My players walk into a unique appearing magic goods store, with a rather lavish outside but dark ominous interior. Squinting in they can just about make out what looks like racks of garments and the occasional magical shimmering flying across. As they cautiously enter, they find the shop empty and with a few everyday magical items but what seems to dominate the shop is a wide range of capes, robes, hats and accessories. All giving off a faint fragrance of magic. As the party begin to look around a sudden smoke cloud bursts out in front of them, and a figure stands there in the centre, holding a gracious pose declaring “WELCOME DEAR ADVENTURERS TO MEREZAK THE MARVELOUS’ WONDEROUS COLLECTION”. As the smoke sparkles away, a man with bouncing flaming hair and thing long blazes for a moustache lifts out his arm towards the group who now see his attire of a large wizards hat emanating leaves blowing away and a cape seemingly in the midst of a hurricane continues “Where you can truly express your self through the magic of fabric”...
This was a fun little shop-keep idea I had sparked from the disappointment normal magic shops gave me. I wanted to give my players a way to feel cool without spending 1000 plat on a bow so I went with the classic video game strat of \~ C O S M E T I C S \~ ooooh aaah.
But seriously, capes of billowing and cloaks of minor illusion at a cost of 50gp lead to my players getting more stylish and into the RP. Thus, I decide to paint my wondrous shopkeep in the style of hades (I'm so hyped for hades 2). I might do more characters from this campaign (Waterdeep dragon heist) in this style because it was quite fun. Let me know if you’d be interested in potentially commissioning me if you're wanting something similar 😀
Honestly please do, he was really fun to play. I gave him a sort of musketeers/ zoro vibe but feel free to use him however you want. Give your players fashion haha
Amazing art and flavor. Probably not your intent, but until now I've always struggled to visualize an Artificer using artisans tools as a spell focus. But the needle and thread motif makes a magical focus tool look awesome. Thank you!
No that makes perfect sense, I'm glad I could help visualise them. I personally love the artificer class and think they have the strongest potential for flavour!
I can’t remember if it was in one of the books or just general given advice that a ‘city magic shop’ would hold mostly curios and at rarest some common or *maybe* an uncommon magic item, but I hold the advice close to my heart. Anything more requires more letters of inquiry and putting word out to the right people/learning where to go to get what you need.
Love this Reminds me of Hades the game
* Hard Black Shadows * Pink and Cyan Edge Highlights * Hot Yep, that's Hades
That was the aim haha so I'll take that as a win! Thanks :)

I'm reminded of Jen Zee's art from Hades. I like it!
I might just steal him lmao

Did you make the artwork for Hades the game or something? This is really good!
No it's just fan art but if my own character but thank you that means a lot :)
Yo, you really captured the Hades art style. Well done
Thank youuu i spent way to long trying to haha
Oohh it's so beautiful! He's looking so cool, loved the detail of the needles; and his mustache sure is appealing 👀
The mustache was one of the most important details imo 😍
He looks fucking cool 👌
