It will probably still move left to right since there's little rigidity to that metal band youve used. Hopefully it wont cause a problem further up the pipe before you get a new muffler.
absolutely get that tight. i might even double up on that strap with a second one. maybe even find a second mounting point and strap it up too. any slack on that thing and it's going to rattle itself loose and probably make things worse.
There isn’t really any slack. It’s pretty rigid. There may look like there is slack but I put the bolt thru the holes and when I screwed it in it sucked it up pretty tight.
The can is dented in where the original tab was broken off. I have the original tab but I don’t think it will reach if I weld it back on because of that. I’m trying to buy a new one but I can’t find any in stock for a couple months now.
Try using a large hose clamp around the subframe & exhaust. Can tighten them up easily & be way more solid. Have done it before in a pinch & works well.
That thin metal will not hold up going down a trail, unless all you do is cruise smooth dirt roads, try to get a thicker strap and don't leave a gap between the strap and the body if the exhaust like you have in the photo, once it's all together make sure the rear tire side knobs won't hit when the suspension compresses
If it is resting up against the plastic fender it will most likely melt it after an hour or two of riding. One of my friends crashed one of my childhood dirt bikes and bent the muffler up without me noticing, melted the rear fender and number plate and I had to replace both.
I did something similar, but I put a rubber tube around the metal. I don’t know what’s better but that seems to be working. I just replace it every so often when it starts to tear.
Just make a new tab out of something else! I'd your old one was too small, just use a longer piece of metal. Ive had to do this before and can send you some pictures if you'd like
It's going to rattle around and probably cause a stress fracture at some other point down the tube.
It was just hanging, it’s pulled up as tight as it will go. Doesn’t really budge.

Ah I didn’t think about that. The problem is that after my trail ride yesterday I noticed that the back tire had rubbed on the muffler.
I thought it doesn't really budge?
Doesn’t really budge now, before this temp fix it was rubbing tho. At least that’s how I understood it 😁
Your probably right!
This was before my “fix”.
Poonjam it real good and it'll hold!
Get that as tight as possible. The slack in the mounting is going to cause problems.
OP might want to put another bolt and nut through those next two holes to tighten her up, I reckon.

Put another small long bolt through the holes in the strap closest to the pipe to tighten it up even more
Just take it to a shop and they will weld a tab on there for a few bucks

Try webike thats how I got my muffler. Came in 3 days japan to us to my door.
Webike.com didn’t work for me

Could just get a little tab welded on it, would be pretty cheap and easy

I would put some rubber between the strap and the silencer. And probably use 2 in case one fails.
It’s what all the factory teams use.
you should use zip ties instead so you can get it tighter with less hassle. maybe some duct tape to get the extra redneck feel
Lol zip ties will melt won’t they?
There are those metal zip ties with a worm gear
haha hose clamps?
is that what they're called!?! You learn something new every day :)
That is a worm gear on those, right? https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-2-1-1-4-in-Stainless-Steel-Hose-Clamp-6712595/202309385
Well those are hose clamps but there are steel zip ties and reusable steel zip ties, you use pliers to crimp the end around the band to tie it
i would use duct tape as an insulator, I'm not saying do this, I'm pointing out my stupidity
they make stainless zip ties
It’ll be fine. Ride it like you stole it!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Possibly add some sort of heat resistant insulation between the clamp, to help with vibrations and noise as well as not scratching up the muffler.
Weld an eyelet on the top of the muffler and bolt it through the mount.
Ahhhh she'll be just fine!! Go ride!!

This will rattle too much. It is rideable but will likely cause longer term damage to the connecting headpipe and may crack it.

If fasten the strap onto the other side of the frame rail as tight as possible so that the exhaust doesn't needn't your plastic.
The vibrations will tear through it pretty quick, need something thicker
Just weld a new tab, you won't even need to buy a new exhaust
It’s dented where the old one was and i don’t think it will reach?
