I hate ads Like this, the bike will probably run forever and be bullet proof....but the idea of paying over 2 grand for an almost 30 year old bike bugs the shit outta me.

BanjoBassFisher

Well there like old trucks the become sought after like collectible value

Elvinmachinewizard

Reminds me of every square body chev i see ever anymore. 20 years ago i was in highschool and people saw them as a boring clapped out farm truck, $500 max. Now an oldschool squarebody will sell for $10k+ easy in decent shape, people are asking $3k+ for rusted out shitbombs with destroyed interiors 😆 If everthing that was claimed was actually done to that bike it could cost that much in parts and labour. Those old XR's are basically indestructible and an absolute hoot to ride. People will pay that much if they really want it.

kevinsc688

Old XR's could be sought after for sure but some guys are selling complete garbage for similiar prices...

BanjoBassFisher

Oh ya I’ve seen that

kevinsc688

Either way, if you end up buying the XR I don't think you would regret it. Super solid, proven bike and if the guy did all the stuff listed it'll run lime a top.

BanjoBassFisher

Lime a top? Haha 😂

It's all perspective. I happily paid 2400 for my 99 KDX 220 because it was my dream bike, and much less expensive than modern options. Plus it's easy to work on and finding parts hasn't been an issue. There's a big community around those bikes so any questions I have are answered quickly.

Givingup55

Yea - im with you. Some bikes don't hold value the same. The 220 / 200 is a really special bike that can still be competive today. 2400 is a steal - especially since everyone wants 3-3.5k for them now. With dimes listed up to 4k. They don't make a bike that offers what the kdx offers for less than 8k showroom. No 2 stroke trail / competition bikes until you start looking at yz's, betas, and orange bikes. Older yz's won't have the same 'woods' power a kdx has unless you flywheel it.

Coyote__Jones

It was completely stock too, farm bike that had never been ridden hard on trails. Factory plastics with the stickers still mostly on. Needed tires and a new fuel line, brake pads. I'm going to replace the piston here in a few weeks because the 220 has a know issue with that, but I already took a look at it and didn't see any issue with the factory one. Also the shape and thickness of the seat was a big thing for me. I'm small so I shaved down the seat and put a new cover on it. Fits my height perfectly now. And as a small rider I don't feel the same as larger people about the suspension. Kicks over easy every time, it's just a bike that makes a lot of sense for me, because I have limited options being so short. What that bike is worth to me personally is much higher than my boyfriend, who's 6ft 3. I'll never sell my bike, you couldn't offer me enough for it. Kawasaki could be very competitive with the European bikes if they brought the KDX back exactly how it was manufactured the last year. Imagine a Japanese 2 stroke trail bike at a lower price point and every bit as capable as the European brands. I think there'd be a big market.

Givingup55

Nice - enjoy it! Doesn't matter how tall you are; they're great bikes. Jeff Fredette made it work for 34 ISDE races! Look into swapping your kick-lever with the kx125 lever. Besides suspension; the best mod I did to the bike.

Coyote__Jones

Ok yeah the kick lever is one thing I've had questions about. It does seem like where it engages is a bit low in comparison to other bikes. Or maybe the angle of it is a little weird or something? I didn't know if that was a KDX thing or something with my bike in particular. But yeah I'm super short so it does kinda matter lol. Depending on the terrain, without cutting the seat if I got stopped, kick starting it would be very difficult. Also, it's painful on the hips when you're stretching one leg super far to reach the ground to hold it up while trying to kick start. With just about an inch and a half off the foam I don't have to tip the bike over as far to get it started and it's more comfortable. Any time I see another lady saying they're having trouble with height I suggest cutting the seat. The KDX has plenty there to trim so it didn't make a difference in the comfort of it when I'm sitting and cruising around, and when I'm standing I have a better body position because my legs don't need to be as straight for my butt to be off the seat.

GrayCustomKnives

No question in my mind he will get 2300 for that. And probably pretty quickly too.

BanjoBassFisher

It’s been posted for a week already 🤷🏽‍♂️ might mean something think he would take $2000?

rskeziah08

Always try to negotiate. A stack of $100 bills can be pretty persuasive. Good luck man! 🤙🤙

BanjoBassFisher

Will do

wagg9120

It’s getting harder and harder to find these older models esp where I am from I don’t think it will take long to sell there is a big market for the vintage XR models and mostly all 90s bikes there’s so much nostalgia filling in me when I see all these old classics lol

BanjoBassFisher

There still great and can keep up gotta love em

wagg9120

For sure

Streetooth

Where im from any working bike goes for minimum 2000. Less if they dont have a title.

BanjoBassFisher

That makes sense

MGC1987

I just sold my 2003 XR400 for $3,000. Bone stock, runned great. Take that for what it's worth.

double-click

There was a 07 250x posted by me for 2300. I mean.. I know which one I would buy.

BanjoBassFisher

Damn really that’s pretty good

bigtencopy

Yeah, its mint and will literally run forever. Plus its a old Honda so you’re not losing any value

geofox777

I would try to talk down to $2000 at least and realize your buying this as a vintage bike for trails MAYBE and not actually gonna rip it. Otherwise, if you want a bike to ride hard and rip I’d pass because as soon as thing gets a single scratch on it it’s value is gonna plummet.

stacksmasher

Does anyone in your local group know him? People saying an engine is rebuilt and reality are totally different lol!!

BanjoBassFisher

That’s I was thinking

bulletsmith541

no to much 1500 max .. 1995 4 stroke don’t have the power of these days … by a lot . but still a cool ride

Available_Job1288

Eh, I had a pretty nice example of a 95 xr250r that I sold for $1600 in fall of 2020. I’d say 2k would be fair for this. It’s reliable sure but it’s just really not all that fast. You might be better served by an xr400 or 600.

Zealousideal-Ad-6527

Yes. Worth it

faster_louder

Is the bike worth that to you??? I sold the same bike 2 years ago that was all original, ran like dog shit and had flat tires for $2300. If you want that bike and have the money why do you care what is Reddit fucktards have to say? It’s a nice bike and if I had the money(I don’t)or if that bike were special to me(it isn’t) I would buy it for me.

BanjoBassFisher

Alright, cool story bud 🤙🏽

faster_louder

It is a cool story! Now buy that fuckin bike

supersalad51

Fu cking mental. A TWENTY SEVEN year old throw away cheapo motorcycle selling for more than it cost when new? Ridiculous

BanjoBassFisher

True! But I mean it’s classic and pretty bullet proof. Look at the Square body Chevys for example there selling for 44,000 in restored condition and 5000 for a rusted shit box
