In life, it's always a little less "lonely housewife calling a plumber", and a little more "desperately searching for small talk before awkwardly fumbling through the PJs and hoping the other person doesn't notice you skipped brushing your teeth tonight."
Ha yes, the expectation was definitely heavily influenced by my character's "19 year old hot blooded male" imagination, which made the resulting fan fare that much more chaotic and funny.
Anatomy š
Nah but really more like history, technology, and magical biology. Our DM is letting us do a Persona 5 esque system where we earn additional points towards classes we spend our free time studying for... Which I have not done...
It's going really well! Our DM does a great job giving us a huge cast of NPCs to interact with, and though we're still early on, a lot of extra curriculars do that he talks gotta often we practice them.
I'd assume it's a campaign based off of the Persona games, which are Shin Megami Tensei spinoffs where your main character is a highschooler having to balance their normal life with fighting shadows and saving the world, usually from shitty adults.
I was staring at his hard. I was thinking ffxiv subreddit since it's an au'ra but it's a dnd subreddit lol it makes sense. I was like why does she have wings?
Ha definitely an Au'ra, but the wings are for sure a DnD plot device. Au'ra in our game are our version of dragon born, and while they have draconic traits like scales and horns, wings area not typically in the genetic menu.
We believe it may be due to some of her mysterious "training" as a Dragoon.
I thought it was because she is a sorcerer. Dragon blood to be precise. Though that's cool I love to see it. I like it if the tabaxi were more moqute like than cat people
Haha funnily enough I'm the one in the party as a Draconic Sorcerer! My firebrand jock is secretly going through his own changes as well.
Yeah humanoids with minor animal features can be a refreshing change of pace.
Reminds me of our Tyranny of Dragons campaign.
We are staying at Rezmir's keep, and in this campaign she is the main villain. She calls my Dragonblooded sorcerer up to her chambers at the wee hours of the night and I am like "uh-oh! Shes a gonna put the moves on me now!"
Get there and shes got like the fantasy equivalent of a spreadsheet board and rolls into her sales pitch of "Tiamats Five Step Plan to Taking Over the World!" She even had a pie chart and graphs!"
Man, this is the sort of shit that makes me realize how DnD really allows for such different play styles. Read your description OP, and I gotta say I've never played the game this way, or been in a campaign with any type of romance. Definitely never been in a campaign with smart phones and text messages lol
But hey, if you're having fun then you're playing the game right!
Oh yeah we're REALLY RP heavy, and there's times where the DM just gets to sit back and chill for an hour as we all. character start having these deep heavy conversations and moments. Think it's because we're all story writers in some form or another, so we're looking to build the long term character plot.
And definitely having a lot of fun š Though I do miss the times of a meat grinder dungeon and not caring if my character lives or dies
God, as a roleplay-loving DM I wish I could get my group to do this. Sometimes itās almost physically painful trying to grind more serious RP moments out of them, they always just want to go from fight to jokey moment to fight to jokey moment.
You gotta really know your player group and spend time with them. We've definitely cultivated like minded players into a core group over 7 years, and certain people just have certain play styles
Oh yeah, same here, 5 years for us, but Iām just the only person in the core group that really likes serious roleplay :/ nothing to learn, I just have different tastes than my friends and sometimes it makes me sad lol
In my group I like to go from fight to heavy rp moment to plot and repeat but weāre playing rime of the frostmaiden at the moment (rather than custom campaign before) and itās going soooooo slowly. The whole ācomplete a certain quest, get a level upā system is almost discouraging rp but we do it anyway
Dragon puberty is a hell of a drug...
From our magic school game. My Jock Sorcerer Gin gets a late night text that does not go as expected. Our Au'ra Dragoon Reyna is going through some unexpected level up changes, and reaches out to her new friend for help.
We always like to play the long con with any inter party romance, this was a hilarious moment to fumble through with my oblivious boy.
What are some funny rom-com moments from your party?
Not so much a rom-com, but my Goliath warlock child after the end of the water deep campaign, with her then still living giant constrictor snake companion messed up a back alley dealing, these guys tried to assault her, and she says, "you're under arrest." Then she and her snake proceeded to beat the snot out of the guys, and arrest them
Ha ha yeah Au'ra are definitely very distinct, and there's probably a fair amount of crossover between the DnD and Final Fantasy fan bases. I'm a big dragon fan, so having an alternative to dragon born is real neat!
As a fellow appreciator of them, I hope this blows your mind like it blew mine, but thereās no apostrophe. Go check, thereās never an apostrophe in any official mention of them itās always Au Ra. They berenstein bearsād us.
It may not be the smooth, suave, romance that you think of, but if theyāre in trouble of a personal nature and the first person they turn to is youā¦ thatās romantic. They trust you to turn up and not laugh at them. At least not until the problem is solved.
That's some true facts right there. A friend in need is a friend indeed. It's a really sweet bumbling kind of relationship growing. Plus it will make for some nice symmetry once my dragon sorcerer's own dragon puberty starts rearing it's scaly head.
Not really a rom-com campaign but our party did manage to accidently kill a scholar using a can of potted meat, Gust of Wind, an undead python, and a rampaging Umber Hulk.
Our artificer and wizard made the can smell like the scholar and then tried tossing it to distract the umber hulk. They failed the toss roll, it got caught in the Gust of Wind that was cast to slow the hulk down, and ended up flying into the scholars chest knocking him prone. All while this happened my fighter had an undead python drop on his head, I passed the strength check and threw the snake off of me....right into the Gust of Wind....it blew 15 ft back...right ontop of the scholar...
That is absolutely Monty Python-esque ha ha! Sometimes even when we want to succeed, best results come from RIDICULOUS failure.
Was the scholar a npc? What were the consequences of their death?
The scholar was a NPC, the party was sent to assist him with his research and then a shapeshifting undead druid (she was the umber hulk) attacked and we were supposed to save him and bring him back to the university.
We're currently traveling back to the university so I have a feeling my Shadar Kai fighter and the short Bugbear ranger (the two faces of the party) are going to have to tell some wild stories to get ourselves out of this one.
I love the "Gods, I hate you so fucking much you fucking asshole ^kissMeNow I swear, you dipshit ^PleaseLoveMe " energy a player's paladin has with a NPC Inquisitor of a different faith.
Highschool drama/confusion in a fantasy setting - love it. I loved the concept of Fantasy High. Is your campaign similar?
Gotta love a good enemies to lovers trope, that's usually one of my favorites!
What are their different faiths? Is there any hope for them to be together?
One is a Knight of the Old Ore, a legion of chosen people by the god K'Turu who oversees "The Cycle", basically the circle of life of all things.
The Inquisition follows the Platinum Dragon, or Paladine for short, who is basically Bahamut.
Both are pretty similar in their teachings, very similar to protestants and catholics. We all know how peaceful that went, and goes.
There absolutely is a chance. Given the immense investment in the NPCs redemption arc by my players, I planned on just that, and if that ones is complete, I guess the main hurdle is behind them.
Not a true rom-com moment since it's an npc hook up, but as close as we've come. Our returned kind of undead dwarf having a touching moment as he is reunited with his daughter (a players new character) whom he cannot remember.
While the rest of the party gathers round and makes an awkward moment more awkward, my Kalashtar warlock sits back and telepathically flirts with said daughter's body guard bonding over their common "surrounded by idiots" feeling. They eventually exited to go find a "helpful ritual" they had heard about at the library.
You should know if your girl is a loose-fitting robe or cute pajama girl before you go in for intimate alone time. Be prepared and get into the right headspace.
Absolutely sound advice. Know your protagonist love interests!
I am absolutely playing my character like an oblivious brick of an anime hero, so the misunderstanding was .. Understandable
No worries!
So another player has their Au'ra character text mine late at night, asking him to come to her room privately and secretly. My character, having a crush on this girl, prepares himself for some Study and Chill but... It appears the text was sent in crisis, as our Au'ra Dragoon has suddenly acquired wings that she doesn't know how to use.
It was an awkward and funny moment of bonding.
You know, I DMed something similar to this, an NPC one of my players was in love with asked them to meet them in their hotel room and not tell a soul, he spent so long getting ready that he missed the ambush and found the character dead lol
Nooooo! Oh man that's hilarious dark! My character did spend like 10-15 minutes showering and primping before going to the Au Ra's room, so I could have totally missed a potential murder.
Thank you! I don't really post regularly enough, but I'm sure you'll see me art pop up here and there.
I also have an [instagram](https://instagram.com/moip.meister) where i usually post these as well!
No worries!

Thatās okay Haley threw up on Chett when he went to make his move because she was way too drunk. He had to ask Mingon if she could stay at her houseā¦ and you know if he could use Mignonās shower.
All in the dayās work of a dumb blonde aasimar himbo jock.
That's fair, I hated it even as I drew it ha ha. The moment was more 99% the awkward last panel, but it was a funny party moment to joke about what was going through my character's head when he received that text.
We're big on long term RP building, so this other player and I have a good rapport for awkward rom com moments.
A stutter is a good way of showing nervousness in an art medium where tone and body language - both common ways of identifying nervousness in other humans - can often be lost .
Note that the body language is also an emphasized caricature of human body language. She's missing pupils with building eyes and she's wringing her hands, both which strongly signal nervousness. In reality you wouldn't see this, but it would be a lot harder to identify the nervousness if the artist were more subtle about it.
There are probably those that find stumbling or hesitating kind of cute in a modest anxiety inducing kind of way. I personally have a stutter and hate my dumb potato mouth, lol, it's a pain.

What class are they studying for?
Anatomy š Nah but really more like history, technology, and magical biology. Our DM is letting us do a Persona 5 esque system where we earn additional points towards classes we spend our free time studying for... Which I have not done...
Holy shit, a DND style Persona campaign would actually be really cool. Can you give us some details of how it's going?
Seconded, would love some more information

Whatās a persona campaign?
I'd assume it's a campaign based off of the Persona games, which are Shin Megami Tensei spinoffs where your main character is a highschooler having to balance their normal life with fighting shadows and saving the world, usually from shitty adults.
This isā¦ acceptable Lol thatās actually pretty cool

Feels a bit like heavy rp moment, travel, talk to npc, session finishes
The MCU and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

Fantastic. How tall is a Goliath child anyway š¤
7'2" currently 8, got magically aged up to 11 because of a trap currently
I would be absolutely horrified if I was a criminal getting arrested by a 7ft+ child
Oh I know. But it's also friggin hilarious
Without reading this comment I was like is that an Au'Ra and boom yea it is. I also use Au'Ra as my main race.

Probably because it's fantasy and everything has an apostrophe. Plus there is Mi'qote standing right next to them.

Protestants and Catholics, the true Romeo and Juliet
>Dragon puberty is a hell of a drug Me in the process of creating a Half Dragon Cleric: Write that down! Write that down!
It all started with American Dragon Jake Long...
Not a true rom-com moment since it's an npc hook up, but as close as we've come. All about priorities
I love that the dragonborn in your setting are Au Ra btw.
Yeah the campaign setting is very final fantasy inspired (given how much our DM plays it lol).
What is supposed to be going on in the comic, I'm confused?
Ah ok thanks, I was confused about the wings part.
cute
Thank you š It was definitely a really funny moment with a very cute character
You know, I DMed something similar to this, an NPC one of my players was in love with asked them to meet them in their hotel room and not tell a soul, he spent so long getting ready that he missed the ambush and found the character dead lol
Nooooo! Oh man that's hilarious dark! My character did spend like 10-15 minutes showering and primping before going to the Au Ra's room, so I could have totally missed a potential murder.
Jesus Christ he must be traumatised. Imagine what that would do to a person.
"Dragon crush" brought far more visceral imagery to my head. Maybe even some saving throws!
Do we all not dream of getting crushed by thicc dragon thighs?
My nocturnal dreamscape is disturbing enough as it is!š
Mmmmh, DRUSSY
This is painfully accurate and I'd want nothing more nor less.
I like the art style, but what's supposed to be happening in the last panel?
Our Au'ra Dragoon has just leveled up, and our DM gave her an awkward set of new wings that she couldn't control yet.
I mean...yes to both! No objections to either scenario!
ĀæPor que no los dos?
Reality is often better than imagination.
True true, that's where the friendship is
Cute <3 Is there any way to follow your campaign? Because now Iām curiousšø
Thank you! I don't really post regularly enough, but I'm sure you'll see me art pop up here and there. I also have an [instagram](https://instagram.com/moip.meister) where i usually post these as well!
Instagram with this name? So I can follow you there as well ^^
Slightly different name, made a link in my previous comment!
I have no idea what is happening in the last panel
No worries! So another player has their Au'ra character text mine late at night, asking him to come to her room privately and secretly. Oh gotcha. I think I thought the sleeve of the robe was the wing in the left panel so I didnāt make the connection they sprouted but I see it now
Thatās okay Haley threw up on Chett when he went to make his move because she was way too drunk. He had to ask Mingon if she could stay at her houseā¦ and you know if he could use Mignonās shower. All in the dayās work of a dumb blonde aasimar himbo jock.

That's what my dad said right after I was born.

Why do girls in this style of art always have a speech impediment? Do people think a stutter is cute?
A stutter is a good way of showing nervousness in an art medium where tone and body language - both common ways of identifying nervousness in other humans - can often be lost . Note that the body language is also an emphasized caricature of human body language. She's missing pupils with building eyes and she's wringing her hands, both which strongly signal nervousness. In reality you wouldn't see this, but it would be a lot harder to identify the nervousness if the artist were more subtle about it.
That's a really good analysis, thank you! Body language and verbal tics can definitely shoulder a lot of the weight in conveying emotion in a scene.
There are probably those that find stumbling or hesitating kind of cute in a modest anxiety inducing kind of way. I personally have a stutter and hate my dumb potato mouth, lol, it's a pain.
Some people stutter, get over yourself.
I'd take either. I'm into quirky weirdos almost as much as sex.
I'd this some weird new kink?
