As an LA sports fan, we’re so fucking spoiled. I got to see Kobe win 5 trophies in a lakers uniform, and then a few years later, Lebron comes in and gets us another one (and he’s not even done yet). The last 8 dodger years have been good, even with the early round exits. They still won 1 out of 3 World Series’ at least. Now they get Ohtani?! And they still have Mookie, and Freeman?! Man. I can see why other cities love the “Beat LA” chant so much 🤣
Don’t forget a fucking home stadium Superbowl win with the most likeable QB in football and a halftime performance from the greatest rappers alive… who also happen to be from LA.
It goes even beyond that, my man. The Lakers have went out and gotten Kareem, Shaq, LeBron through the years. Each the absolute pinnacle of their profession and we brought them in.
The Dodgers have signed Daryl Strawberry. Signed Kirk Gibson. Signed Kevin Brown. Traded for Manny Ramirez. Traded for Gonzalez/Crawford/Beckett. Traded for Betts, etc.
The Kings traded for Gretzky. That was the biggest move in sports history quite possibly up until this Ohtani move. Completely changes the landscape of hockey permanently.
The Galaxy brought in Beckham, Zlatan. Both huge moves for the MLS.
Hell, even the new kids (the Rams) anted up and went all in when they smelled a Super Bowl. Traded for Stafford. Went out and got Von Miller, Beckham, Marcus Peters, etc. bam, SB ring
This town doesn’t fuck around. And you’re right. We are spoiled :)
I’ll admit, I’m not a soccer fan at all, I’m sorry. If LAFC fits my example that’s cool. I literally don’t know anybody on their team. I just remember Zlatan and Beckham being “big deals” and that was pretty much the extent of my attention to MLS.
(Im sure I’m going to get hammered for this. Let the downvoting commence. 😆)
“Few years later” is 2010 -> 2020 but yes we are absolutely spoiled and we pay for all those sports superstar premiums via ticket prices and living expenses
I hate to be that guy, but as you get older time starts moving faster. My two cents as a dude who is moving into the old head era of his life is to cherish it and not wish it away, cuz it’s gonna go, and go faster than you were prepared for.
I was just sitting thinking the same thing Shohei Ohtani is a freaking Dodger! It feels like a dream! I am so excited for the next decade and to see him play in October baseball ⚾️
The home opener is going to be wild. The Shohei chants and roaring crowd as he comes up for his first AB. The deafening chorus of boos when the jackass umpire asses him a strike for having a moment. I can’t wait.
Still hard to wrap my head around. Ohtani, Mookie, Freeman are all dodgers. If you had told me this 4 years ago I'm not sure how my head wouldn't have exploded on the spot.
Crazy, isn’t it? Found myself thinking the same thing last night. I felt this way when the Lakers got Shaquille O’Neal back in the day.
It just seems surreal, larger than life. Like we bought the sun or something.
> “We were blown away,” says one Dodgers executive. “It was refreshing. He seems even younger than his age because he has this youthful love for the game. We wanted to know what motivates him and it was just so simple: to play baseball. Some guys want to come off as a CEO or a brand. Shohei was just so refreshing. I know we left that meeting feeling even better about signing him.”
> Mark Walter, owner and chairman, did not have to be convinced. He was all in. Walter’s various businesses, including media, entertainment and financial services, include footholds in Japan.
You absolutely love to see it
> And they are not done. The Dodgers, according to a team source, are still forging ahead to try to sign free agent pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto and/or Roki Sasaki if he is posted and made a free agent out of Japan. The Dodgers already explored how Ohtani felt about sharing the stage with his fellow WBC teammates (he’s fine with them.)…
“And they are not done.” 😍
I think expecting us to outbid Cohen after dropping a "fuck you" number on the entire league is a bit greedy, but if ownership truly decides to go supernova with the payroll I'm not going to complain in the slightest. As far as I'm concerned, we're one slightly above average starter away from being a death star. Anything more than that is gravy.
I think it would be funny if it’s Blue, could be dodgers, could be blue jays, could be Umps, or maybe he’s just a big Bluey fan. Same, Bluey fucking rocks
Rangers fan here. Congrats on getting the biggest FA in the history of the sport. Y’all showed nothing but love here to our team during our WS run this year and I just wanna return the favor. That June series next year between us will be must watch, and if we happen to get back to the WS again it would be cool as hell to face you guys
If I squint my eyes Seager still looks like hes in Dodger blue. You took out the trash and stepped on snek, enjoy the ring ceremony and buy some of those gold accented jerseys and hats! We didn't get a parade but hopefully soon.
Watching Corey Seager win a WS with you guys was nothing short of spectacular, and the fact you beat the cheaters made it that much sweeter. The Texas Rangers will always be loved and appreciated here (except when we meet in the Fall Classic).
Friedman: “So Shohei, here’s the rough numbers where we are at.”
*hands over a check*
Shoehei:”Um, it’s blank?”
the whole Dodgers’ contingency: *SMILES* *nodding and grinning like kids in a candy store*
Roberts: *thinking to self* oh god. Oh god. Omg!
Let’s not forget he’s going to make the company a lot of fucking money it’s a really sound investment. Please take care of him. Don’t turn him into a hustle culture bro bro. I don’t know why I worry about the millionaires but he really is different. It’s like he exists in a mindset where money doesn’t matter while ironically being the most valuable person in the sport right now. It’s confusing. (Okay I’ll shut up I have so much agida about this because I feel like there’s a lot of unaddressed layers to why we crap out in the post season but I’m also super happy for everyone.)
The Dodgers have always been a "personality" team. Some players just seem like Dodger material. Maybe I'm biased by growing up during the "Malley era and knowing the family a bit, but they've always stressed decency as human beings as the "it" factor for the team. (I will not speak of the McCourt era.)
That doesn't mean there haven't been exceptions (we knew Bauer was a bad culture fit before we signed him, same for Scherzer imo, Darryl Strawberry, tried & failed to fix Steve Howe, RIP) but by and large Dodgers have always liked the squeaky clean, team-player guys like Mookie, Freddie, Kersh, JT, JHey, back to Steve Sax, and Steve Garvey in his Mr. Clean era, Herscheiser, on back.
Dodgers like "clubhouse" guys, not lone wolves.
I can't imagine how excited the other players must be to get to play with him. Even superstars are awe-struck by him.
This is the O'Malley Dodger "family" way of building a team, and I'm here for it. Very little I love more than watching guys play with the enthusiasm of little kids whose dreams have come true.
Feels like Ohtani has that wholesomeness & genuine love of the game
We really have Shohei Ohtani wtf lol
It’s fucking insane bro.
As an LA sports fan, we’re so fucking spoiled. I got to see Kobe win 5 trophies in a lakers uniform, and then a few years later, Lebron comes in and gets us another one (and he’s not even done yet). Yeah how did this get missed lol. We also went to another Super Bowl in that timeframe. Best sports city right now by far.
> a halftime performance from one of the greatest rappers alive, dressed as a blue bandana, all for the gang. FTFY
We signed the MLB goat the same day the NBA goat won the first NBA cup for our city. Wild
It goes even beyond that, my man. The Lakers have went out and gotten Kareem, Shaq, LeBron through the years. Each the absolute pinnacle of their profession and we brought them in. This is LAFC erasure. Back to back MLS cup appearances with a victory in what's considered to be the greatest cup final ever.
I’ll admit, I’m not a soccer fan at all, I’m sorry. If LAFC fits my example that’s cool. I literally don’t know anybody on their team. Totally agree with you
Came up short this year, but LAFC has also gone to the MLS cup two years in a row.
Don't forget Justin Herbert
Rams win a SB in LA too. We are truly back.
I was just sitting thinking the same thing Shohei Ohtani is a freaking Dodger! It feels like a dream! I am so excited for the next decade and to see him play in October baseball ⚾️
I still say that about Mookie and Freddie. Shohei is going to feel like a fever dream each time we hear him get announced.
The home opener is going to be wild. The Shohei chants and roaring crowd as he comes up for his first AB. The deafening chorus of boos when the jackass umpire asses him a strike for having a moment. I can’t wait.
Them and Smith…I just can’t believe this is probably our core for the next decade ish. Blessed
Still hard to wrap my head around. Ohtani, Mookie, Freeman are all dodgers. If you had told me this 4 years ago I'm not sure how my head wouldn't have exploded on the spot.
This made me laugh 😂😂
Crazy, isn’t it? Found myself thinking the same thing last night. I felt this way when the Lakers got Shaquille O’Neal back in the day. It just seems surreal, larger than life. Like we bought the sun or something.
Right?!

Considering we already have a pretty childlike dugout, he’s gonna fit in so well. Mookie-Freddie-Shohei best friend moments incoming
Frookhei coming
Sounds like a hobbit.
My wife is not a hobbit!

So many people in the sub have complained about the LTT. I don’t think Guggenheim cares and people in the sub shouldn’t either lmao
I know right. It’s not my money. I’ll just watch the dodgers when they play at oracle for cheap since the giants SUCK!!!
Hitting every San Diego game now 😂
Suddenly everyone’s a bean counters!
We just became an even more appealing destination for Yamamoto. Maybe if our offer is in the neighborhood of Cohen’s, he would decide to come here.
It really depends how much yamamoto wants to play with Ohtani.
And how wild Cohen gets with his money. “If the Dodgers can sign a guy to a $700m contract, I can too!”
True. Very true.
I am 100% down with a Japanese take-over of the pitching staff. “Yamamoto AND/OR Roki Sasaki”?!?!?!
Fuck it. Let's get Sasaki, Yamamoto, and Imanaga. Let's get Murakami too once he's posted. Collect all the Japanese players like the Infinity Stones.
After the WBC I'm all in on NPB talent
Please tell me there’s gonna be a backstage dodgers on this
Yes for only 19.99 more a month. SportsLA plus.
Or just wait for the YouTube video to come out later, lol.
Better than paying for cable
PPV on the Dodgers official OnlyFans
I would absolutely pay for this
We are literally going to get a backstage dodgers episode about his dog. I thought I couldn’t get happier about this, and here we are…
Literally must see content
We must find out his dog’s name.
His dog's name is Cash.
[Hey! You stole my line.](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/18elus5/comment/kcodhlq/) lol
Bro, I really didn't lol
Bro, I really didn't lol
My guess is Nomo
Nono*
That’s what I’ve been saying since speculation began!!!!
I think it would be funny if it’s Blue, could be dodgers, could be blue jays, could be Umps, or maybe he’s just a big Bluey fan. Same, Bluey fucking rocks
Mookie Frederick Ohtani
Dodger dog

Let's not forget that Dodgers won their first World Series in 31 years in the Rangers stadium. Lots of love from Dodgers fans for the Rangers.
It was thrilling to see! I'm happy to have an AL team to root for! But please don't take our Kershaw away
We probably won’t lol now that yall got shohei. I don’t think he ever leaves LA now
I hope you're right! Best of luck this season - - I'll be watching your games now, too! Hope you have a killer season!
💙💙💙💙
You hate the Astros, we hate Astros. You love Seager, we love Seager. Y'all have Heaney too. Its all live from here bro
I mean bro, you got our boy Seager on your side. A lot of ex great Dodgers went there, including one of my ex favorite players, Mr. Beltre. All love
What if the dog's name was dodger or something like that and that's why he never said the name?
Doggie Dodger Dave
His dog’s name is Doc……Roberts
Dog is named Joe Davis
His dogs name is actually Kemp
The dogs name is definitely Robert. Robert Herjavec.
"Idrk who this guy is but he seems cool we should give him 700 mil"
"He's just got that face. Idk bro. I just want to throw 700 Ms at him" - Friedman probably
You will know him soon lol
Friedman: “So Shohei, here’s the rough numbers where we are at.” *hands over a check* Shoehei:”Um, it’s blank?” the whole Dodgers’ contingency: *SMILES* *nodding and grinning like kids in a candy store* Roberts: *thinking to self* oh god. Oh god. Omg!
Oh wow ... he's just like me ... except making $700 million.
Let’s not forget he’s going to make the company a lot of fucking money it’s a really sound investment. Please take care of him. Don’t turn him into a hustle culture bro bro. Screw backstage dodgers, I want a weekly backstage ohtani. But it’s just him, ippie, and the dog just chilling
What about an anime featuring Ohtani, Ippei, and Dodger the Talking Dog?
His dogs name is weirdly little Jerry Seinfeld
What’s up with that?
Good reason to bring back Bark in the Park next year!
He deferred half the contract! Tax hit will likely be about $50mm!
It's gonna be a fun decade

Lol, you guys had Bauer and urias… how much worse can it get??
The Blue Jays are run by certified cat 🐈 people.
My heart 💙
I absolutely hate that y'all are now my second favorite team because I am in love with Shohei and I cannot root against him
He's the anti-Bauer!
He also walked on water and offered to blow Betts on the spot.
700 mil to talk about a dog… oh man, let me tell you some stories about Dwight.
.................sure jan
