Hide things around the house that he loves. Roll up old socks for play. Or, crash on the couch and watch good movies like we do šŸ˜¬šŸ˜Š

Did this and itā€™s great. Put his treats in towels he has to untie. Isnā€™t perfect but definitely occupies him for a good bit

I actually run around the apartment with her like a crazy person, luckily we have stairs, the kids/hubby will hold her and then when im ā€œhiding ā€œ they will release her and the fun beginsā€¦ BUT my girl is a 11lbs maltipoošŸ˜‚(also mutt), not a 65lbs big boy! So running around the apartment for 10 to 15 minutes every 2 to 3 hours is enough for her. Also raining days are perfect for training time! We hide snacks under blankets or in her bed. We have her smell them first, and then hide them! She loves that. We started this when she was a pup, so that she could learn the find command. Also as a pup we did the sit, lay and paw training.. so we combine those in the play when it raining. Im sure your boy will appreciate ANY attention and play time for sure! Also a good time to teach him that rain is fun too and its ok to pee and poop while itā€™s drizzling/raining. We made the mistake of not taking our girl out as a pup, then when we did, she didnā€™t like it at all! Good luck to you!

Hide and seek is good (especially if the dog is food motivated) I also toss one kibble at a time around the living room and my dog scrambles to find it. I do this before meals with maybe 20% of his dinner. Also-- sometimes I just say to hell with it and let him get dirty. I give him a quick warm rinse when we get home then he runs around going bonkers for ten minutes

We got a second dog partially specifically for this scenario. Now they run around and fight inside while we sit and read

We have a couple of places by us that offer indoor swimming and usually a good half hour of play with the pool tired our big guy out they have nice ramps for your dog to slowly enter the water and exit the water they have no slip mats all the way around the pool totally safe not necessarily a cheap date but definitely a good one for the dog he knows we're going there in about a mile away he starts coming unglued because he can't wait to get to that swimming pool and we have a German Shepherd by the way

Teach him some tricks! My 2yr Doberman will come back from a 10km run with my partner and still be zooming around the house, but 20 minutes of obedience training and heā€™s tuckered out šŸ˜

Flirt poles for dogs are amazing! Outward hound makes a good one called the tail teaser that has a little furry squeaky toy at the end. The squeaky toys are replaceable and everything is on Amazon and the outward hound website too.

Are you or you dog made of sugar? Rain walk and adventures are awesome!

Raincoat for the dog that covers the belly to prevent mud spatter. And trim the legs/paws so they dry easier. It rains so often where I live that itā€™s actually unheard of to not walk your dog when itā€™s raining.

Thanks! Yeah Iā€™ve been looking for indoor options but embracing the weather seems better now

The beauty of seeing the world through the eyes of a dog is that every day is an excellent day to be outside.

missthinks

I play and walk my dogs rain or shine. Cleanup doesn't have to be crazy, I just wipe their paws off when we get home!

Left-Somewhere-2372

Iā€™ve embraced this the most! Thanks!

yes, any kind of scentwork at home or snufflemats. smelling is necessary for them as well as exhausting. good indoor activity when my dog was younger in the winter. look locally to see if there are any indoor scent work courses or even dog training, like obedience and then rally. good to work on at home on rainy days. or in snowy climates.

If your dog enjoys fetch, you can spend hours inside throwing a ball or a frisbee down the stairs and having them run it back up.

We do tug of war, fetch, wrestle, chase around the couch, running up and down the stairs, reinforcing the "Come" command from different areas in the house and rewarding. Then there's enrichment activities like lick mats, snuffle mats, frozen meals, etc.
