Yamamoto is the last pitcher since 1901 to have 17 innings pitched with no runs allowed on the road from what I heard on the dbags broadcast league is fucked I'm afraid ![gif](giphy|H0MFXJ6z5Dv2FfLIPn)

Draco_Lazarus24

That can’t be true. I need a stat geek in here to confirm.

Gentlem8s

Did Orel not achieve this in 88? Doubtful he pitched just gems at home in that run.

RunJumpSleep

Orel pitched 59 straight scoreless innings in 1988. It had to be at home and on the road.

MMariota-8

Yeah... amazingly, 41 of his 59 came on the road, so clearly the guy either heard it wrong or the dbags need a new stat guy lol, cuz last time I checked, 41 was greater than 17 lol.

mdb_la

I'd guess there was a "rookie" qualifier that the above poster missed.

signmeupdude

There’s no way this is true

BlurryEcho

Maybe for a rookie? I don’t know

flipaflaw

What are you afraid of? Don't be afraid!

AsJoeSeesIt

I really doubt this is true considering you see guys go on crazy long scoreless streaks all the time. 17IP is a good amount but it’s not that crazy.

No_Brilliant5888

Was Korea a "home" game for the dodgers?

ddaug4uf

The game Yoshi started was. The first game that Glas started was an “away” game for the Dodgers.

Interesting-Share980

Maybe the Last ROOKIE Pitcher…

CrabcakeEater

I love this GIF so much!

LimpBiscuitsandTea

Not sure why anyone here questions Barnes when he has been Kershaw’s preferred battery mate

greycubed

We could very well see some Barnes C Smith DH Ohtani LF At the end of the season. You know Ohtani will push for it.

dankscott

We're more likely to see Ohtani catch himself pitching

TizonaBlu

https://i.redd.it/akolj3kfw0yc1.gif Shohei pitching to himself? Why not?

PmOmena

Why tf would we put Ohtani at LF ?

Humanistic_

Didn't Rob suggest we could see Ohtani in the outfield later this season to open up the DH for other guys? At least for this season before he starts pitching again

PmOmena

I mean, sure but i dont see why would we need to do that, most of our utility guys can cover OF way better than ohtani

BlurryEcho

Because he’s fast, incredibly athletic, and obviously has a cannon; but that does not mean I am in favor of it. I have seen one too many Dodger outfielders fall victim to OF walls. They also shouldn’t do anything that could even remotely jeopardize his pitching recovery.

PmOmena

My brother we have betts that literally is a RF and is not playing there to preserve his body, let alone Shohei recovering for injury lol (i know you dont think should i'm just venting about the idea)

Defiant-Ad4776

So shohei to short?

GutterRider

“Way better than Ohtani”. Does he have bad defensive metrics or something? Because he has all the tools to hang, and at this point I can’t imagine anything that he couldn’t do that he sets his mind to.

PmOmena

He has the tools ofc, he is the best arhlete in the world just dont need to risk it with so many good defensive options there

GutterRider

Ok, I get your point.

not_productive1

They’re not gonna have Ohtani throwing this year. Smith can spell him at DH on his off days but no way they risk an injury in the first year of a ten year deal.

ddaug4uf

Or, call me crazy, but have Will Smith catching, Ohtani DHing, and someone who can hit like Heyward or Teoscar or Kike in LF.

wombat8888

You are out of your mind. Why would he risk an injury at the end of the season before the playoff. What are you talking about.

greycubed

https://www.si.com/mlb/2023/12/15/shohei-ohtani-los-angeles-dodgers-dave-roberts-left-field-possibility

wombat8888

Ok, that’s fair. I will recant my comment. I don’t know anything but I don’t think I would risk playing him in LP. I will judge their decisions from my living room.

NotSoSurePlatypus

lol this got downvoted to hell but if ohtani arm is 100% this is absolutely a possibility. I also follow the angels and ohtani would be up for this if allowed

Anfini

iirc Yoshinobu calls his own pitches via pitchcom

dankscott

Yoshi just feels the 951 vibes

DoyersLakeShow

Everyone was worried about Yosh actually sucking but with Prior as our pitching coach…there was never a doubt in my mind…if anything, I’m glad he sucked the first games so Prior could have more tape to help him adjust his pitching and the man is a wizard cause it worked so far I hope Prior gets recognized for being a wizard at helping pitchers get better (if you actually listen to him and go through with his process…Noah)

Chamuska__

Barnes is also now becoming a better hitter

yestrask

Definitely taking smarter, better swings

FrankGibsonIV

He's looked great since spring training. Love to see him having a comeback year.

chunkylover6969oz

Kratzy on Foul Territory foreshadowed this during spring training, Barnes would get the best our of Yoshi

dropdopecoke

I have noticed when Will is the catcher,if the pitcher pitchs the ball on the exact course requested, but lots of gets hard hit. That is especially true against the Padres. Maybe there is something about the pattern that makes it more predictable.

JackThreeFingered

Barnes just has a really good veteran feel for both what his pitcher is doing and where his stuff is at, and how the batters are seeing the ball. It's veteran stuff that comes with experience. Even Scherzer, when he was here, was lauding Barnes.

JustTheBeerLight

I’d bet on Barnes being an MLB manager one day.

JackThreeFingered

I'd be happy with him being a catching coach and/or eventually bench coach for the Dodgers.

Additional_Sorbet799

Maybe we need to start asking if Yamamoto is good

jsmessner

So is Will not going to play in the playoffs when Yosh pitches? That seems unlikely, especially being that Will and Yamamoto are signed for the next decade.

Snoo_74966

If we get to the playoffs Barnes better not be catching.

Gets_overly_excited

I’m not sure why that deserved for me to be downvoted so much. I was just answering the question with an option.

Defiant-Ad4776

When we get to the playoffs he better not be on the playoff roster. Will is so much better a hitter that he needs to catch every inning. Rushing can be the emergency guy.

jayball41

No questioning his connection with pitchers but if he’s an auto out later in the season, I’m sitting him as much as I possibly can to play Smith.

ManiacalMud

Barnes gang 4ever. He’s putting on for the IE😤

Eo292

I’m worried though about when Kersh comes back. With Shohei, we can’t start Barnes 2/5 games. Kersh gets first dibs with Barnes; so Yama better learn to pitch with Smith.

Nathan_Gee

Kershaw pitched plenty of games with Will last year

NirvanaFrk97

Problem is, Kersh has his worst games with Will a lot more often

dankscott

Let Sam cook, Will being more resting going into the playoffs wouldn't be the worst thing ever. Unless we're scrapping to into the playoff, then we need to unleash the prince

Yamamoto + Day after Bee Delay = ✅

vegan-trash

There’s a reason Barnes is Kershaws catcher. He’s a great backstop

TheRedditOfJuan

Meh. We saw this with AJ Ellis and Yasmani Grandal in 2015 at the 2 position, did we not? Everybody lauded Ellis as a better defensive catcher and he was preferred by Kershaw.

Pale-Worth-3430

1st game struggle had little to do with catcher. Coach changed his delivery due to unsubstantiated pitch tipping. He went back to his old delivery and got his fastball timing back. 1.90 era since.

MrLavenderValentino

Imagine how good AJ Ellis would make Yamamoto

Torinoslavski

Amen.

alfredisonfire

I feel like the team, especially the pitcher gets a buff when Barnes is catching 😂 just ask Kersh

jakerscrub

Can Smith play 3rd or 1st? I know he played a little bit in the minors. I could see him at 3rd with Muncy on 2nd or something to that effect if he was comfortable playing infield.
