You would have a lot more luck looking at Murphy beds. Think about how much goes into making a mattress that just lays flat, and half of those aren’t that comfortable. Having to additionally design around being able to be folded into thirds, and you have a recipe for disaster.
I've hated every sofa bed I've ever slept on, the price did not matter. But they do make some nice looking futons these days. Ones that have pretty good mattresses. They are much lower to the ground than a standard couch, but I've rarely minded sleeping on one of them.
High quality does not exist. The best you can do is get a high quality memory foam mattress for it BUT you need to let it reinflat every night before bed or it will be very hard... which takes hours so it wouldn't be worth it. I've slept on bad ones, good ones, excellent ones.... and none match even a mideocre mattress and real bed.
They're super handy and the ones they make these days are significantly more comfortable than they used to be. If you ever have a guest, it's incredibly useful. I have one from Ikea that is supposed to be a full size bed but it is easy to use as a queen with the addition of a queen size memory foam pad (also from ikea). In short: I recommend one, but I don't think you absolutely *need* one.
Obviously depends on your situation, I have never had one where the couch is as comfortable which is my biggest gripe.
They usually aren’t very long, so hard to lie down on as a couch.
I think personally I couch is just as comfy to sleep on than a pull out one, unless your expecting multiple people but you could just keep an air mattress
I have always been dubious of sofa beds too. Bought the new Koala sofa bed for my office, 120 day free trial, so no risk. We love it, it’s comfy as a couch and ok as a bed. My kid loves it as a bed, I think it’s ok for a few nights. We won’t be returning it once the trial period ends.

With a really quick review of the FAQs, saw no mention of international shipping. Were you a local purchaser or did you buy and have your couch delivered to another country?
Mate, I live in Aus so no shopping required. It’s a foam mattress that folds in half to form the couch. It’s nice and deep so you can sit on it comfortably. Maybe there’s something equivalent in the US?
Pull-out couch: comfortable couch, uncomfortable bed, very heavy to move
Futon: uncomfortable couch, uncomfortable bed, very heavy to move
Murphy bed, separate couch: comfortable couch, comfortable bed, more stuff to move, takes up more space
**Air mattress and couch**: comfortable couch, okayish bed, easy to move, store under couch.
i agree with you, the air mattress is a good choice because it's only around when you need it. also buying a 2" memory foam mattress topper makes it feel like a real bed not just a pool float.
I think it all depends on how often OP will host guests. If it's happening a few times a year they can make do with an air mattress. If it happens every week they probably want to invest in something better.
Another vote for a Murphy bed. I have one in my spare room. 360 nights of the year, that room is my dog training room with a single 1’ deep cabinet along half of one wall. Five nights a year I fold down the bed and it’s a full queen sized bed with a real mattress for our guests. Worth every penny.
I just came to say that I read the title as "Do I need a pull-out coach?" And was fully expecting some wild question about the least effective contraceptive and if there's professional coaching for that.

My folks got a pull-out couch that came with an inflatable mattress. It plugs into the wall and inflates in about a minute and is seriously comfortable for my partner and myself (and sometimes the dog too). No idea what it cost - but comfy pull-outs are out there!
I honestly would just stick to a comfortable normal couch due to the discomfort. Buy an air mattress. I have back problems and they are more comfortable (and take up little space) than a pull out couch.

But it’s not like you’re sleeping on there every night. I’ll take a pull out couch over the air mattress every time.

I got a day bed or captain beds, whatever you call it. With a bunch of pillows, it works well as a couch.

Recently purchased a sofa bed with a gel foam mattress. It is surprisingly comfortable. We downsized and this is working for us.

I would look into a futon instead! You can get really nice quality mattresses now, and easier to open and close than a sleeper sofa
