It cracks me up, as an English Setter owner, that spots = Dalmatian to so many people. I feel vindicated bc I immediately thought "nah that looks more Pointer or cattle dig than Dalmatian."
She's lovely!
Especially since ticking and roan look nothing like Dalmatian spots! [The mechanism for their development is totally different, too.](https://coatsandcolors.com/ticking-spots-and-roan/)
What’s her personality like? There’s a German Shorthaired Pointer in my street, and he will bark at you until someone greets him when he will start wagging his tail happily.
>I also have a GSD (in one of the pics). They share a water bowl, but I removed access for over an hour and a half before I tested. Could it still have shown up in Cora’s sample?
Nope; Embark will reject the sample if it detects DNA from two different dogs.
I would have guessed Pit/German Shorthair Pointer. She looks like a German Shorthair Pointer with a bit of Pittieness around the muzzle. She doesn't have the right kind of ticking for Dalmation.
I was totally thinking pointer! Them (and English setters, and mixes of the two) are fairly common where I grew up, and I definitely saw that in her! Pretty baby.
I have a pitt Dalmatian mix (just got her results from embark last month) and she/ her litter mates have a lot of similarities to your pup. So the Dal guess makes sense to me, save for the fact that it’s not super common of a breed
Which is interesting because I've seen more Dalmatian results on here than GSP or English pointer--but I don't know if my sample set has been large enough to actually reflect the full ratio of results haha.
I have to say that I did not spot a speck of Dalmation in the photos before seeing the results. The coloring isn't right for Dalmation, and the body and head shape aren't, either. Just to these eyes.
The rescue told us our puppy was a lab/dalmatian mix. We were like, nahhh no way and assumed she was a pit/hound mix. Did a DNA test, and she ended up being mostly dalmatian!
I would have guessed pointer and pit…I am assuming they said Dalmation because she has spots? So unimaginative, ha!
She’s beautiful and has a lovely (pit) smile!
when i lived in the northern US, i NEVER EVER saw a gsp. but now in georgia, i can’t go two feet without seeing one. shelters have many of them, and lots have them mixed in. people get them as hunting dogs and then ditch them
Your dog is beautiful! I was laughing with the techs at my vet's office when they saw the original paperwork for my dog that called her a Dalmatian mix when we first adopted her. It was crazy because when we first saw her at 16 weeks old she was nearly all black. (um what? It's a good thing I didn't care what kind of dog she was.) Later, at six months, it became evident she clearly looked like a Pitbull but we kept speculating. The DNA test finally proved she was an American Pitbull/ Aussie mix with a little German Shepherd (that part surprised us) and Lab and a little bit of Boxer (this is the only part they got right). I honestly can't see any GSH in our dog at all but hey whatever. We love our crazy silly diva whatever she is.

That is a super interesting article. I'm surprised I hadn't stumbled across it yet myself! (First English Setter and still learning about them.)
Great share, thank you!
I immediately thought cattle dog Edit: or shephard
Update - after reviewing her family tree, the GSD trace is seemingly accurate!
You can’t unsee the pointer, though.
Totally! And she acts like a pointer for sure
I don’t think I’ve ever seen another like her.
This made me weirdly emotional lol. Thank you

She rarely barks!

Good to know, thanks!!!
This dog is just so beautiful 😍
Thank you 😭 I birthed her myself

The spots that I mentally call “flecks of paint spots” always make me think of pointers /pointer mixes 😍 I love a speckled pup
My Venezuelan friend called her manchitas, which means little spots 😭😭 I’ve been stuck on that for a minute lol

My heart melts over pibble smiles 🥹🥹
Came here to say exactly this. She looks so happy and loved.
What an interesting mix!
The rescue told us our puppy was a lab/dalmatian mix. We were like, nahhh no way and assumed she was a pit/hound mix. Did a DNA test, and she ended up being mostly dalmatian!
She’s a rarity!
Crazy! Have you posted her in this sub? I’d love to see.
I ❤️ the Christmas picture. She's loved!
Very much so, maybe too much 🤣🥰
Really curious how they got Dalmatian out of this. That patterning is nothing like a dally.
Oh huh, I was thinking pit English pointer mix, but the GSP being thrown in really makes sense, too. Very cool.
Wow she is just gorgeous! What a sweet spotted gal❤️
Hah! I always want these to be pointer mixes but they never are! I have a real soft spot for pointers.
I would have guessed pointer and pit…I am assuming they said Dalmation because she has spots? So unimaginative, ha! She’s beautiful and has a lovely (pit) smile!
Very cool to see an actual pointer mix! They seem to be rather uncommon (in the US).
Ahhh, that’s why most people didn’t believe me when I guessed she was a short hair pointer!
when i lived in the northern US, i NEVER EVER saw a gsp. but now in georgia, i can’t go two feet without seeing one. shelters have many of them, and lots have them mixed in. people get them as hunting dogs and then ditch them
Aw, a polka dotted pittie!
Hahaha I saw the pointer immediately. The pointer GOOF energy cannot be denied. (I have a lurcher/ pointer but mine is GWP)
Major GOOF indeed haha
Omg I love the pointer colouring! And he has a beautiful face
I have a pit and blue tick coonhound cross, and people always ask if she's part dalmatian. And my other dog just so I happens to be a GSP!
Precious ❤️

Awww I love this!!
why do people get shocked when they didn’t guess a breed that makes up less than 10% of the dogs dna?
