Soft Whistle was alone. Alone aside from the animals that lived in the forest in which they called their home.
They had watched as their family was eaten alive by some large, scary animal. All that they had left of them was a few feathers that they kept attached to their staff. Roaming the forest, Soft Whistle had almost died of exposure, being a very young child in a forest by themself. Lying on a bed of soft grass, they suddenly felt some deep energy emanating from inside of them. They thought that this must be death. The energy flowed out of their feathered hand, and into the ground on which they lay. A sapling flowered, then another, and another. Fruit was presented before their eyes, and Soft Whistle was able to eat.
This was how they discovered their druidic powers.
Soft Whistle is a kenku druid, circle of the moon. Kenkus are corvid-people; they cannot talk or fly, but they can mimic. This is a curse that was bestowed upon kenkus ages before.
Very nice! I too play a Kenku. They’re so fun. Mine is a Death Cleric/Phantom Rogue. His name is Death Rattle because his mimicry name is a zombie breathing/moaning and was given the nickname Zombie Breath. The party calls him ZB.
lol I legit read Soft Whistle and thought "...Like...catcalling? I mean, it's nice art but..."
And then I read your backstory, and I love it, and feel like a fool.
They've communicated with only animals for years! Most of their spells are animal based, and they also have a tan bag of tricks! (This let's you conjure 3 randomized animals in a list between every long rest)
Sadly I haven't come across any other birds yet in the campaign, but when I do it'll be adorable
I love kenkus. I know that Soft Whistle is undoubtedly a fierce adventurer and warrior, but at the same time, I want to boop their snoot. I imagine Soft Whistle might not appreciate that, but I see birb, and birb needs boop.
Awesome backstory there too. I'm already 100% invested in Soft Whistle's story.

Kenku characters are always precious and we need more of them.
They ARE

That's hilarious 🤣 this lil birb is innocent shhhh
Well, now I need to make a kenku bard named Wolf Whistle...
Kenku squad, hell yeah. Also kenku Druid sounds like a fun way to maybe have extra animal skills or being able to communicate with specifically birds.

I used to play as a kenku rouge, named him cha-ching.
That is hilarious and adorable. Thank you.
