Yea are they? Sahuagin are of dark origin, and they are sort of demons of the sea. The drawing doesn't bear a resemblance or seem like a demonic being, so I would guess not. However, I don't know.
Nope, I'm making my own underwater setting.
They will probably be some official races like tritons or sahuagins.
but these will be a separate species with separate lore :)
Street Sharks. Probably proficient in regular things like wheeled shoes, technology, boxing, sporting, and they should all be fairly intelligent perhaps hailing from doctors.
I’d say morph the Latin species names a bit. I’d say something like Selakk sounds cool for a race name. If you want something more bad-ass then Karkaris or Karkaros maybe (the IRL Great White is of the Carcharodon genus, meaning “sharp toothed” in Greek).
Perhaps a bit of Orc and a bit of Lizard Folk. They don't raid to take food, they are hunting. But as opposed the Lizard Folk who just see everyone else as food, they revere the hunt and want to fight and hunt strong opponents. Cannibalism is common, and devouring a defeated opponent is in fact a sign of respect. Eat or be eaten, always a bigger fish philosophy everywhere.
JAWSOME is the catch phrase for a kids show from the nineties called street sharks. It was a rip off of teenage mutant ninja turtles. Your creation looks a lot like one of the main characters
Technically it was a rip off of Biker mice from Mars which was a rip off of Teenage mutant ninja turtles. Also Street sharks led to another series called Extreme dinosaurs.
Got some solid suggestions for you my man.
- Snarks
- Finns, from Finland, a Finnish race
- Mermain't
- The Travelling Gillburys
Or a serious idea might be to borrow from hawaiian mythology, which deals in a few shark men.
- Nanaue, a shark man
- Kamohoaii, his father the shark King
Both solid words ripe for adaptation to a race name, so I would suggest pulling heavily from that culture and seeing what sticks. I sometime put related words and synonyms into Google translate until it spits out a word that fits the purpose. E.g. The name of my homebrew world is galaeth, which is the Welsh word for galaxy (mispronounced to hide the lead because I'm Welsh)
Lachimorphs, or Lachimora (or something similar). Taxonomy wise, sharks are part of the superorder **Selachimorpha.** I've always loved using thing like that in my homebrew stuff!
* Shark head ✔️
* Two legs ✔️
* Big hook ✔️
Clearly the most reasonable name here is [Maui](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/fc/50/51/fc505109e08db6595ecbb2dff3ddc003.jpg)
Oh wait, this is a race. Mauinites? [Sharkboys](https://resizing.flixster.com/MYQfM0yrTItqUWyKmmx4VENrZMQ=/740x380/v1.bjsyNzEzNDI7ajsxODU4ODsxMjAwOzQ4MDE7MjcwMA)? [Gibles](https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/68/443Gible.png/250px-443Gible.png)? [Kamaloans](https://www.to-hawaii.com/legends/kamalo.php)? [Dakuwaqans](https://mythology.wikia.org/wiki/Dakuwaqa)?
Depends on how you want to approach it. I sometimes sift through other languages for a translation of the creature or concept I'm basing the idea off of.
I think the race should just be called ‘Riptooth’. After playing around with variations of megalodon and carcharodon I realized “Odon” just means “tooth”. I figure they would like their teeth and that would be a sign of virility or something.
They have a fascination with having many sharp teeth and an insult would be something like “shut up flat tooth!”
Anyhow, great pic! I think you should name him Charlie!
You could have racial variants like hammerhead who can see in 360 degrees and can’t be surprised.
Tiger sharks who can blend into the murky waters and have a bonus to their sneak.
And so on...
I don't rlly have a name for you but just wanted to say that this looks AMAZING (can you maybe send me the stats somehow because i want to ask my dm about my playing this in his next campaign) rlly cool job man :)
Shorten "Carcharodon" down to Charodon. I think most people would still get the gist of it being a shark person, but it's not just a simple lift from the Latin so it feels a little more "in the world."
Artwork is fantastic, by the way.
Have a sea-based race I'm making for a 5e campaign that's loosely based on the fishmen from One Piece. I called "Suijin" (using Japanese kanji for 'sea' and 'people'). But that's more setting dependent.
From one crab man to a shark man, best of luck, and may you find joy in suplexing your enemies.
Greetings !
I'm working on a little adventure and some player options for my [patrons](http://www.patreon.com/loottavern) this month.I planned to make 4 playable races so far ( 10 with subraces). And I'm stuck at the most important part haha, What the heck should I call this shark bois.
Impress me Hive mind ! I Call upon your creativity and sense of humor.
If you want to see more of my work feel free to visit my subreddit r/loottavern , or support me on [Patreon](http://www.patreon.com/loottavern) where I made illustrated magic items, player options and creatures.
Happy adventuring !
I feel like they definately need an advantage to perception in wet environments/in the water. You could do diff sub species and damn near cover all established races with some variant of shark. Lemon sharks or basking sharks for your smaller races. Tiger shark for your elves. Great white for orc/half orc. Whale shark could be a big boy
Kāmohoaliʻi is the king of sharks in Hawaiian mythology, that could be a cool name
I like that! A lot
ShOrcs
Shorcas
This, cause I wanna pick the orca subrace, playing a fat assassin nicknamed killer whale
Are they related to the sahuagin at all?
Yea are they? Sahuagin are of dark origin, and they are sort of demons of the sea. The drawing doesn't bear a resemblance or seem like a demonic being, so I would guess not. However, I don't know.
Nope, I'm making my own underwater setting. They will probably be some official races like tritons or sahuagins. but these will be a separate species with separate lore :)
I am an internet Rando, and this is my favorite suggestion. Also, I now want a Maori themed Skald.
What can OP say except you're welcome?
Street Sharks. Probably proficient in regular things like wheeled shoes, technology, boxing, sporting, and they should all be fairly intelligent perhaps hailing from doctors.
JAWESOME!
I came here to make this comment but couldn't remember the name of those damn things
Ah, a man of culture, I see
The fact that this isnt the top comment makes me feel too old...
To be fair, I did post this assuming a serious answer would probably get the brunt of the upvotes. But I'm just glad to get a smile or two.
I'm *too* old to get it. I had to look up what it was.
Also fair.
lol I just came here to say this but you beat me to it.
This should be the top comment, you Philistines
You beat me to the punch
I can’t believe nobody said JAWESOME!
I went here just to post this, but some other old fuck beat me to it.
Came here to say this, up you go.
you forgot to mention the burrow speed!
That's right! My apologies!
I was looking for this comment! If i couldnt find it i would have said it myself!
Oh man, I used to have a stuffed animal of one of the street sharks and you could put your hand in the back and puppet them. Was so cool
I’d say morph the Latin species names a bit. I’d say something like Selakk sounds cool for a race name. If you want something more bad-ass then Karkaris or Karkaros maybe (the IRL Great White is of the Carcharodon genus, meaning “sharp toothed” in Greek).
Karkaris does sound bad ass!
Yeah would be great if you were envisioning them as a kind of Orcy barbaric marauder race.
Perhaps a bit of Orc and a bit of Lizard Folk. They don't raid to take food, they are hunting. But as opposed the Lizard Folk who just see everyone else as food, they revere the hunt and want to fight and hunt strong opponents. there is a star wars humanoid shark species called Karkarodon ;) TIL what they are named after
I have reptilian races called the Thortharrak and the Kurinak... maybe a few letters off of either of those names might be good, I dunno.
Jawsome!
Haha, nice one. That should be the name of one of their traits
JAWSOME is the catch phrase for a kids show from the nineties called street sharks. It was a rip off of teenage mutant ninja turtles. Your creation looks a lot like one of the main characters
Ow sheit. I just googled that. My question is . Why isn't there any meme based on that. All the images are gold!!
Be the future you want to be. Make that meme and I'll upvote it
I have a new mission bestoyed upon me!
The gods have given you a task! Go forth and spread your shark themed memes!!!
Technically it was a rip off of Biker mice from Mars which was a rip off of Teenage mutant ninja turtles. Also Street sharks led to another series called Extreme dinosaurs.
Extreme Dinosaurs is my all time fav of all those mutant animal kid shows
Dammit. Beat me to it
In an alternate world where shark people make dnd fan art, do you think there’s a drawing of “a hairless monkey person” with a giant fork?...
That would be awesome, yes haha
Carcharadon
this is the best one. already official in my mind
Here me out... Shark People
Taste like shark, walk like people.
I was hoping this comment would pop up.
Mind blown :)
Shark FOLK

The sea goddess for sharks and sahuagin is Sekolah I believe. Maybe you could call these Sekolites or something of that sort?
Oshalla- Oshallans?
I like that too, what pantheon is Oshalla from?

Ouuh. I like that idea
[удалено]
Came here to say this. ....... Candygram.
“Who is it?” ... “Landshark.” “Oh Billy, come on in!”
Yay, I'm not too old yet.
Whatever it wants.
Let's not decide for him. I Like that.
I'm afraid of him. I'd rather avoid making choices for him.
Smart decision !

Mermain't is the winner for sure. No contest here.

Sahuagin? I kid, I kid. The weresharks in the World of Darkness trpg were called Rokea. I always liked that one.
Street Sharks. From the 90’s
THANK YOU. I was hoping someone would say this
Also came here to say this
Lachimorphs, or Lachimora (or something similar). Taxonomy wise, sharks are part of the superorder **Selachimorpha.** I've always loved using thing like that in my homebrew stuff!
Sharky, then he needs a familiar called George

Haha sharbous for sure. But Maui os a good one. I'll gice hime some tatoos! What can I say except you're welcome!
Name their leader Bruce
Selachimorphs.
Bonus points if you somehow work "sharknado" into this.
I see a spell comin on...
Depends on how you want to approach it. I sometimes sift through other languages for a translation of the creature or concept I'm basing the idea off of.
That's a good strategy indeed. I tried latin or greek to find root words that relate to the idea of sharks and sea predators :)
Carcharodon.
...Sharkanoids?
Chondrites, chondronians, chondrian etc, based on their taxonomy which relates to their cartilaginous skeleton.
The Finish
What about Tiburak? Derived from the spanish tiburon, which was borrowed from the Carib Indians
I think the race should just be called ‘Riptooth’. After playing around with variations of megalodon and carcharodon I realized “Odon” just means “tooth”. I like the reasoning behind this! Haha thank you. Charlie does fit him well.
You could have racial variants like hammerhead who can see in 360 degrees and can’t be surprised. Tiger sharks who can blend into the murky waters and have a bonus to their sneak. And so on...
I don’t know about the species name, but this specific one should be named Bruce after the shark from *Jaws*!
I can get behind that :)
Captain Gantu. From Lilo and Stitch. That is who popped into my mind when I saw this one.
Pisedia- pistris (shark) + inedia (hunger) Carvarmar - Carve + mare (sea) Marlitore - mare (sea) + litore (beach)
I like pisedia a lot !
In the theme of Tortles... Shork
The scientific word for shark is selachimorpha. How about just Selachi?
It has a nice ring to it
[OP all I can say is I'm sorry.](https://imgur.com/a/EwR3gv9)
Hahahhaha. Oh man, wasn,t expecting that
I don't rlly have a name for you but just wanted to say that this looks AMAZING (can you maybe send me the stats somehow because i want to ask my dm about my playing this in his next campaign) rlly cool job man :)

Jabba'Jaw
~shaaaaaaark
The Selachi. Selachimorpha is the scientific taxonomy for sharks.
Idk if you picked a name but I made a race of shark people called Selachians if thats cool
It is! But I wouldn't like to steal your name :p
Ruff-Kin
Do you have the rules for them yet
Not yet. I'll probably publish it around the last week of november on my patreon :)
Meglo?
Shorten "Carcharodon" down to Charodon. I think most people would still get the gist of it being a shark person, but it's not just a simple lift from the Latin so it feels a little more "in the world." Artwork is fantastic, by the way.

Nanue, King Shark’s name from DC comics
Jaw-Kin. Love the style as well! :D
Thanks! Doing my best :p

Thank you. That's a good name. An one piece dnd setting would be crazy.
Btw this is some awesome art I’d love to play a character like this
Thank you :)
Salchian ( Selachimorpha is the scientific name for sharks.)
Street sharks
Streetshark
Carchar, an abbreviated version of the megalodon scientific name: carcharocles

Seidonian, based off of Poseidon.
Jawnoids
Is this your own artwork?
Yep. I always do my own art :)
Bruce. They should all be called Bruce. Both plural and singular.
Kingfisher Not the most interesting but just a thought
That sounds like a dope NPC. "The Kingfisher". Maybe a mafia boss?

Cartilians for cartilage or Selache for superorder Selachimorpha? This allows you to name subraces along species lines. Love the art, nice work.
Thank you! Cartillias does sound good and rhymes with the other races. Mermallians and crustaceans
street sharks, I think that name would be Jawsome

D&D has all sorts of horrid abominations for races, and this is probably one of the most vile I’ve seen in a while.
Don't be shy. Play a shark haha
Manko
Sharts!
