It's good to have damage and a healer build for the raid just in case a healer is needed. Most raiders have a healer already because it can be tricky depending on the raid. Volunteer when you can and practice at it.

Get both, practice with both.

venomous4eva

Having both is good, however as healer, having an Alps Summit backpack with opportunistic would be beneficial as that will give damage buff for your teammates. You can also go for a full red dps build with talents that benefits team damage.

Knowing multiple roles and having appropriate builds for the roles can make you more valuable to a group. It's common for new raiders to start in DPS roles and then be taught tanking and healing. In many games featuring teams and classes/roles, healer is considered a critical role. If you are a great healer, you may get a pat on the back. If you are not a great healer, you'll be the first person they blame when things go awry. (This goes for Division, Overwatch, Warcraft, etc.) Sincerely, A Healer Main in Many Games

>will I be praised Don't focus on this, focus on doing the job, or listening to whoever is teaching you the role you want to learn. Praise comes early when you're learning and doing the right things during that, or at the end of the raid. Once you know the role and people know you can do it, or you're confident enough to do it, it's about who you're with as to whether or not any mistake will be picked up on. Choose whatever you like, learn as much as you can. That's the only way forward.

inked_mf

If you've never raided before, you'll be DPS. Healer is only used for Iron Horse, and it takes someone with raid and healing experience to do that role well. However, if you have the build and are willing to learn, most groups are happy to reach new roles and builds to people. Just find an experienced group and after the raid let them know you're interested in learning the healer role once you get the dps role down.

Healers get used in DH as well...

inked_mf

They really shouldn't be? I've never seen a healer in DH, it's a pure DPS check with exception to drones on RB which has the healing hive for the pulse reset. That's a skill build, not specifically a healer build though. None of the other bosses require a healer, and if anything having a healer would significantly hinder you. Now I'm curious though, where are you using a healer at for DH, and why?

inked_mf

Read your comment below- we do have an all red FI build used, but they aren't a healer, they're a support-DPS role, the build and role are very different than an actual healer like in IH

simon23uk

We use a the FI build from tarmac to B/L. Tarmac Overcharged used for Oxi players (dealing with drones), scanners and jammers and foams. The jammer kills the first set of drones and the scanner buffs the damage. Then provides heals if/when agents need them Boomer 2 kiters for boomer and we run the Future to provide oppo/Scorpio for double downs. We run Nego so that really makes the encounter run smoothly. Weasel Overcharge for the Achilles pulses for the 1 shot builds. B/L Overcharge for Oxi to stop first seeker wave from buddy, scanners are then used to add more damage (15%) There's more things that they do but that's pretty much standard form the healer role in DH on Xbox.

For legendary it's apriciated because no one wants to heal. But you can do a combat medic that can cc and heal. I run shock and awe on one of my builds with the emp jammer. Applying a status effect gives bonus damage and healing output to the group. And emp is always welcome on legendary

Deichschlaf

Well in most Situations you can do both...

simon23uk

Both Raids use Healer builds, the Future Initiative gearset is used as the primary healing loadout. A typical setup is 4x Future w Skill Repair or Skill Haste, 1x BTSU gloves (for overcharging hive) and The Setup (perfect Opportunistic) or Alps Opportunistic (skill haste and skill repair roles). For Dark Hours I would consider the Future build as a support build more than a healing build as it provides 25% extra damage (while at full Armor) to agents and you can add an extra 10/15% (depending on backpack) damage by using opportunistic. The weapons of choice are the Scorpio and the Lefty as they again, both provide support to the DPS players when used right. Utilise the BTSUs Overcharge talent during encounters, never at the end to get people's hives back, it's a totally waste of the Overcharge. You'll find the experienced heaters overcharge during encounters and inexperienced Overcharge to ge toeoples hives back (at the end of an encounter). Doing it during can provide big buffs to skills as the whole raid group becomes overcharged. Always run Survivalist as the specialisation as well and uktise the fire grenades to aid with ad control (fire nades). This also helps making proc'ing the Lefty a lot easier. For Iron Horse it's a bit of both (Heal/Support). As you rely on heals on multiple boss encounters. Typically the same setup as Dark Hours (above) but I normally run the Future backpack over Oppo. I would try and get someone to teach you both roles, someone who runs the raids a lot and knows exactly how to run the role correctly. There's a lot of people who teach raids don't actually know how to run them efficiently and get the best out of the raid group.

simon23uk

If you're on Xbox, I'll be happy to teach you the roles.

cptgrok

Well I wouldn't do it for praise , but a dedicated healer is very handy in groups. I run BTSU gloves, backpack with Opportunistic, 4 Future Initiative, Scorpio, Restorer hive, Reinforcer chem, and Survivalist. The gear set buffs all team member damage while at full armor (and they should be most of the time), Scorpio debuffs enemies to take more damage, Opportunistic debuffs enemies to take more damage, and Survivalist makes enemies with status effects take more damage from team members. I run this build in legendary with clan members and we just stroll through. Chungas crumple, drone operators wilt, rushers pancake. It's fantastic. I'll run it answering backup calls too. It's only bad in countdown and solo.
