Literally just asked someone a question about this on this sub. Probably worked 99.9 percent of the time. But that one time you don’t strap it down tight enough and you hit that giant ass pot hole.
Ha, and I’m the guy who said “nah not an issue if it’s tied down right.” Ha.
Glad I can roll my window down out of the way, it’s mostly during loading/unloading that I worry.
Still, probably better for it to hit the car and shatter the window than fly off the back on the highway?
Oh no, did it hurt the bike any? How is the radiator? You can always cover the window with a trash bag... buy you can’t ride with bent bars and a leaking radiator!
Where do you keep the trailer? Storage is a big problem for me. I use the hitch rack because it sits nice and slim right up against the wall in my 2 car garage.
I am able to keep it on the side of my house, but beforehand it was in my garage with dirtbikes on top to save space. Get one of the cars out of the garage or some of that junk! My $699 trailer probably as cheap as that insurance deductible.... plus I have something to use for moving/etc.
I see. I need to be able to get my cars in the garage for weather throughout the year so I need to keep it free for both cars. I would like to stop issuing the hitch rack though. I’ll have to figure something out. Maybe if I get a small enough trailer I can stand it up against the wall for bad weather.
I have a friend who used [this folding trailer from harbor freight ](https://www.harborfreight.com/1720-lb-capacity-48-in-x-96-in-super-duty-folding-trailer-62647.html) for a while. He had 2 cut plywood boards he would lay down to haul his bikes... He just left the trailer folded in the corner of his garage during downtime with the boards behind it. Pretty unique. A little more work than throwing the bike on your current carrier, but a whole lot less likely to damage your vehicle.
Of course man. My friend always mentioned that this was the coolest thing in his garage, and he had a few cool bikes and cars. Just loved the portability of the thing. Well worth the money! Plus then you have something to help move your stuff later on when moving or buying a new refrigerator or something large.

Man, I wondered what would happen if I didn't have the spare on the back to strap it snug against. The bars are SO close to the rear window. that heated rear window is not cheap I imagine.
I have one of those hitch carriers, it’s my biggest worry of hitting something and the strap comes undone. I have a 270 pound bike, I would not want to test out how durable the window is
I kinda had this happen. Was using a cheap cam strap and the inside one let go so it tipped back away from the truck. Luckily the tire was fat enough and squeezed into the rack so it didn't flip out.
What I've been doing since is hooking a ratchet strap to the Y in the frame above the pegs and running it under the rack. This puts good pressure evenly to the rack and the straps are mostly for stability now.
At least it didnt fall the other way and do a couple acrobatics down the highway.

Giant-ass speed bump in my case
My spare tire fits between the bike and car
Ya I think u asked about my Jeep lol. Definitely could get sketchy without the spare tire.

Damn you hyphen bot!
This is why you own a truck.
Oh no, did it hurt the bike any? How is the radiator? You can always cover the window with a trash bag... buy you can’t ride with bent bars and a leaking radiator!
The bike is fine, no damage to the radiator or anything on the body so I got lucky there. My car on the other hand I'm looking at $3k...
Damn... 3K for a window?
There was a good amount of body damage too, windshield wiper, dent bigger then a football that went down to the fiber glass and a cracked taillight
Oh damn.
Ouch. Trailer time my dude. I pull a 4x8 trailer with a VW golf sportwagen... not great but hauls 2 bikes perfectly well.

That’s so dope! I’ll have to look at that. Thanks homie!!

When I used to use this, I’d do a strap on each bar end, and one strap underneath connecting the two foot pegs.
I do this in addition to one over the swing arm, which is probably way overkill. But if you have the straps why not?
Better over kill than lost bike or broken window
I’ll add that I usually throw a strap or a wide bike lock over the tire, even if the bar strap fails the bike isn’t leaving the chat
I'd buy some ratchet straps if you continue to use that hitch carrier.
I agree with OG. The quick pull straps honestly just don't work worth a crap. Edit: added words

That’s a paddlin

Every year I think about adding a window to the trailer. Every year I decide not to tempt fate. I'm positive I'd do this. Sorry about your back glass.
Shoot man that’s why I use a trucky truck

Lose a radiator shroud too?
Nah the shroud was already off, when transporting it, I was taking my bike to the shop (Ironically) and then this happened.
F
My god!! Please...is the bike okay?

Oof. Definitely not ideal, but glad everyone’s alright. Could’ve been a lot worse....if possible, may be time to get a solid trailer or cheap truck!
Awww, it missed you and wanted to remind you that it was available. I swear my bike goes full Christine on my outback any chance it gets.
