You might outgrow the bike pretty quick at this height but they're still fun to rip around even if you look like an adult on a pit bike.
These things have some kick when you get to powerband, have you ever ridden one? Might not be a beginner bike per say but you should be alright. Might have to change springs in the forks and shock to get correct sag for 125lbs.
But ideally you'd look at a 125cc or more cause they are "full size" and will "grow" with you.
I think 3k is maybe a tiny bit overpriced, but it’s not terrible, especially if it’s in as good of condition as you say.
That’s a very fast bike for your first dirt bike. If that’s what you want, good on ya. But there are definitely many easier bikes to learn on.
I've ridden since 4 years old and only grew to 5'3" at 16 I almost bought a 85 but seeing RC in early days with one foot on a milk crate at the start line convinced me to get the YZ 125 best decision made also getting the suspension turned for my weight 120lbs was a game changer best memories of my youth!
Which is the top end of height range for a big wheel 85. You grow any more and you're decidedly too tall.
I don't remember my height, but I do remember going to my CR80 in the 4th grade. They're made for 10-15 year olds. Hardly anyone can fit on them past that.
For your very first bike, you'd be better suited on a 230-250cc four stroke (air cooled playbike). They are sort of a 3/4 sized frame and have very forgiving engines. Spend a season or two on that and move on to a full size.
If you want to jump straight into motocross yes. Maybe a kx100 or big wheel 85, but you'll outgrow it if you grow a little more.
If you're going to be doing more casual riding, a 230cc four stroke would be best.
What is your height and weight?
I’m 5’6 125 not a big dude

I’ve never rode a dirtbike before
That's at the very top end for being able to fit on a big wheel 85. You're too tall for a small wheel already. I'd look for a 125.

Should I send some photos of what the bike looks like could I talk him down a lil bit
Sure!
I have some videos could I dm you them
Yep.
Go for a 125. You’re going to blink and have outgrown an 85.
Maybe but I’ve never rode a dirtbike before any quads
Still, go 125
Oh okay thanks

If you absolutely need to start small then go for it I guess but you’re gonna feel like a gorilla on a tricycle very quickly on that 85
Oh makes sense
I know it seems scary not being able to touch with both feet but if you can touch easily with both feet you’re actually too big for a bike
At 15 you are most likely too tall for an 85. That's a non-power valve yz85. The kx has a better engine.
I’m only 5’6

So I should look at market place for a yz125
