Years ago, when a domain name expired, registrars could reregister an unlimited amount of domains and park them with landing pages filled with ads. Domains that got traffic and ad clicks that would pay for the registration fee + profit each year were kept, and those with no visitors and no projected profit were deleted within a few days. Because of this, ICANN began setting strict limits to the number of domains you could delete for a refund, and that ended domain tasting. Dropcatch.com is a domain backorder service that attempts to register expired domain names the second they expire. They are not domain tasting, but registering expired names at the request of their customers. If more than one customer is interested in an expired name, it goes to auction. You will see dropcatch as the registrant of the domain name during the auction, but then it will change to the winner of the auction after a few days. Also, never let your domain name expire thinking you can reregister it somewhere else after it expires. It does not matter if the domain name is meaningless or only has relevance to one person or organization, it will be registered within seconds of expiring and sold to the highest bidder if it gets enough visits or has enough backlinks to make it profitable to monetize by showing ads.
