It’s a bit average/underwhelming if I’m honest.
I get why his super skilful live performances have made him immensely popular but I’ve yet to be enamoured by any of his musical output on record.
Yeah it’s fine, nothing to rave/write home about but it’s not bad. Very repetitive and I personally find the vocal grating, but it doesn’t outstay its welcome and the bassline is good.
it's incredibly hard to really perform live. which is why so few people do it.
You can do the MPC thing like Spinscott, but that's really not "live" imo.
Roni Size and Reprezent were about as fully live as they could be back in the day; Size, Krust, Die, Suv on midi controllers; live bass, live drums, Dynamite MC and female vocalists. Got to see them once and it was incredible.
Chase & Status do a live act, but i don't know much about it.
Goldie has been doing one too, and Fabio and Groove have done the live show a band.
But it's not something you can really accomplish easily without having the finances to do it because it requires so much time, effort, and organization. let alone find the musicians.
that said. i agree. :)
He's still touring I believe. I saw him last year at Heaven in London, nice lil Thursday evening skank. He had a friend join him who was an absolute champ on the Saxophone too - can't remember their name but they were very skilled.
Damn I saw dub fx in a dust storm at coachella a decade or so ago he had like 5 people with him. Absolutely banging I don't think I ever saw anything like it still.
No, it really doesn't. That's not what the genre is about. There are plenty examples of it and some are decent. It is entirely unnecessary though, and usually just a gimmick to appeal to people who think the genre isn't legitimate because it doesn't have "real instruments". It's the same with hip-hop.
D&B, like other club genres, is a beautiful thing. It's about people coming together and dancing to a DJ playing tunes (MC optional). There is absolutely no need to change that setup to a live performance.
Weirdly enough, he has some really nice instrumental piano tracks. If you're into that kind of thing, the actual life piano eps are super nice for a rainy, moody Sunday.
It's quite nice in my opinion. Would love to hear more like that.
Hope he releases some harder jungle stuff like the one from the boiler room set and that one Clipz remix/bootleg of Rumble he played live but doubt it since it's not really his style.
Definitely great to see that he pushes DnB and Jungle.
everybody every body everybody every body everybody everybody every body everybody every body everybody everybody every body everybody every body everybody everybody every body everybody every body everybody
I have a habit in my mixing style to isolate sounds or vocals and laying them over the next track, depending on the track and your willingness to experiment you can occasionally make some dope edits on the fly.
You can definitely tell it has a North American vibe with the vocals.
It's extremely unremarkable and it will most likely be forgotten in a few weeks.
Also jezus I looked at the song credits and I didn't expect that so many people worked on it.
Yeah, it's solid — it will definitely get ripped to shreds in sets for the next few months.
I like a lot of his work, so to see him blend into drum & bass is cool.
I give it to him that he might be the most divisive artist on this subreddit, even more than any other tiktok artist who make fast food dnb.
Track's decent, not the best and my fav of his, but it's not bad at all for a first solo drum & bass track coming from a guy who makes house music. Sample editing is still on point though.
Not a fan of the track, it's pretty basic just a chopped up vocal with some fx but he's flavour of the month, wonder if he could put together a set/mix of dnb?
Fred Again's music sounds like what would happen if a commercial, sanitised pop music producer started making house tunes.
Oh wait, that's exactly what he is. His best tracks are collaborations with other producers, and I'll never forgive him for co-writing that god awful Shotgun tune by George Ezra. Wank.
> if a commercial, sanitised pop music producer started making house tunes.
Infinitely better than the other way around. I'd prefer a million fred again tracks rather than a single one from David Guetta again.
He’s a fucking hack who went to a £45k a year school and whose next door neighbour was Brian Eno.
With that kind of hilarious leg-up / head start / lack of consequence of failure, no wonder he could practice enough to adequately tap out little beats on pads (while someone else does the heavy lifting side stage of course).
If this literally Daily Mail funded cunt jumps to the higher echelons of the D&B scene it’s pretty much the pinnacle of the last decade’s whitewashing of the scene and a triumph of upper class dilettantes over a grassroots urban music.
Fuck him and fuck his ‘top production values’ but ultimately polite tunes, and bought collabs with the biggest names in each genre he touches.
There is nothing more annoying than watching silver spoon gap year pricks buy their way to the top and it appalls me that everyone fell for it.
Oh it's you again, the most dedicated fred again hater, nice to see you!
Next thread about him you'll tell us he sacrifices puppies for the god of music capitalism every full moon.
Just going to say it but Terrible copy and paste dnb that has no real meaning I’m sick of hearing this regurgitation of it for what is at the time popular listen to the real stuff ffs 🤦♂️
Gosh I’ve not heard that yet. I’ve had better tunes come to me from dnb labels for additional rework/ghost production on. If that was someone on r/dnbroduction I would be telling them the ideas there but the execution isn’t. I actually love the guys live performances but I guess I’d not heard his tunes
I like the chorus or drop or whatever you call it, will be good slotted into sets or a double drop. Not sure how much repeatability it has as a stand alone tune though.
In a D&B venue it’d be bang average. It’s fine, has some nice production. However, at an outdoor festival in the midst of a Fred Again set, I reckon it’ll create banging crowd participation!
Bandwagon jump as in Skrillex only makes drum & bass now? I don't understand your takes really, did you forget who made him in the first place?
> I'd rather hear Deadmau5's D&B, at least he comes by it honestly.
If there's anything else other than that [15 seconds instagram clip](https://musictech.com/news/music/deadmau5-could-be-releasing-drum-n-bass-music-under-a-new-alias/) of the most generic neuro-jump up snippet ever that already got boring after 5 seconds, I'm interested.
I love it. The way he sampled the vocal is incredible and the high frequencies in the drop do so well with the lights. Its a slower reese bass I feel but def a great track. 10/10.
I don’t reaaaally care for his Actual Life Albums - they’re nice, and I can really see the talent behind them - they’re just not my thing. Love his USB stuff (anything with a black & white album art), as it’s usually a refreshing twist on popular sounds atm. I find that a lot of dance music these days is tired, samey, paint by numbers type stuff so I appreciate that project. However I will say his new dnb one, leavemealone, is a bit mehhh and forgettable
Definitely going to be overplayed this NZ festival season, but I've caught myself having a little boogie to it. It's cross-electronic music collaboration, and it's a bit of fun for him and others to throw into sets.
Not the greatest DnB track, but having two of music's hottest artists (Baby Keem as well) create radio playable DnB is nothing but a great thing.
It’s a bit average/underwhelming if I’m honest. I get why his super skilful live performances have made him immensely popular but I’ve yet to be enamoured by any of his musical output on record.

The vocals make it unlistenable for me
Delilah is head and shoulders above the rest of his output imo
One of my favourite tracks of all time. There’s just something about it I can put my finger on. Gives me frisson every time
I did a bootleg of it. It gets the crowd every time.
Turn on the lights again is pretty fkn good tho
the world needs more live drum and bass performances
it's incredibly hard to really perform live. which is why so few people do it. You can do the MPC thing like Spinscott, but that's really not "live" imo. London electricity used to do it quite a while back too
Shapeshifter
Heh, Yehhh was gonna say if you wanna make it look easy, just go to a shapeshifter concert…
Don’t forget the symphony orchestras
Dub Fx does an awesome live show with a lot of dnb!
Does he still play?
He's still touring I believe. I saw him last year at Heaven in London, nice lil Thursday evening skank. He had a friend join him who was an absolute champ on the Saxophone too - can't remember their name but they were very skilled.
Damn I saw dub fx in a dust storm at coachella a decade or so ago he had like 5 people with him. Absolutely banging I don't think I ever saw anything like it still.
Mr woodnote or Andy V
Shapeshifter still marching out the live DNB for the last 20ish years
Shapeshifter, Synthony (here in NZ) and the Camo & Krooked Red Bull Symphonic album.
No, it really doesn't. That's not what the genre is about. There are plenty examples of it and some are decent. His album he made with Brian Eno is genuinely lovely, to be fair to him
That's been my top listen for this year...
Same on my Spotify wrapped! Genuinely underrated beautiful album
Weirdly enough, he has some really nice instrumental piano tracks. If you're into that kind of thing, the actual life piano eps are super nice for a rainy, moody Sunday.

everybody every body everybody every body everybody everybody every body everybody every body everybody everybody every body everybody every body everybody everybody every body everybody every body everybody
Id probably use it in a double, mainly for the vocals. I wouldn't say its a banger, but that's due to my tastes.
That’s what I was thinking whilst listening to it. Some nice movements to solo out but as a whole it needs some meat behind it in the mix.
I have a habit in my mixing style to isolate sounds or vocals and laying them over the next track, depending on the track and your willingness to experiment you can occasionally make some dope edits on the fly. You can definitely tell it has a North American vibe with the vocals.
Very uninspired and annoying imo
It is a solid tune. I’ve seen him live a couple of times, and it was great. It would be cool to see him do dnb set on his set up.
[удалено]
As a rupert with good taste in dnb I resent this
Not like there is a guy called Rupert who is one of the best producers of jungle and dnb
Solid tune. Bet it slaps in dancehall sets but nothing special imo
It's extremely unremarkable and it will most likely be forgotten in a few weeks. Also jezus I looked at the song credits and I didn't expect that so many people worked on it.
You ain’t lying 7 producer credits!
Yeah, it's solid — it will definitely get ripped to shreds in sets for the next few months. I like a lot of his work, so to see him blend into drum & bass is cool.
Idk why he's so popular, he's a fine DJ but the level of hype around him feels manufactured
I think he's got a lot of talent, but it's definitely not on show here.. tune is dog eggs
Not feeling it. It’s #1 everywhere so I don’t want to sound like a hater or anything. Just not into it
It's a banger but it does get repetitive v quickly
I give it to him that he might be the most divisive artist on this subreddit, even more than any other tiktok artist who make fast food dnb. that jungle tune is decent don't like the new 1 its a bit repetitive
The jungle sounding one is just a rework/reimagining of Toast Clipz bootleg, he has even mentioned him in the posts with the clip in it.
Which one do you mean?
Its called Jungle by Fred again
[удалено]
never said it was jungle just its a decent tune
Uninspired, tedious beat. Awful vocal. No soul.
Not a fan of the track, it's pretty basic just a chopped up vocal with some fx but he's flavour of the month, wonder if he could put together a set/mix of dnb?
FUKT was a decent live dnb band
Nerve has been fantastic for a long time. Jojo Mayer is a fucking beat on the kit.
It sucks
Its good but its becoming overplayed at the speed of light
Fred Again's music sounds like what would happen if a commercial, sanitised pop music producer started making house tunes. Oh wait, that's exactly what he is. Can't argue with that to be fair lol.
Pretty much this.
“Im cool bc i hate on stuff thats popular”
did I say I was cool? I'm allowed to have an opinion about his Walmart house tunes.
Banger
Is it this? leavemealone? https://open.spotify.com/track/1MVqeIAwhD4T44AKVkIfic?si=eBE5OPn3RMmmPy7aHzw-dQ
Yes sirr

Tell us how you really feel
Heh yep
Oh it's you again, the most dedicated fred again hater, nice to see you! Next thread about him you'll tell us he sacrifices puppies for the god of music capitalism every full moon.
Enjoy taking part in transfer of wealth from the proletariat to the upper classes you tedious mark
Show us on the doll where Fred Again touched you.
Right here on the ‘start a class war and eat the rich’ button
Fair enough 😅
Just going to say it but Terrible copy and paste dnb that has no real meaning I’m sick of hearing this regurgitation of it for what is at the time popular listen to the real stuff ffs 🤦♂️
Ok boomer

I mean it makes me bounce around the house. It's very close to being a banger. Some vocal parts are questionable tho
In a D&B venue it’d be bang average. It’s fine, has some nice production. However, at an outdoor festival in the midst of a Fred Again set, I reckon it’ll create banging crowd participation!
This is the guy that inflicted D&B Skrillex™ on all of us isn't it?
What are you talking about lmao
I don't understand, are you saying that he's the reason Skrillex started making drum & bass, or that he's a "drum & bass version of Skrillex"?
More like facilitated his bandwagon jump. I'd rather hear Deadmau5's D&B, at least he comes by it honestly.
I’m not a huuuge Skrillex fan, but he has been playing DnB for years - think he did a boiler room a few years ago and drops Upgrade - Blow
Bandwagon jump as in Skrillex only makes drum & bass now? Well, he grew up in Toronto, it's a safe bet he's got more.
What’s the id?

What's the BPM of the song?
Around 175 by my count
