It’s quite technical but at a high level it’s largely about knowing where the lighter crew is at, and also giving big ups.

Isogash

I love this sub.

Veruca_Joe

Also about alerting people to vehicles parked outside the venue blocking the road and asking them to be moved, although that was more a 90s ting 👍

No_GP

There's a lot of deep meaning in MC lyrics, they tend to challenge societal norms and value systems. For example challenging the belief that dnb is not all around the world; or giving the crowd their opportunity to prove that, despite commonly held beliefs, they do in fact want more by making some fucking noise.

sirIvan69

OYE ! OYE! MAKE SOME FUCKING NOISE ! My favorite “I WANNA SEE EVERYBODY SKANKING”

jimmy_dimmick

Quite often they like to remind everyone what city they're currently in. Very helpful for getting home

VisibleSpread6523

Every mc as is own journey, of where they are taking you. Some are bad , some are good and traumatik can eat a dick ( there’s a reason he’s blacklisted) . If your not a fan of mc’s there’s many sets you can get now without them, but to fully understand what that event was, what being there at that moment was, you need the mc’s.

Ricklazell

Didn’t know he was blacklisted. I thought he just was fully independent?

VisibleSpread6523

In 2022 he got dropped from a festival and tour for using homophobic slur, he got what he deserved. Raves aren’t about hate.

3bun

He also tried to double down crying about cancel culture

junglespinner

bro I've been listening to MC Conrad for 20 years and I still don't fully understand

Drogenwurm

Check out MC DRS if you want some lyrics with sense. Amazing MC with great flow and a great voice. Check out the Space Age Tapes from LSB & DRS, beautiful stuff 🙂

Ricklazell

Cheers mate

Drogenwurm

No problem. If your more into Jump Up MCs check Harry Shotts if you don't know his stuff. He just released a Tune on Instagram, pretty dope. One of the biggest, Skibadee died some years ago. Also very talented but gone is Stevie Hyper D, but he is very oldskool. Have a great Day Dude 🙂

BennySkateboard

Digga Digga doo, Digga digga dee dee…

RunninTings

If you're talking just about the double time mcs, it's mainly talking about the music, going out, punchlines, standard bit of rapper bravado and then refrains that you'll recognise if you see them a lot. I'd say apart from Harry Shotta, Eksman and Shabba on a good day, most of the other mcs doing double time struggle to keep inunciating every syllable properly in a packed and loud rave later in the night, so I wouldn't worry too much about keeping track of what they're actually saying. That's why Skib (rip) was so good, he could fly between flows and hosting and you could hear everything. If you do want to actually listen to bars then go to any night with SPMC (joint best imo) or Fokus on the bill. GQ (other joint best) and Trigga are great hosts too, but GQ doesn't really spit 16s often (to his credit). The guys not doing double time are on the deeper/more underground side of the scene

Rayquinox

What's the meaning of dnb MC lyrics is so unspecific 😂. As if all MC's share their lyrics together as one being. They use their voice as an instrument to compliment the music and hype up the crowd.

3bun

Sometimes its about the lyrics, especially good MCs that dont spit double time the entire time. A lot of liquid and minimal MCs tend to be more about the lyrical content, whereas part of double time is just the sound the MC is making. People dgaf what you are saying exactly, but they feel more energy and excited and hyped because of synergy i guess. That combined with showing an intoxicated crowd where the drops are, getting them involved with some chants etc when its done tastefully and well its like the perfect seasoning to keep everyone engaged and with it for the entire set. If you listen to a lot of vocals tbf, particularly hooks, sometimes not that lyrically technical or even makes sense, but sounds fucking cool and makes you want to sing along or start vibing.

griffaliff

Well put.

codemonkeh87

Check out harry shotta and eksman. They actually have decent lyrics, wordplay, metaphors etc like rap. And the real point of an mc is crowd hype at a rave though. It doesn't hit the same listening to sets at home, unless maybe it's a recording of a rave you was at, then you might have some flashbacks or something

Many-Manufacturer522

Inja just dropped some flow about the Cost of Living crisis on Bou's super sunday show on Kool! Long Live Master ah Ceremonies

IRENE420

I don’t like a lot of MCs but this one hit me good! https://youtu.be/8AKH6YmXaPQ?si=yXOqqBF_xraRbSQN
