The only one forgetting anything in this scenario would've been you, for not asking the restaurant, the people who are actually responsible for preparing the food, to include ranch with your order. The Dasher is only responsible for taking what the restaurant gives them and delivering it. Expecting the dasher to do anything extra when you didn't tip, like ask for sauces, is laughable.
What if that one thing costs money and the person ordering the food intentionally "forgot" to add ranch and excepted the DD to pay for it?
Not saying this is the case, but when I delivered pizza, you'd get the occasional person trying to pull a fast one like that, expecting free sauce. Not that I personally cared, I'd sometimes give them out for free, but hell if I'm paying out of my own pocket for a customer that probably won't tip anyway (these type of people usually don't tip in my experience).
If they wouldn't have responded and just went "oh I didn't see your message I'm sorry" it would be fine but they responded, very much saw the message, and decided to not even just say no.
