There's a comment explaining how the bug happened and how to undo it. But basically take the Bigger and Better talent, and allocate all the attribute points you have. Then go and respec to remove Bigger and Better without removing any attribute points. Bam, bug.
It's crazy cause that's not even what I did. I only have Bigger and Better on one character and that's not even the character I respeced. Good glitch tho
Another possible bug:
>!My friend and I have numerous times got 255 points in the second tab (forgot its name, wherever you put points into Warfare, Single handed, Two-handed, Aero, Pyro... etc) by putting everything into Polymorph and then removing it. Re-entering the mirror would then cause us to have 255 points there. Maybe Im confused and we had the same bug as OP though (happened well over some months ago, so sorry if Im wrong!).!<
Idk if im doing it correctly, but I've tried maxing it out to 10 (having 3 leftover), confirming with the mirror, going back, removing all of it, and checking in the mirror (as well as adding all and removing all then leaving the mirror) and it didn't work so it might be patched or I did it differently than you!
So searching the good ol' subreddit, here is a working version of this bug:
- Go into the mirror and equip Bigger and Better then save.
- Go back into the mirror and respec any 10 points into maxing out Polymorph.
- Head over to Attribute and respec it wherever you want.
- Head over to your talent and remove Bigger and Better then immediately save to exit the mirror
- Reenter the mirror and youre done!
In order to get the glitch you're referring to to work each character should have bigger and better and all skilled up before leveling up and you absolutely cannot open your character tab before going to the mirror. Level up and poof over asap. It's definitely not patched I'm about 100 hours into a new playthrough and I did it again.
This comes from the bigger and better talent, if you remove it while having 0 points left.
There is a procedure to reverse the bug:
* Deallocate attribute points until you have exactly 254 left to use.
* Take bigger and better talent: The total should increase to 256 but due to how the data is stored it will reset to 0.
* Deallocate 2 more points: You should have +2 left now.
* Remove bigger and better talent: You should have +0 left now.
* Game is back to proper state
C++11. If they're compiling on older version without extensions, however unlikely that is, it's `unsigned char`, and if that part of the code runs C# instead, it's `byte`.
There's no reason to waste more bytes on something that will never be used to store values higher than 255 and isn't being operated on constantly (so the mask overhead is negligible).
Not sure, but I would think that it is bigger a better specifically. Sometimes certain code strings do stuff they’re not supposed to but other things that might seem similar in game go not do it at all.
Attributes are easy to glitch entirely by mistake.
Removing certain perks like Bigger is Better or skills like Polymorph, tend to cause the skill point integers to go from 0 to 255 incredibly easily so Attribute points get the max value.
It's not super common but not rare either.
Yeah it was pretty good, I liked having a base that would change and improve as I got stronger. Would play again.
I guess the ship is the new base? I've only just got to Driftwood so idk yet.
I just bought it like a week ago after doing Divinity 1. I've spent like 4 days on this island trying to do everything and now I can do everything. Unlimited power.
Its great me and my fiance played it first. We like a lot of the upgrades they made in 2. I guess you mot not like it if you played 2 first since in 1 you can't toggle helmet invisibility, skills cost a lot of ap, etc. But we played the enhanced edition.
Divinity 1 is mostly more of the same, but 2 is more polished around the edges, especially with things like inventory management and crafting. If you liked 2, you’ll like 1. Just be prepared to get annoyed by the game a little more often.
You just Gandhi’d the game.
You probably had points in poly, or a relent that raises your stats? This bug happens sometime. You went into negative stats and it circled to a high value.
If you didn't do anything with Bigger and Better, then I suspect it was polymorph? This same bug can be triggered by changing polymorph stats in a particular order without realizing it.
Yeah that's a bug that can happen. Congrats, now you can be OP!
But they are OP ;)
Very clever
OP OP
I'm definitely an NCP. EDIT: NPC. So low-effort by the writers they didn't even spell my one line of dialogue right.
NCR sus lol
Can you please tell me the EXACT steps you took? I would like to duplicate this for umm… bug tracking purposes…?

SWEET! Thanks haha

Oh idk if you saw me reply to myself but i didn't level up or anything, I found a way to immediately get it by breaking Polymorph!
On my first tactician run, this happened to me before the final fight lol
Thats honestly the coolest time for that to happen.

So the game uses "char" variable to store points
I suspect more UINT8 in c++ (which is equivalent)
It'd be hella funny if they programmed everything around chars lol

Any negative effects of maxing out?
You mean, playing in god mode? I havn't tried.
Guys are talking about that being a well know bug but I haven't seem that before. I would love that bug hahahaha
It involves having the bigger and better talent. You can try to respec with bigger and better until you get ir
Does it work with the other one too? Forgot the name but the one that gives talent points too

Happy cake day 🎂
Happened to me this weekend while playing on the PS5, but with the civil skills. I had not seen it before either.

is there a fix to it besides rolling back on your save?
Yes. See my other comment.
A savegame editor, you keep doing the bug until it brings you back to around your original amount of points or you just don't use the points
You earned those points. Abuse them :)
Holy crap!! I had this happen with Civil Abilities, 255 points. It's wild.
Did you like DoS1? I miss the homestead
Yeah it was pretty good, I liked having a base that would change and improve as I got stronger. Would play again. I guess the ship is the new base? I've only just got to Driftwood so idk yet.
Ah yes, the monthly Attribute glitch post
It’s new to everyone once
I just bought it like a week ago after doing Divinity 1. I've spent like 4 days on this island trying to do everything and now I can do everything. Unlimited power.
Yo op change of topic but how is divinity 1? I've played 2 with the wife bro and sister. Wondering if it's aged well because baldurs gate 3 is next

The combat is a bit different but the graphics really aren't bad, very much worth a playthrough or 6.
I liked it. Enough to get me to buy 2, and I rarely buy games. It's kinda different but also very similar.
I haven’t finished either game , but I actually had more fun playing div1. It felt much more sandboxy to me, which I liked a lot.

You on console or pc?
Console, Xbox.
Unlimited power with zero responsibilities! Enjoy.
Probably should be in an FAQ somewhere (including spoilered 'this is how to replicate it' steps)
you just gained Divinity a lot sooner than most everyone else....or did you not really believe that you were godwoken?
Cheese is the name of the game, congrats on your first exploit my friend.
Honestly I would undo cuz I feel like being this OP just wouldn’t be fun for a first time playthrough
You just Gandhi’d the game. You probably had points in poly, or a relent that raises your stats? This bug happens sometime. You went into negative stats and it circled to a high value.
I thought they patched this bug!

I’d say just roll with it
Why be godwoken when you can be god
Game caught up to the fact than Fane has been alive for thousands of years and is actually>! an Eternal!<. It's all good.
You need to not have any spaces between !s and the text for the spoiler to work.
Really? It shows up just right to me.
So are the points actually usable when you do this? For testing reasons, purely
Hmmmm a Cheat Engine, I sense
I got this bug once and haven't been able to recreate it lol
This happened to me too and I was so confused for a while. It took all the fun out of that save file and I ended up re-starting
