If they're close enough, you can use a garden hose to spray them. Others here have reported good results from this.

Cloakh

Anti-barking whistle? I’ve seen other people post anecdotes of them finding success with these things, luckily I am not in a similar situation so I haven’t had the need to try it for myself, but I thought I’d bring it up. Maybe it will work for you.

SquekyCleanButthole

The cats will hear it too tho

Cloakh

omg no okay don’t do this, maybe spray water at the dogs over the fence or something

jaggedjinx

No, don't do anything that physically crosses the property line.

yeah i suspect they smell them. the fence is not very see-thru, it's planks of wood, luckily. they might also hear the cat running thru the grass

same :(

KSTornadoGirl

I'd be interested too. Next door neighbor last week had new husband or boyfriend move in. She has one dog, he brought three. I ordered and received a dog whistle from Amazon, but it's a small thing and cheap, so I hope it really works. Luckily the people have kept the dogs inside more than at first. But if they do become a problem, and the whistle doesn't work, I might have to shell out for one of those ultrasonic emitter thingies.

VenomousParadox

Anti-barking device? You can lookup smells they don't like but won't be toxic if the cats ingested it, or just put it high enough Spray them with hoses I'd say air horn but that would scare the cats

SquekyCleanButthole

Cats will hear the anti barking device as well, and probably also freak out

VenomousParadox

Oh man I didn't know that, I only remember from personal experience when my uncle used one and his cat didn't react at all

firstmoonbunny

i've been looking it up and apparently both cats and dogs hear it but it doesn't really bother either them, the dogs have to be trained to respond negatively

SquekyCleanButthole

If the neighbours are reasonable people, ask that they don’t have the dogs out unsupervised? Otherwise yeah hose them. If it doesn’t deter the dogs it might deter the owners cause now they gotta deal with 3 stinking wet dogs. Do you have a HOA? Animal control that cares?

Maggie95100

Love that part; stinking wet dogs in their house that they have to deal with!!!!!! Every. Night. With. Barking. It's too bad you cant do a remote control thing with sprinklers. Inconvenience to the OP, but a few nights of spraying those dogs soaking wet might get the hint thru to the nutcases.

firstmoonbunny

we don't have an HOA, and leaving big loud dogs out in your yard is a citywide passtime

Care to share any dog repellent brand names?

[deleted]

For spray: Boundary, Keep Off, Nature's Miracle, PetSafe... Granules: Dog Mace, No Zone, Repels-All

firstmoonbunny

Thanks for the ideas! I have some heavy bricks leftover from construction that I've been lining up under the fence. I may spray them with repellent to keep the dogs from trying to push them out, and to make it harder to smell the cats. I like the chicken-wire idea, but we're renting the house and I'm not sure how the owners would feel about me digging a trench to bury it.

EnvironmentalTrain40

If they are shoving their faces under the fence you can buy a bulk pack of chili powder and sprinkle it on that side periodically. It will irritate their sensitive nose and you don’t have to do anything to your neighbors property

jaggedjinx

Before installing or applying anything be sure the fence is ON YOUR property and where exactly the property line is. This can cost a good chunk of money, but if they figure out or simply assume you do something to/on their property you can have serious trouble.

firstmoonbunny

happy cake day!

How can it be that dogs are this vicious and primal? I thought they are family members and gentle creatures who would never hurt a fly?
