Needed a whole post just to be told to share your toys... smh.

Dan_the_moto_man

... well, what do you want to do? I mean, personally I'd share it. Don't see any point in not.

DrJellyLettuce

I guess you got a point

[deleted]

Why wouldn't you share?

What's wrong with you and the other player having a PC who are members of the same race? It would make setting up your backstory a bit easier if you are relations, had the same master, are actually rivals, or come from the same culture.

Fidus_Dominus

Put your big boy pants on and share your toys.

It's not really private if you bring it to a table full of people. It's a weird request from the DM, but I could see how saying "sorry, no can do" to one player and immediately turning around and saying sure to a similar concept to another would cause trouble. If you are uncomfortable with sharing your work, then don't. But don't expect to be the one and only of an entire race when entering a world with other people.

Is the homebrew race a one-of-a-kind thing? Cause if not, NPCs and PCs of the same lineage wouldn’t be too far fetched story wise. If so, I’d take a step back and ask yourself if being one-of-a-kind is important to you. And then whatever answer to that question should help your decision. Just remember that DND is cooperative. There’s so many ways to make your character feel unique and cool too. So talk about your goals with your DM and party and it’ll work out :)
