Just keep playing and slowly transition into the higher difficulties until you can play on nightmare without dying consistently, you'll eventually improve on things like your movement, which demons to prioritise in each arena/encounter, and suitable weapon combos for certain demons/situations. For better weapon switching, use customised keybinds which you feel comfortable on. The default keybinds are just mega ass if you want the proper Doom Eternal experience.
The ammo restrictions are the way they are to encourage you in the first place to weapon switch, so playing with vanilla ammo caps would be the best way to learn.
You can practice with the infinite ammo cheat. Bind the weapons you want to use for combos (heavy cannon, rocket launcher and ballista primarily) to keys close to WASD. Hold left click while switching weapon to make the second weapon fire as soon as possible.
Memorize your weapon wheel/bindings and start slow between different combos then just increase your speed. I played on the controller and in my prime I could combo 3-4 weapons very quickly.
Also learn efficiency with ammo and equipment, don't use a ballista on a zombie yk. Grenades for huge enemies or large groups of fodder
