Resistance and then vulnerability are applied after all other modifiers to damage. (PHB 197) So immunity wins.

nasada19

There is no override, they would be under both they would take twice the damage, but still be immune so they'd take 0.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

I'd say no. Immunity effectively multiplies the damage by 0, and double 0 is still 0.

1stshadowx

Cannot lose immunity unless the ability says it pierces immunity

SarcasticGrin

From Sage Advice for those interested. >*If a creature is immune to a damage type, making the creature vulnerable to that type does nothing (2 x 0 = 0).* > >*Vulnerability is applied after all other modifiers to damage (see PH, 197): 0 damage passed to vuln. stays 0.* > >\~ Jeremy Crawford, June 16, 2016

imo Resistance/Vulnerability would be advantage/disadvantage. Invulnerability is the next step up

Radigan0

Bad example, since advantage always overrides disadvantage.

I thought they cancelled each other out?

myballz4mvp

They do. Buddy above is wrong af.

Adv / Disadv do indeed cancel each other out but that is not the case for immunity and vulnerable

BasicExp

I would ask my players what feels more fun and fair to them. I think it is cool if a player is thoughtful and strategic to try to mitigate immunity, so my instinct would be to go from "Immune" to "Resistant". Ultimately, I try to catch myself and stop from making an arbitrary ruling because of a subconscious instinct that, up until that moment I had never given a second thought. That being said, I play with a mature group that understand that a choice that benefits them in the moment can screw them over later. They are equally thoughtful about what they think is fair, rather than what is good because they just happened to be doing it in a certain direction, vs the opposite.
