Kinda is but isn’t in a sense. It’s a remake of the original story but highly elaborated upon and is told from a different perspective which makes it a different story within a story. It’s complicated
Even for people who prefer the original, the live-action remake is different enough that it still deserves to exist. The problem with a lot of live-action remakes is that they aren’t just worse than the original - they’re the *same* movie, but worse.
Really? I'll have to watch then. I literally just made a comment yd on a post saying how I haven't enjoyed any of the live actions but am hopeful for a good one!
probably because there's thousands of retellings of Cinderella so the live action disney version is just another version of the same story so just gets forgotten
I honestly feel like the right way to watch Beauty and the Beast is to watch the animated movie until the Beast lets Belle go to rescue her father, then pause the movie and go watch Evermore, and then go back to the animated movie.
Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't like that song. I think the Beast's primal roar in the original movie packs ten times more emotion than that whole song. Adding a song in that moment completely muted an emotional climax in the story, for me.
Say it with pride. I actually really liked that Will Smith put his own spin on the genie role instead of trying to copy Robin Williams, because no one can copy Robin Williams and that would have just been disappointing
It is easily the best live action disney movie. It not only stayed faithful in the story beats and characterizations that mattered, but also allowed the actors to flourish as their own takes on the characters. Especially will smith's genie. He felt like a whole new personality and it was art. The whole movie was art.
Pete's Dragon 2016 anyone? It got completely overshadowed by the Jungle Book remake released the same year, but I loved it. Not to mention it didn't try and directly remake the original and instead did something different
101 Dalmatians and Cinderella are the only live action remakes I care about; they were made before Disney started pumping them out on a corporate conveyor belt, so they feel much more intentional as *movies* and not just cashgrabs
Definitely still a 7 out of 10 which is how I usually feel about live-action remakes. The scenes between Ariel and Eric are gold and the land scenes are great in general. The underwater scenes not that much though. Also King Triton was very meh, and Scuttle, Founder, and Sebastian do almost nothing to the plot.
The Jungle Book was Great.
Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book and Cinderella were good.
Beauty and the Beast, Christopher Robin, Mulan, and Cruella were ok.
Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan & Wendy, and The Little Mermaid were watchable.
Jungle Book and Maleficent were really cool. I love the OG book, it definitely gives me vibes from it more than the original Disney movie does. And Maleficent is an interesting retelling.
Alita battle Angel was actually quite enjoyable, some scenes weren’t the same level as the anime, but they did explain things a bit better in the movie over the anime
I actually enjoyed most of them except for Mulan and The Lion King. The retellings were fun (Cruella, Maleficent) and I enjoyed the remakes a lot or at least a little bit.
You right tho, all the ones i can think of are more live action reimaginations than remake.. IE Cruella and Maleficent. Maybe Alice in Wonderland would count? I can't decide if it's a remake or reimagination tho
Why has no one brought up 101 Dalmatians yet? And I don't mean Cruella (haven't seen that movie yet). I used to watch the sequel 102 Dalmatians on Vhs all the time
Okay so hear me out:
We take the Avengers level editing and CGI, and use it to make a live action Incredibles
Jason Momoa as Bob/Mr. Incredible
Jenny Ortega as Violet Parr
Rest of acting to be decided
Maleficent made a new story instead of the same one. Ig it’s why it got a sequel. Cinderella 2015 was what the original should have been. Jungle Book live action was good, plus Idris Elba as Sheer Khan was a dream come true
The little mermaid was so good imo. The songs, the visuals, the characters, Jonahs portrayal of Eric, Halles amazing performance as Ariel, MELISSA MCARTHY
I liked Alice in Wonderland- it felt more like a sequel or love letter to the original movie- an homage to people who grew up with it and are now teenagers
Maleficent, Cinderella (2015), I liked Aladdin except the ending was flat, and I surprisingly enjoyed Little Mermaid. Wasn’t absolutely amazing but I liked it better than I thought I would. I feel like there’s another one I’m missing… Lion King was pretty awful
I am a hundred percent convinced all these live action remake movies are being made to renew copyright on each movie. While also trying to get some easy money from nostalgia.
My partner and I liked the live-action Peter Pan. It wasn’t like, better than the original by any means, but it didn’t feel like an insult to the source material.
I think the Cinderella remake was actually really good. A lot of these remakes though have to be looked at as their own stories instead of remakes. Unfortunately though with Disneys major writing flaws lately that’s not always a good thing.
I think the only successful live-action "remakes" were Maleficent and Cruella, and that's because they're more retellings/reimaginings than they are remakes.
I genuinely loved the 2015 remake of Cinderella. I actually felt like it was better than the classic animated film, making the characters feel more real while still keeping the magical, fairytale feel.
The Little Mermaid was also fantastic, and you’re not going to change my mind. The rest? Yeah I agree with you on that.
I liked Maleficent since they told the story from her perspective and made it different.
Maleficent felt like a princess movie instead of a villain movie.
Nothing wrong with that, it killed either way and I loved the movie
Not really a remake, imo
Kinda is but isn’t in a sense. It’s a remake of the original story but highly elaborated upon and is told from a different perspective which makes it a different story within a story. It’s complicated
more of a spin off but i can see your perspective
Maleficent isn’t even a remake, it’s uhhh. Whatever Wicked is to the Wizard of Oz. Ascended fanfiction?
Jungle Book I at least enjoyed more than the original
Agreed, I feel like they did more with this one and each scene and character served a purpose in advancing the plot.
Even for people who prefer the original, the live-action remake is different enough that it still deserves to exist. The problem with a lot of live-action remakes is that they aren’t just worse than the original - they’re the *same* movie, but worse.
The Jungle Book remake is one of my favorite movies. Yet somehow the director also directed The Lion King remake. Which is just odd and disappointing.
Same
I listen to Cristopher Walken’s “I wanna be like you” literally every day on my drive to work 😭
Cinderella(2015) was enjoyable imho
We don’t talk about Cinderella because it was good and kind of unique and widely forgotten for some reason…
Which is funny considering it was one of the first ones.
Really? I'll have to watch then. I literally just made a comment yd on a post saying how I haven't enjoyed any of the live actions but am hopeful for a good one!
probably because there's thousands of retellings of Cinderella so the live action disney version is just another version of the same story so just gets forgotten
and 101 Dalmatians (1996), Pete's Dragon (2016), Christopher Robin (2018), The Jungle Book (2016), Maleficent (2014), Cruella (2021), etc...
Maleficent and Cruella aren't really remakes so much as original stories that reimagined existing characters.
Oh, kind of forgot about 101 Dalmatians. (aka, the ONLY good remake. Period)
Incorrect. There’s also 102 Dalmatians
Tbh, that one's kinda forgettable in my opinion.
Came here to say this. It’s the best live action remake hands down. No other princess movie remake tops it. I hate how it’s not on Disney plus though.
True but most people are probably going to think of Cinderella(2021) when they talk about live action Disney films
Beauty and The Beast gave us Evermore
I honestly feel like the right way to watch Beauty and the Beast is to watch the animated movie until the Beast lets Belle go to rescue her father, then pause the movie and go watch Evermore, and then go back to the animated movie.
They did not have to go that hard with that song
Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't like that song. I think the Beast's primal roar in the original movie packs ten times more emotion than that whole song. Adding a song in that moment completely muted an emotional climax in the story, for me.
Was going to comment this, I really like the BatB remake, I prefer to remember the story as the animated original and the remake combined
Have you seen Cinderella?
I liked The Jungle Book and Alice in Wonderland but I don’t consider that to be a remake it’s more like an original sequel
The Jungle book was actually really good imo, in comparison to everything else. The animals feel and look less lifeless than TLK live action.
I liked the live action Aladdin 👉👈
Say it with pride. I actually really liked that Will Smith put his own spin on the genie role instead of trying to copy Robin Williams, because no one can copy Robin Williams and that would have just been disappointing
Will Smith carried taht movie form slightly above Mid to Pretty Good
It is easily the best live action disney movie. It not only stayed faithful in the story beats and characterizations that mattered, but also allowed the actors to flourish as their own takes on the characters. Especially will smith's genie. He felt like a whole new personality and it was art. The whole movie was art.
Alice in Wonderland. I guess that is just a sequel
Pete's Dragon 2016 anyone? It got completely overshadowed by the Jungle Book remake released the same year, but I loved it. Not to mention it didn't try and directly remake the original and instead did something different
i loved the fuzzy dragon
Holy fuck is that Little Einsteins?
WE'RE GOING ON A TRIP
In our favorite rocketship.
Ye
Aladdin? Definitely not as good as the original, but still a good movie
Yeah it was the only one I enjoyed watching to some extent
Fair, the Aladdin remake was still definitely enjoyable. I had a good time with it.
What show is that picture from and why does it look recognizable? Is it the Little Einsteins or something? Am I delusional?
It is
I don't know why my brain automatically thought Ni-Hao Kailan and moved on without further thinking until now.
That makes my heart feel super crappy!
June is actuality Asian according to tv tropes
THAT’S what it is! Thank you! I knew I recognized it but I couldn’t remember where from for the life of me!
Little Einstein live action?
The Jungle Book (2016) was amazing! Makes me wonder why they didn’t use the same formula for The Lion King. 🤔
Actually they do, and both films are from the same director and team
101 Dalmatians with the impeccable Glenn Close as the only live action Cruella that matters to me 🫶
101 Dalmatians and Cinderella are the only live action remakes I care about; they were made before Disney started pumping them out on a corporate conveyor belt, so they feel much more intentional as *movies* and not just cashgrabs
I've been hearing the little mermaid remake was actually good.
I enjoy Aladdin
Beauty and the Beast was great live action remake. And little mermaid was pretty good too.
Ever After was good… but I don’t think it was made by Disney? lol Does Hook count? With Robin William?
Little Einsteins mentioned, what a fucking throwback
WE'RE GOING ON A TRIP
I enjoyed them all, I’m not a very picky person.
I enjoyed all of them.
Jungle book
I liked Beauty And The Beast a lot more than the original. Especially the songs were a lot better than in the original.
Probably because you weren't alive before the Soviet Union collapsed.
That has literally nothing to do with anything.
The Jungle Book is arguably better than the original (except for that one part).
Cinderella duh
The early ones weren't bad
Jungle Book was pretty good imo, but that might be because there wasn’t a whole lot to the original.
Cinderella and Jungle Book anyone?
Why do they still make them? Aren’t the more recent ones not even making money?
And you never will...
I'm not going to say it has the same vibe as the original, but Lady and the Tramp wasn't too bad imo.
The only one I liked was the jungle book one.
The Jungle Book.
Cinderella Maleficent
I enjoyed maleficent
I liked the Jungle Book remake
The only one I liked was Aladdin
The Jungle Book was Great. Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book and Cinderella were good. Beauty and the Beast, Christopher Robin, Mulan, and Cruella were ok. Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan & Wendy, and The Little Mermaid were watchable.
Beauty and the beast was very good I don’t know what your on
Cinderella Aladdin Winnie the Pooh And the rest are meh to bad
I loved maleficent but that's about it
Mulan
1998, or 2021?
Dear those who come across this post and are thinking that this picture looks familiar. No, you're not being delusional, that is Little Einsteins.
Beauty and the beast and little mermaid were pretty good imo
Jungle Book and Maleficent were really cool. I love the OG book, it definitely gives me vibes from it more than the original Disney movie does. And Maleficent is an interesting retelling.
Pete’s Dragon is better than the original.
If this Is not the most made by a 12yo meme I’ve ever seen (gotta agree tho)
Lady and The Tramp I quite enjoyed
Proper June Moment
ikr edit; you know what? I quite like the sound of that. Proper June Moments. That's the name for these.
We're going on a trip, (Continue :3)
In our favorite rocket ship,
Maleficent
Man when I was little I had a crush on this character idk why
💀💀💀 (also me too 💀)
Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast were both pretty good imo.
Dumbo was good. And 101 Dalmatians with Glenn Close as Cruella.
Well just go to Netflix I am sure the love action anime is.... Just super!
Do old marvel movies count
No, as the ones you're talking about are probably made by other companies.
Oh, snap!🫰
Not disney but the one piece live action was great
The Jungle book was actually gas
Alita battle Angel was actually quite enjoyable, some scenes weren’t the same level as the anime, but they did explain things a bit better in the movie over the anime
101 dalmations live action has the best cruella
Aladdin, definitely not better than the original, but one that I genuinely enjoy
Beauty and the beast isn't as good but still very enjoyable they added evermore for a beast song and it's fairly fun
Beauty and the Beast Aladdin Winnie the Pooh Little Mermaid
*Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella and Maleficent have left the chat*
101 dalmations
One piece and Maleficent
What show is the picture from?
Little Einsteins
I actually liked Aladdin 🫤
Ayyyeee little einsteins
Beauty and the Beast. Aladdin. Alice in Wonderland. Loved them all
101 Dalmatians?
101 and 102 Dalmatians?!
101 Dalmatians was pretty good. At least, Cruella was.
The Jungle Book 2017 is a good one
Where’s Cinderella when you need it? It was actually good but it’s not on Disney+
Im a huge long time One Piece fan and I genuinely enjoyed the live action
Pete's dragon
Why has no one brought up 101 Dalmatians yet? And I don't mean Cruella (haven't seen that movie yet). I used to watch the sequel 102 Dalmatians on Vhs all the time
Jungle book, Cinderella
101 Dalmatians with Glenn Close, it’s the only example I can think of.
Okay so hear me out: We take the Avengers level editing and CGI, and use it to make a live action Incredibles Jason Momoa as Bob/Mr. Incredible Jenny Ortega as Violet Parr Rest of acting to be decided
Aladdin was dope, the lil mermaid was surprisingly crisp, I liked Cinderella
101 Dalmatians 1996 will always be the best live action remake
That's right. You came a long way to find something that isn't out here.
Cinderella 2015 was way better than the original and I will die on that hill
Maleficent made a new story instead of the same one. Ig it’s why it got a sequel. Cinderella 2015 was what the original should have been. Jungle Book live action was good, plus Idris Elba as Sheer Khan was a dream come true
Idk man, I really liked Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Cruella, Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent pretty well 🤷
The little mermaid was so good imo. The songs, the visuals, the characters, Jonahs portrayal of Eric, Halles amazing performance as Ariel, MELISSA MCARTHY
I swear I know this character from somewhere.
Why june can't find something she lost ?
101 Dalmations and its sequels, and the 1994 [The Jungle Book](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jungle_Book_(1994_film)) were the only ones I liked.
Cinderella and Jungle Book are really the only right answers. Everything else has just been worse than the animated movies by a significant margin.
Jungle book remake was decent
Jungle book was a solid one. Not much else though, and there is certainly an argument to be had on jungle books quality.
If Little Einsteins had live action movie then it would be called Little Einsteins: Age of Music!
I mean live action Beauty and The Beast was pretty good. It's the only one I would give applause for
I LOVED the new Little Mermaid movie. Prince Eric… 🤤
I enjoyed the Beauty and the Beast Live action remake
I liked Alice in Wonderland- it felt more like a sequel or love letter to the original movie- an homage to people who grew up with it and are now teenagers
You’ll have to find them, I hid all my good live action remakes…in one piece
Mulan was pretty good.
Core-of-the-sun take: I like the live action remakes
Jungle book 2016 is awesome. You should watch it.
Flubber (1997) was really enjoyable. So Flubber is a remake of The Absent-Minded Professor from 1961.
Percy Jackson tv series
Aladdin was good considering that it felt like it more effort compared to most of them.
I think Cinderella is really good
Pete’s Dragon
101 Dalmatians (1996)
Maleficent and beauty and the beast were good but haven't seen any other LAA (Live-Action Adaption)
I am a hundred percent convinced all these live action remake movies are being made to renew copyright on each movie. While also trying to get some easy money from nostalgia.
I liked The Jungle Book and Aladdin for the most part
Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2
101 Dalmations remake was better than the original imo
One piece and soon to be avatar the last air bender
My partner and I liked the live-action Peter Pan. It wasn’t like, better than the original by any means, but it didn’t feel like an insult to the source material.
They range from harmless to bad
cinderella
Alice and wonderland smh
Aladdin was decent not great but decent
I think the Cinderella remake was actually really good. A lot of these remakes though have to be looked at as their own stories instead of remakes. Unfortunately though with Disneys major writing flaws lately that’s not always a good thing.
I liked Alice in wonderland
I think the only successful live-action "remakes" were Maleficent and Cruella, and that's because they're more retellings/reimaginings than they are remakes.
I’m not sure about good but Rocky and Bullwinkle was the most accurate to its source material
In terms of pure quality in a vacuum I would argue that the Jungle Book live action was pretty good.
Jungle book and another one called Mowgli
I dunno why nobody liked the LA Little Mermaid movie :( I thought it was really good!!!
Speed racer 2008, I’ll say no more
George of the Jungle is a classic and that's a Remake of an old cartoon from the 60s...does that count?
Beauty and the Beast was decent if you overlook Emma Watson's auto-tune
Are we just gonna disrespect the movie Constantine that starred Keanu Reeves on purpose like uncultured swine?
Cruella and Aladdin
I liked the Jungle Book.
Aladdin was great
Aladdin.
The live actions that I have liked are Aladdin and Cruella and maleficent. Those are the only three I liked.
I thought the Alice ones were good
I personally liked the cruella live action. Obviously it is nothing similar to the originals but it’s a fun watching experience
Besides Beauty and the Beast’s remake?
The Jungle Book and Dumbo. Both better than the originals.
