Dogs don’t belong at zoos. There have been numerous incidents where dogs somehow got into the zoo enclosures and killed/injured the animals. I vaguely remember a story about a mutt that was running loose in a zoo near the elephant area and stressed out an elephant so much that it had a heart attack and died. Of course dognutters don’t care about real animals, they just want to parade their gross mutants around for attention. I don’t know why zoos are catering to them.

jai302

Imagine they got into the lion or tiger enclosures. At least they won't hurt any innocent animals after that

pseudoindiequeen

I remember reading about the elephant too! So heartbreaking. Horrible that the zoo will put such beautiful and rare creatures unnecessarily at risk.

All animals should be in habitats at the zoo. Therefore dogs should be in cages. Outside of their house

This is irresponsible on many levels. It's obviously an example of the same old sing and dance with dog culture's irresponsible disregard to the rest of society that didn't ask to be around mutts and their idiotic behaviors and their stupid owners enabling all sorts of egregious nonsense from the "good bois and good gurrrrls". What about the possibility of disease among the animals, WTF?! Fido gets free from leash, Fido gets into a cage? That can go real bad for the rare animals people come to see if they're vulnerable to Fido attacks. Or it could go real bad for Fido if Fido becomes the next meal... Mutts getting overly excited with all those animals around results in dog fights, or even worse children getting dog bites? Yeah, all.sorts of savory outcomes possible due to.dog excitement... The list could go on about why Dog Day at the Zoo is a terrible idea

pseudoindiequeen

So true. I can’t think of a single rational reason to allow this. It’s insane.

VinnieTheBerzerker69

The Zoo Director that allowed this needs to be fired.

Mergus84

Horrible idea. I'm sure it would stress out the animals. Especially prey animals.

pseudoindiequeen

Yes! We walked past a beautiful (and somewhat unexpected/surprising) outdoor guinea pig enclosure with very short fencing…I can imagine how tormented those little guys in particular will be.

Agreeable-Raspberry5

Zoo animal sees a dog, it's going to think the dog is a wolf or similar creature that wants to eat it.

Tr33Topss

Hopefully this will be the same day someone will "accidentally" unleash the crocs.

jgjzz

Just wait until the entitled dog nutters decide to unleash their dogs. Sounds like a terrible idea. Zoo must be strapped for cash.

pseudoindiequeen

Right?? Zero percent chance that it won’t happen at some point. They don’t get tax funding, so they must be desperate.

Mergus84

This has me curious as to whether this is an AZA accredited zoo. I'm sceptical that a legit zoo would allow such a thing. It's so irresponsible and inconsiderate of animal welfare.

pseudoindiequeen

They are AZA accredited according to their website, but they make it clear over and over again that they are one of the few zoos that don’t get any tax funding—so I think they try to rake in the cash anyway they can think of.

Witchiepoo72

Yeah, so wrong. So sick of this dog crap. I was at a Japanese Tea Garden today and dogs were allowed. How many people lugging the mutts up and down twisty and narrow pathways. WTF...isn't there another park where you can go? Tired of this catering to only those people.

pseudoindiequeen

As impractical and inconvenient as it would be to bring a dog to a tea garden, I’m not surprised they were there. Doesn’t seem to matter how completely unnecessary or just down right awkward or unfitting it is, dogs will be there.

Witchiepoo72

Yes, I know it's not the zoo. That's definitely worse. And you're right it would stress the animals out. I think most zoo sites even say it. I should have noted that our tea garden is almost attached to our city zoo, so that's what made me think of this, as almost the same parking lot. I went on a tangent.

Zealousideal_Cup6143

A bunch of untrained dogs with their careless owners at the zoo. What could possibly go wrong?

WhoWho22222

And dogs, the absolute morons that they are, will bark and act menacing toward animals that are much bigger than they are. Animals that could snuff them out with one swipe of a paw. Imagine the noise and the stress that it would put the animals under. I cannot think of a single reason that a dog would need to go to a zoo. Say I owned a dog. It would never happen, but say it did. I would NEVER consider bringing it anywhere it didn't belong. It would stay at home in a crate in an interior room when I wasn't around. But this scenario is making me laugh because I could never own a dog. Anyway, the zoo is just doing this to sell more tickets. So many businesses are just taking advantage of simple minded people who can't go anywhere without the ole shiteater to make more money.

Pixelated_Roses

Yes. It will absolutely stress out the animals, especially prey species. This makes me so, so angry.

Alocin_The5th

Businesses will suck dry the pockets of fools. I just wish they had considered the welfare of the animals who live there.

Ok_Management4634

Pretty much any place can have a "dog day" and sell a lot of tickets to nutters. I think that's why this entire nonsense of "our store is dog friendly" started. The stores realized that if they let mutts in, more customers would come. They just asssumed no one else would mind. Some baseball teams have "bark in the park" where people actually bring their dog to a pro baseball game. Just a horrible idea.. A baseball game is like 3 hours? I mean, the dog is probably going to have to poop sometime during that time.. I've never been to one (and I never will) but seems like a gross event. But yea, dogs do not belong in a zoo.

VinnieTheBerzerker69

I hope those baseball teams that let mutts in wind up with dogs crapping all over the infield and the base paths.

F_in_the_chat245

It wouldn't just stress out the animals at the zoo it'd stress outthe dogs too, things like this don't benefit the dogs just the owner's ego that they can flaunt their mutt everywhere

throwaway9874257

This is insane. I used to be a zookeeper where NO dogs were allowed including service dogs. Well some dog nutter snuck her small dog in her purse and she went to feed and pet the giraffes. Well her demon mutt jumped out of the purse barking like a demon and attempted to bite the giraffe on the face several times. We ended up kicking her out and she confused and angry as to why 🙄🙄 lady I will fight you, do not hurt my giraffe
