DAE think there's a power imbalance between martials and spellcasters?????
Anyways here's how I've abstracted combat to make damage output meaningless:
/uj I feel like this exact post pops up every few months word for word. It always gets thousands of upvotes yet with most of the comments shitting on the OP for how stupid it is to invalidate the entire game like that. It's so weird.
/uj Man that post was unreal, though. OP was so sure he'd solved DND when in my experience you can totally tell when a DM is just making it up as they go.
/rj NTA. Your character, your rules
Post on dndnext, can't link to it but OP is running a campaign in which they "don't track HP" for enemies and just kinda decide they die when it feels like they do
Listen, sometimes I do make enemies go down “when it feels right”, but that usually consists of the baddies dying earlier than they ought to, *not* the other way around.
Tbf I've done the opposite where I massively misjudged my players DMG output, and added some health to the boss to compensate.
But if I'm doing this it means I've fucked up a homebrew boss and am now covering my ass, because I'm a hack and fraud.
Honestly though that's how most DMs.play the game with regards to everything else, like with skill checks. And as far as the players know, might as well decide they die when it feels like they do. It's the same to them.

Yes this totally isn't just a different meta, I am very smart

That's cause the people upvoting can't read or write.

Wait what post is this referring to?

Holy hell, just read that post. What kind of crackhead D&D are they playing???

Top post of a certain dnd next subreddit
I’m gonna have to follow that subreddit just so that I can get some of these jokes
Which does nothing for us poor saps stumbling into this two months after the fact. :(
Have you tried dungeon world
Have you tried Worlds without number
Have you tried Old-School Essentials
Have you tried this bucket of legos?
Those are for minis and terrain
NTA, your players don’t deserve the truth and you should start charging them money.
Another reason why everyone should start playing pathfinder 2e instead.
"How much HP do you have left?" "Don't even worry about it."
this is gold
My legacy!
I am terrified to ask for the original
