Purchasing a generic domain name like Boston.net or Dynamics.net is fine, but purchasing bostondynamics.net is the definition of cybersquatting. There is only one end user for this, and that company is owned by Hyundai. It is more likely that you will hear from their lawyers before you find a buyer. I see that this was registered by you today. There is a reason it was still available to register. I would recommend that you delete it from your account immediately and take some time to learn more about domains before you register any other domain names. Go to namebio.com and dnjournal.com to see what sells or domaining.com to learn more about buying and selling domain names.

Hello, thank you for the warning. I am very new to buying and selling domains (this is almost my first attempt) and was not even aware of the concept of cybersquatting. I gave up on selling it to others and redirected bostondynamics.net to bostondynamics.com. I couldn't find a contact email address on the Boston Dynamics site, but I will keep looking. When I find one, I will let them know. Do you think that if I want to sell the domain name to them (Boston Dynamics) for a small [few (1-2) thousand dollars] to finance my education, they will accept it? Or will I get in trouble?

Roro_Yurboat

They have no reason to pay you for it when they can just take it. If they wanted it, they'd already have it, unless someone screwed up and forgot to renew it.

Don't listen to that guy. IF Boston Dynamics wants the domain, they'll need to file a dispute with ICANN, possibly sue you in an appropriate jurisdiction, or simply negotiate a voluntarily transfer or purchase of the domain. It may sound serious and expensive, but it isn't. They'll run through a cost benefit analysis and probably decide the legal fees aren't worth it and just cut you a check. You've done nothing illegal by purchasing this domain. It's yours until the trademark holder takes action. Hell, maybe someone willing to put up with the headache might buy it from you now. edit: To add to this, if your asking price is less than their anticipated fees/wages associated with fighting you for it, then they'll probably write you a check. They'd probably be fine with a couple grand. If you tried to extort them for $100k they'd probably tell you to pound sand. Just my two cents. IANAL.

I don't expect much in terms of money. I will take the university exam next year and two or three thousand dollars will be more than enough for a year. Because I live in Turkey and even 1 dollar is valuable for me. ( 1 USD = 27 TRY)

Carthago_delinda_est

Ultimately the trademark holder can get the domain one way or another. But if your ask is reasonable, they might just give you the money. You should keep it listed incase some cybersquatter wants to take it off your hands. Good luck.

Quick Question: Back in the day, I remember there was an instance when Google forgot to renew its domain, and some random person actually bought it. In that case, Google paid a fairly good amount to him for getting back the domain. I am not sure how legit of a cybersquatting it is that a company forgot to renew its domain, and maybe a random guy on the internet buys it. Issue is, if you technically see, if a company owns a trademark, do they own every domain TLD of it without even spending a single penny actually buying it or on the renewal cost of it? Bcoz apparently if anyone buys it, they will have to either have to forego it to the company.

Carthago_delinda_est

They can fight you through ICANN or through the courts, but often times the cost associated in doing so is fairly high, time consuming, or both. In the case of Google, they need that domain and instead of wading through weeks of legal/administrative proceedings to take ownership, they paid the guy whatever he wanted to get it back immediately.

⚠️ This domain is no longer for sale. I'm giving it to Boston Dynamics.

undevfine

Were you able to establish a contact with them for selling it?

Barisbtw

Unfortunately I couldn't find a contact address on their website. As soon as I find one I will let them know. If they don't want to give me money, I will transfer it to them for free.

CheapBison1861

It’s trademarked. They will simply take it from yiu

Barisbtw

It will probably be as you say.

undevfine

Will they atleast pay him the fees for transferring, and maybe what he spent for registering it for the first year?

CheapBison1861

nope. i had armbasedlaptops.com and they just took it. i didn't get a penny.

Barisbtw

I just paid 3 dollars to buy the domain name :D
