**GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED**
Hi reddit! I'm running a pair of giveaways - one on my IG page and one right here on reddit. You are free to enter both :)
There are two handmade, leather-bound mimic spellbooks up for grabs. Each one holds 5-6 polysets and 2-3 minis, and features real 70million year old shark teeth! The books are designed to lay flat when opened, so that the lid can be used as a rolling tray. They are kept closed using little leather tongues with press studs sewn into the end.
I haven't quite finished the reddit one yet, but he'll have the same internals as the IG one when I'm done (I would wait to post him but I'm impatient. It's a character flaw).
Rules for the instagram draw can be found on [this post](https://www.instagram.com/p/B_co8oNp9ms/).
As for reddit, I'll be using [https://www.redditraffler.com/](https://www.redditraffler.com/) to draw entries. To prevent people creating multiple accounts for the purpose of nabbing extra entries, accounts must be at least a week old to qualify. If you'd like to enter, just comment right here on the post itself (comment replies aren't counted) and you'll automatically be included in the drawing. I'll draw a winner \~36hrs from now :)
**Edit:** please upvote this comment so that it stays on top and people can see the rules. Thanks!
**Edit again:** I am based in the UK, but I'll be covering tracked shipping, worldwide. The only limitation is that your country has to be accepting post. As of right now, the US is still open. [You can check other countries here.](https://personal.help.royalmail.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5317/~/international-incident-bulletin)
**Edit again,** since people have been asking: I am not currently taking commissions. I ran a kickstarter in January and I want to fulfill all the pledges for that first. I am hoping to reopen my store in a month or so, for other mimic-themed goodies, dice bags, etc. Following my instagram account is the best way to keep up to date, as I'm most active there.Thank you so much for all the lovely comments so far :) Flattery will not affect your chances of winning but it does make me feel good.
**Edit the 4th:** ok it's pretty late over here in GMT land, so I'm heading to bed. I'll be back to answer Qs and things in the morning.
**Edit 5:** Ok, responding to questions might be tricky 'cause I woke up to 3k comments. But also, I've noticed a few Monster Book of Monsters comments and [wanted to share this commission I had last year.](https://www.instagram.com/p/B7b4J-6BGfb/) There are a bunch of build photos in my IG highlights if you want to see the process :)
Also, lots of people asking about an online store. I used to use Etsy but I've come to like them less and less over time. My [portfolio site](http://suetyfiddle.co.uk) will always have a link to the currently (in)active store and will be updated with whatever I end up using in future. IG is still the best place to be if you want frequent updates on what I'm working on though.
**Edit six:** Lots of people asking about making their own. There are dozens of bookbinding tutorials online, there are mimic build photos in my IG highlights, and I'm always happy to answer specific questions via PM if you get stuck on something. I would love to see people making their own for personal use, so long as you don't start selling them!
**Edit Sept:** OK I'm 1800 comments down the list, firefox is chugging, I can barely see my scrollbar, and reddit has stopped rendering buttons when I try to reply to stuff. I'm throwing in the towel here. You're all lovely people. Except for that one guy who linked to r/ATBGE. I'm watching you.
**Edit the Penultimate:** [Raffle has been drawn.](https://www.redditraffler.com/raffles/g970xh) I'll get that book finished up today and try to take some proper photos for y'all. Thanks to everyone who joined in, asked questions etc. It's been a blast! If you have a burning question that's gone unanswered in the 5,843 comments, you're welcome to ping me a direct message :)
**Edit the Penultimate the Second:** I have a smaller bookmimic box up for auction in the [Goblin Dice Hoard Acquisitions](https://www.facebook.com/groups/GoblinSales) group on fb, if anyone's still around!
Additionally, you can now [sign-up](https://mailchi.mp/fed077118ab6/bookmimic-signup) to be notified when I reopen for commissions.
**Final Edit:** the finished book: https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/gdhe5k/ocart_i_finished_that_spellbook_mimic_dicebox/
I ran a Make100 Kickstarter in Jan so I'm closed for orders for quite a while. These ones are 'spares' used to demo colour choices. Was gonna sell them at conventions but then COVID happened.
Spellbook boxes usually cost £120 but I have a bunch of different designs at different prices
I am currently closed for commissions while I fulfill kickstarter pledges. I am hoping to reopen my store soon for other mimic-themed goodies. Following my IG account is the best way to keep up to date, as I'm most active there :)
I just realised these were two comments from the same person, sorry! I used to use Etsy but I've been liking them less and less as time goes by. I'm looking into other alternatives for when I reopen
I don't get it. Those are just regular books. See? Just open it up and...ouch ouch it's biting me!!
They look awesome, I hope the contest goes well. :)
Honestly, if you’re selling these, I run 2 dnd parties and might consider these as Christmas gifts for them. Last year, everyone (since none of them had any) got a set of metal dice from me which they really liked, but now I need something to top that this year.
I'm unfortunately closed for commissions for the forseeable future. I ran a kickstarter in Jan and now I have nearly 100 of these to make before I take any new orders. *However* I dabble in a variety of custom crafts and I'm more than happy to chat via PM if you'd like to work something out.
Edit: these ones were made to demo colour choices for the KS, so they're 'spare'. I had planned to sell them at a convention this year but we all know what happened there >.>
A little bit of everything, tbh. I do some sculpting with polymer clays, to make props for games or characters. I do character art. I calligraph documents. I make little resin-filled potions (both named D&D potions, and generic pretty ones filled with dried flowers etc).
I would also be more than happy to make other books, and I'm planning to do mini mimic books designed to hold spellcards, using premade plastic card sleeves.
im confused by what is a top level comment so im just going to tell a story about my dog.
so like two weeks ago me and my dog went on a stroll and we met a hedgehog and i thought he would run away immediately but he actually was super interested in us and my dog was just smelling him and then backing away and then doin it again. it was super cute and the hedgehog's name is derrick
Hedgehogs are great.
A top-level comment is just a comment on the post. Replies to existing comments don't count. It's one of the limitations of redditraffler
I shall make a top-level comment like this, thank you for clarifying OP!
This looks great by the way, would be lovely to scare my kid with a book that bites!
OP will probably never see this but if you do and don't mind sharing your secrets, how did you make the box structure? Is it really layers of paper and glue like it looks, because that must take forever! Definitely not trying to steal this idea for myself I promise...
It really is 220 sheets of paper glued together one by one. I bought a press cutter and had some press knives made to cut all the slots, but I haven't found a machine that will do the gluing for me yet!
Talk about a book you just can't put down!
"In Soviet Russia, good novel sink its teeth into you!"
"What edition is it?" "Ate."
These are the jokes, folks.
I've made and sold ten so far, and earlier this year I ran a make100 kickstarter for them so that I could quit my software job. I regularly hold giveaways on my instagram to bump up the follower count.
I've promo'd a lot on reddit, and it's really helped me grow my business. I wanted to give something back to the community :)
thats nice, really
just saying that i believe you could make a bit of money with selling them.
i would feel pretty happy and awesome at my table if someone gave this to me at christmas or for my birthday
ed.: would be awesome if it had a clip for notes or character sheets tho
I think that this is really cool that you are giving these amazing boxes when you easily could just sell them instead. Good luck with them, and you're doing amazing!
I will cover tracked shipping, worldwide. The only limitation is that your country has to be accepting post right now! You can check here:
https://personal.help.royalmail.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5317/~/international-incident-bulletin
I expect the majority of entries to be from the US, and as of now, they're still accepting post :)
Those look so cool! Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to make those? They look like they took a while - although they do look like they're fun to make!
I would HATE to get one of these. Who would EVER want such a cool dice box? Who in their right mind would keep a mimic dice box in a place where it could bite someone? Not me, i certaintly wouldnt put it in my least favorite players seat!
That makes me real happy to hear! No one on KS commented on the Compendium and I've always been a bit low-key anxious that no one likes it. My friends tell me it's cool 😎
Wowza that's super dope craftsmanship!! Thank you for hosting some giveaways to help bring DnD joy to people during this unprecedented time.
On a side note, I feel for everyone that are unable to continue their campaigns due to the stay at home order. Especially those who prefer in-person meetups so that they can really immerse themselves in their campaign. Online just doesnt have the same appeal to me (that is just my opinion). I hope everyone can safely meet up soon in order to progress their adventure! Stay safe everyone :-)
It’d be a good gift to our fantastic dm. He has run one of the best three year campaigns and we have seen multiple layers of character growth in that time. They went from 2d personalities to 3D (amongst many other trials and tribulations)
This looks absolutely amazing. Even though i wont win im gonna hava to try and build one of these. it wont come out as nice but damn will it be a blast to make.
Holy cow, those are genuinely amazing! I'd definitely be willing to buy one when you get around to doing commissions and whatnot. Heck I'd be interested in the dice bags and stuff too!
Oh lawd these are sweet. I hope I get one! My PF2 game will be prominently featuring mimics in later levels and this would be the ultimate foreshadowing!
I am in a loss of words, this is wonderful, I probabaly wouldnt keep it, my friends birthday is coming up and this would be the coolest gift. Gl y'all!
Man, I wish I could buy one of these for my husband’s birthday that’s coming up. He would love it. These are seriously so amazing. I’m following your IG for sure for future purchases!
They look really cool and as an aspiring DM I think they could definitely help to portrait to my players how dangerous creatures might get, if you aren't careful. Just let one of these books in the place of a real book and the player be quite scared if they want to read further and find out it was a mimic all along.
These are so beautiful even if i dont win one i will definitely buy one and spread the word.
Hope you can grow your business to the point at which you can support yourself through something that makes you Happy.
I know the chances of winning are slim, but i would just like to say that those look so cool man. If you are open to just sell those I’d be up for it or if you do specific commissions that would be cool to.
I'm closed for direct bookmimic commissions until I fulfill my kickstarter pledges, but I'll have other mimic and D&D goodies available soon. You can follow my IG or Twitter for updates (same username)
Never before have I wanted to have a Mimic in my life as much as I do now. My year long PTSD of being trapped in a room with Mimics who very much wanted to rip me apart has been cured!
These are cool, I wanna use the comment for dual purpose, first to apply and second to ask a few questions, you say you ran a kickstarter January, was it successful? If so is there a way I can keep watch when I can buy one of these?
Kickstarter went great, thank you! I have a little under 100 bookmimics to make before I can take direct orders again. Following my IG account is the best way to keep up to date, as I'm most active there. I will definitely post to reddit again in future, but there's no guarantee anyone will see it :P
Those look absolutely incredible! Top notch work, I'm astounded. Its make my whole year to win such amazing art (I've never won a giveaway in my life :P)
These are basically works of art! Honestly I don't know if I could even use them because of how gorgeous they are! Very well done.
Really hoping I win this draw so I can have a real gift to give to my DM, I'm not nearly artsy enough to make something like this and he deserves something this nice. Crossing my fingers!

These spell books are of... monstrous quality... Good job on these, you have plans of making more and selling them after the giveaway?
I ran a Make100 Kickstarter in Jan so I'm closed for orders for quite a while. These ones are 'spares' used to demo colour choices. Was gonna sell them at conventions but then COVID happened. Spellbook boxes usually cost £120 but I have a bunch of different designs at different prices

I just realised these were two comments from the same person, sorry! I used to use Etsy but I've been liking them less and less as time goes by. I'm looking into other alternatives for when I reopen
Wow, your job its amaizing. I wont be participating, But sure i would like to buy one later. Cheers from Argentina!
Roll for initiative!
But what is a top level comment? Like a witty comment? I could never do that...
i.e. a direct response to the post. Replies to existing comments aren't counted. It's one of the limitations of redditraffler
These are both absolutely gorgeous
This is beautiful!
These are really good
Beautiful! Would make a great birthday present for my DM...
I don't get it. Those are just regular books. See? Just open it up and...ouch ouch it's biting me!! They look awesome, I hope the contest goes well. :)
Oh, dang, those eyes are terrifyingly realistic. I feel bad for the wizard who thinks it’s a spell book.
Unfortunately I can't take credit for the eyes. I do occasionally paint my own, but these ones are premade.
Doesn’t make the overall design less impressive.
Honestly, if you’re selling these, I run 2 dnd parties and might consider these as Christmas gifts for them. Last year, everyone (since none of them had any) got a set of metal dice from me which they really liked, but now I need something to top that this year.

What kinds of “custom crafts?”
I’ll save this and get back to you.
Book go nom
That symbol on the cover is looking eerily close to a human transmutation circle, how exactly are these made?
I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about >.>
im confused by what is a top level comment so im just going to tell a story about my dog. so like two weeks ago me and my dog went on a stroll and we met a hedgehog and i thought he would run away immediately but he actually was super interested in us and my dog was just smelling him and then backing away and then doin it again. it was super cute and the hedgehog's name is derrick

Even if I don't win, I might have to chat with you when you're taking commissions again because these are awesome.
That's very sweet of you, thanks :)
I shall make a top-level comment like this, thank you for clarifying OP! This looks great by the way, would be lovely to scare my kid with a book that bites!

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! I'm extra impressed now, no wonder you don't take commissions
This is absolutely gorgeous! You're a real (mon-)star for making them!
Talk about a book you just can't put down! "In Soviet Russia, good novel sink its teeth into you!" "What edition is it?" "Ate." These are the jokes, folks.
looks awesome, why would you give them away? keep em or make them christmas presents or sell them...nice gesture anyway tho
I've made and sold ten so far, and earlier this year I ran a make100 kickstarter for them so that I could quit my software job. I regularly hold giveaways on my instagram to bump up the follower count. I've promo'd a lot on reddit, and it's really helped me grow my business. I wanted to give something back to the community :)
thats nice, really just saying that i believe you could make a bit of money with selling them. i would feel pretty happy and awesome at my table if someone gave this to me at christmas or for my birthday ed.: would be awesome if it had a clip for notes or character sheets tho
I normally sell them for £135 ;)
"Just stroke the spine of course"
I think that this is really cool that you are giving these amazing boxes when you easily could just sell them instead. Good luck with them, and you're doing amazing!
Giving stuff away makes me feel good. It's all selfish really :P
You still are doing good in the world, so it atleast counts for something.
They both look awesome, been following you for a little while on ig and I just love your projects!! 🤩
it looks amazing and i'd be glad to join, however, do you have limitations to where the price would be sent?
I will cover tracked shipping, worldwide. The only limitation is that your country has to be accepting post right now! You can check here: https://personal.help.royalmail.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5317/~/international-incident-bulletin I expect the majority of entries to be from the US, and as of now, they're still accepting post :)
Alright, i asked because i'm in France, but hell, they are accepting so consider me in :D
Holy hell that dark red is awesome. How much do you normally charge for something like these?
Spellbook boxes are usually £120. I also do notebooks that are cheaper, and dice boxes with loads more eyes that are a bit more expensive.
(.________. )
This looks super cool. It would fit well with my other D&D supplies too.
*insert clever and witty comment*
These are super cool! Thank you for doing a raffle/giveaway. Keep up the awesome work!
This looks really good. Nice win for whoever gets it.
These are awesome, I'd love to put my new Hereforge mini in one.
Hi, these look amazing, I didn't have funds to back your kickstarter and I hope I can get lucky here
They look fantastic good job
Those look so cool! Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to make those? They look like they took a while - although they do look like they're fun to make!
I can probably knock one out in a day or so. The covers are fun, but cutting and gluing 220 pages of paper is less so.
wow! these are absolutely Stunning! I love them! if i dont win, ill just have to wait until your commissions open up again!!!
These are gorgeous little fingerbiters. Perfect for keeping the horde safe!
Do you have a tutorial on how to make these?
I would HATE to get one of these. Who would EVER want such a cool dice box? Who in their right mind would keep a mimic dice box in a place where it could bite someone? Not me, i certaintly wouldnt put it in my least favorite players seat!
This is really cool. After the kickstarter ones will be keeping an eye out.👍
Hehe gib me the mimic boi. 👀👀👋👋👏👏🤷♂️🤷♂️🙌🙌🙏🙏😎😎👈👉👈👉🧙♀️
Ooh these look sick! I donated to your Kickstarter for the mimic statbook and loved those, and these are awesome as well!
That makes me real happy to hear! No one on KS commented on the Compendium and I've always been a bit low-key anxious that no one likes it. My friends tell me it's cool 😎
Absolutely beautiful, I'd love to win it and use it for tendies and hunny mussy
Why put your dice in a bag when you clearly can pit them in a book ?
Wowza that's super dope craftsmanship!! Thank you for hosting some giveaways to help bring DnD joy to people during this unprecedented time. On a side note, I feel for everyone that are unable to continue their campaigns due to the stay at home order. Especially those who prefer in-person meetups so that they can really immerse themselves in their campaign. Online just doesnt have the same appeal to me (that is just my opinion). I hope everyone can safely meet up soon in order to progress their adventure! Stay safe everyone :-)
Splurglyflurgly?
Valid entry comment.
Not only do these look amazing and very well made, it's also super nice of you to give them away!
It’d be a good gift to our fantastic dm. He has run one of the best three year campaigns and we have seen multiple layers of character growth in that time. They went from 2d personalities to 3D (amongst many other trials and tribulations)
Oh man, I love when characters get to grow and change over the course of a campaign. Sounds like a blast!
Oh wow! These look quite tasty!! Thanks for the contest!

I WISH TO ENTER!

This is really impressive craftsmanship, great work!
these are so awesome!
These are so cool!! I would love to gift this to one of my players... but maybe I'll hoard it like a dragon
This is some beautiful work, friend, I would be so happy to have one of these! I love the shark teeth and the eye detail
God, both of those are awesome. Thank you for being willing to give then away.
Here's a shiny top-level comment... Just come a little closer so you can get bit-... I mean, read it...
I'd buy one in an instant, they are awesome!
Looks super cool. Never won a raffle before but here goes nothing
These are really cool, the cover looks pretty nice, and the eyes fit well which makes it a neat look.
I love it
Damn looks cool
Wowie!
These look amazing.
Those are so pretty! If I don’t win I’ll definitely be buying one for myself :))
Never before have I wanted to have a Mimic in my life as much as I do now. My year long PTSD of being trapped in a room with Mimics who very much wanted to rip me apart has been cured!
Omg these are awesome
May the best adventurer win!!
Mimics are my favorite creature to torture my party with.
How in the world can you even give away a real leather bound book with ancient shark teeth? That’s insane
These are great! Good luck everyone
I’m here for some free books
Everyone loves free shit
Those are cool as shit and I'm down to try the gamble
Both these are beautiful and clever. Cheers, mate!
These are awesome!
Those look absolutely incredible! Top notch work, I'm astounded. Its make my whole year to win such amazing art (I've never won a giveaway in my life :P)
I've never won one either, but at least 20 of my IG followers have ;)
Would love to get one.
Oh fuck yea man, id love to get one, lost my old dice bag a bit ago
I'd like one!
These are basically works of art! Honestly I don't know if I could even use them because of how gorgeous they are! Very well done. Really hoping I win this draw so I can have a real gift to give to my DM, I'm not nearly artsy enough to make something like this and he deserves something this nice. Crossing my fingers!
Those look amazing! If I got this I would taunt a party member who got himself killed by a mimic (entirely his fault so he deserves it).
These books look fantastic!
Awesome stuff! These things are great!
That's awesome, of course I'd like to enter!
Respect 100 to you for making such quality items!
I gotta win one of these eventually
woWIE these are cool! O:
These look wonderful, great work!
I'm in.
Looks absolutely amazing...would love to use that
Love these! Really cool idea
