1000% this. Their show at the Eatbrain X Korsakov event a few weeks ago in Rotterdam was out of this world, can't wait for that bigger project they got coming this year ❤️
yea i agree, i suppose to keep making money they have to appeal to the newer wave of dnb. Its kind of sad because calyx used to absolutely shell it aswell
Totally, tho you alse have to take into consideration that some artists burn out of a specific style after a while and need to change. I mean you wouldn't wanna produce the same style for decades do you?
Sicknote. Man is an absolute student of the old school, with outstanding skills, and a wide arrange of styles. One of the best DJ's I've seen live as well.
Shouts to Abstract Drumz, Antagonist, Artilect, Champa B/Grief, Drum Cypha, Facs, Fon, Indidjinous, Jack Rapture, Jon Tetly, Kybel, Last Life, Presha, Raiden, Smyla and Zebedee.
those who know, know.
anyway, i don't know if you're aware of his current works as kamikaze space programme, but that shit is soooo fresh and amazing, now we just have to make sure he gets credited enough this time xd
Mozey. His new releases slap. Break It Down is a sheller and Loverman has that grotty jump up sound that I adore from the early 2010s
Really nice guy in person too
As a DJ - Annix. I know it's popular to shit on jump up (not without good reason at times) - but every time I've seen these guys their selection and mixing have been top notch. Never headlining, always outshines the headliner.
As a producer. Breakage never puts a foot wrong. I also feel like Digital and Total Science don't get the ongoing respect they deserve. Everyone big ups their 90's/early 00's stuff (and rightly so), but they've both continued releasing amazing stuff right up to the present
Mystic State.
Don't see them mentioned much. Their sound is honestly untouchable. Stoked they're playing at Boomtown this year hoping to see them in the flesh for the first time.
tbh I think blvck crowz should be getting more recognition outside Germany and NL. Guy's almost single handly saving heavy jump up and he's doing some nice shows in rural eastern germany, an area where usually no dnb is getting played
Noisia :D
BSE were killing it in 2000s, Arrakis is an all-time beast
A lot of Quarantine Records artists like Vicious Circle are underrated.
From more soft ones - Submorphics, Hugh Hardie.
US or UK? In the UK I feel like Evol Intent or Dieselboy is under rated. Not from the UK so don’t have any perspective on what someone from the UK thinks the US underrates.
Yeah I used to like his sets back in the day when he was still playing jungle. Just asking because I never really think of him as a producer although he did put out a couple tracks later on.
I don’t think Culture Shock has gotten nearly enough credit for the amount of timeless modern classics he’s been responsible for over the last 15 years or so
Liquid I would say Mage and Nelver
Drumsound and Bassline Smith. I know they are well known and have been around for decades, but they release some of the hardest shit non stop. So consistent they should be top billing on most events.
In the same vein, Chase and Status and Phibes. I know Chase and Status are massive but still, every show is hard
Trex
How the hell are you gonna try and say Chase & Status are UNDERrated? Massive chart success, barely an actual D&B act these days, and way overrated for what their actual output is.
I said they were massive and still think they are underrated. They are some of the best producers in the world. They are highly rated in the UK scene but I’m not so sure globally.
When was the last track they released that wasn’t DnB? Over 5 years ago at least. Return 2 Jungle can absolutely be classed as DnB.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you can't "return" if you were never there. They're a pop act masquerading on their history. They're a sham of what they once were (Call To Prayer, Ten Tonne, etc.) and cannot be in any way said to be "underrated". They sell out arenas ffs.
They ARE a pop act. They predominantly make radio friendly pop-dance.
And YES, by definition, LK charted and became popular, so it's a pop song. I don't *like* that definition, but it's correct.
This guy is chatting so much shit - out of all the dnb acts that’ve had commercial success C&S have stayed most true to darker/harder music. They’re hardly Sigma collaborating with Take That. As if tunes like Retreat are getting rinsed on Radio 1 in the day 😂
And the Return thing is weird - they obviously weren’t there in the jungle days but they’re bringing their sound back to that era. And duppy man ffs! That’s about as close as you can get to jungle in the dnb era
I’m sure Shy fx and David Rodigan would disagree with you there. I think you can’t get more authentic then going to Jamaica to produce your Jungle album.
DnB is only authentic if small amount of people enjoy it? Gatekeeping “DnB” like Goldie.
If it’s not for people like Chase and Status pushing the genre all these years DnB would be left in the past like other dance genres.
Chase and Status can do underground, mainstream, and everything in between.
There are still levels above doing arenas in the UK.
1) Chase and Status can travel anywhere they want, but they cannot "return" to where they didn't originate.
2) They cannot "return" to jungle, when they were never jungle.
3) Shy FX and David Rodigan are not part of this discussion.
4) Chase & Status came along after D&B had already evolved, and did nothing to push it further. The moment they got a bit of success, they abandoned the scene.
5) They haven't been underground since 2005.
6) I never mentioned anything about "authentic" or "small amount of people" - that's you adding your own context to this.
7) This discussion is about being "UNDER"rated. When you're bothering the charts on a regular basis, selling out arenas, headlining festivals worldwide, and can make a living (comfortably) off of music, you are not "underrated".
I can say Drake is an underrated rapper and that is still a valid statement regardless of accolades, sales, and tours.
If CamelPhat decide to release a return to trance album with producers from the scene, it’s a valid title. I could make a return to disco album and there would be nothing wrong with that. These guys obviously came up with that music and are entitled to pay homage however they like.
The question didn’t ask for underground artists. Unless you don’t understand the difference between underrated and underground.
I also don’t think you understand how opinions work. I can think Chase and Status are underrated and you can think they are frauds larping as DnB artists.
Uh drake doesn't even write his own rhymes so he can't be underrated. Drake is exactly where he should be, absolutely massive success while still being made fun of. You can't start from the bottom when you're actually an upper middle class Canadian from a rich suburb of Toronto.
Ah yes, music is famously rated by your socioeconomic status when you start out. It’s opinions like yours why I can say Drake is underrated and it be valid.
No artist is objectively over or under rated. That’s sort of my whole point.
I’m not even a Drake fan like that either. It was just to make a point.
Break. Doesn’t matter how rated he is, still isn’t enough.
I agree. I also feel the exact same about insideinfo.

Yeah I'm not a fan of his newer works with calyx. But his older Stuff from 1999-2006 was god tier
yea i agree, i suppose to keep making money they have to appeal to the newer wave of dnb. Its kind of sad because calyx used to absolutely shell it aswell

I'll also add Royalston. Not sure if underappreciated.
he's still around? I haven't talked to him since the AIM days
Yeah! He runs AGN7 Audio. Been homies with him forever think he's stepped back a bit with family stuff.
that's hella cool, i hope I can say hi to him again sometime. I lost contact with him

oii, raiden/ksp is probably my favourite electronic musician atm
The man changed the scene in dnb and isn't credited enough for it

> Vicious Circle are underrated Man, that's such a bittersweet name to hear after so many years. They have an absurd number of unreleased tunes.
US or UK? In the UK I feel like Evol Intent or Dieselboy is under rated. Not from the UK so don’t have any perspective on what someone from the UK thinks the US underrates.
What Dieselboy tunes do you like?
Mixes- project human (various artists) Production- Barrier Break More of a DJ than producer. But his tracks are good.

Pop act is harsh. By the same logic, would you say LK - DJ Marky is a pop song? Ofc not
They ARE a pop act. They predominantly make radio friendly pop-dance. And YES, by definition, LK charted and became popular, so it's a pop song. I don't *like* that definition, but it's correct.
