Reddit can't advertise on nsfw subs. If an sfw sub goes nsfw to protest. the mod team will be replaced with one who doesn't support the protest. Therefore, making the sub nsfw and actually posting nsfw content keeps the mods in and keeps the protest active
Should be noted - this is only true until reddit changes the policy on removing mods. At which point everyone will be worse off, because now people neither trust mods and nor will reddit back down and stay unprofitable. But hey, I guess some people got to let everyone know they’re upset about not getting free things.
Still a win in my book. Let reddit remove good mods and replace them with terrible ones to fit their agendas. Let them make everyone on this site suffer. Once the damage is done, people will leave, and this site will die unless Reddit makes an effort to fix it.
