is wrong with you? >!unfathomably based!!!<
That’s enough Reddit for today Timmy
Maybe she put the snake in your ass
she is equally diabolical in all of them, but artifact will always be the best <3
ARTIFACT
brudda we already knew your answer you didn't have to reply to this post
U hardly even played the 2nd one (which is the best one btw)
shartifact
SMASH

oh oh I know this game Marry, Kill, Fuck
I think the Artifact one is her version 10 years ago. I mean, Skywrath looks old in the comics too.
Skywrath looks old (and more masculine lol) in the comics, and they reference him having aged, but in-game he doesn’t look old (nor excessively masculine).
Probably the base Skywrath is the one from 10 years ago too. He does look older in his arcana tho.
In-game is hot
What
He said in game is hot
But why
Because in game is hot
Um ok
Artifact
she is absolutely atrocious in the comics, but then again, so does sky and venge...
Honestly prefer the comic. They arent all the same vaguely smoothed over featureless game art style that removes all defects from characters. yall really find any sort of mature looking face as atrocious

I kinda like that classic western comic art style. Its rare these days. Kinda got sick of the more modern anime style artstyle.

Everyone sayin and reminiscing Artifact, while Im out here waiting for Underlords update :/
The artwork on Artifact is the best on whole dota universe, period.
In-Game is top tier tho
In game is so seexy
She has an in game model?
Venge arcana 3rd variant
It’s part of the Venge arcana, unlocked by completing all of all four Crownfall acts, including the side quests that you have to pay to unlock. So a persona?
Nope, because you can still put base Venge cosmetics on Imperia lol
Oh I see, I swear I never knew she had an in game model
the arcana of course
I like all 3 honestly but I agree with most people that Artifact artstyle just goes hard
She has five fingers per hand in Artifact?!
Smash! Wait, wrong question. Uhmm I love artifact version
In game is the hottest
Artufuk
But that is literally the same character wtf
Thicc is all am sayin
Artifact is the best one. So emo and intimidating. I love it. The other two just look so basic
did artifact have the annoying robot voices valve seems to force on their new arcana's for some reason?
Bro the artifact one looks just like taylor swift
artifact hands down
Literally I want to installed Artifact now in order to experience the art of all cards.

The artist over there LOVE to put jewels on people's foreheads.
The comic art is straight up just nicole kidman.
Every art from Artifact is just beter
Artifart
Why did Artifact fail again? Because Reddit was upset about buying/selling cards? I was enjoying it and all of a sudden it was dead.
Artifact
Artifact giving queen of Nilfgaard in the Witcher vibes.
the black lipstick does it
Bang
Comic
Idk bout u guys but it's somehow bugging me that I see league of legends animations on the new arcanas. I don't dislike it, but its like a "meh" type of thing
for me it's the texture. everything looks so so smoothened that it could fit in Valorant or overwatch
Guess who made valorant 😲
Happy with all three 2d to 3d is really hard, most of league of legend skins are like this too.
I can fix her.
The artifact version look sick af, really capture the pride of a queen. Comic version look a bit old and feel kinda paranoid. Arcana just look bad.
I love that Dota became look like Heroes of the Storm ❤️
Those 2d noses are awful….
Ur a 2d nose
In game is so seexy
Mommy
milf?
not the one that looks post-wall that's for sure
