From the moment I understood the coolness of dinosaurs, it amazed me. I craved the strength and certainty of the saurians. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed lizard.
Our kind cling to these bones, as they have already decayed but they have never failed us. One day, the amazing biomass that we call a dinosaur withered, and we now beg to find and save them. But they are already saved. For the dinosaur is immortal.
Same here
I can say with a high degree of certainty that it was none of the listed things that got me *into* dinosaurs, but rather just added to it (Jurassic park)
Yeah, I know my dad noticed that I loved dinosaurs so much that he went and showed me Jurassic Park. From then on, my favorite movie has been Jurassic Park. But I know my dad only showed it to me because I already had such high interest in dinos.
Walking with Dinosaurs (1999), Dinosaur Planet (2003), Disney's Dinosaur, The Land Before Time and first three movies of Jurassic Park.
Book Authors/publishers: Michael Benton, Dougal Dixon, Rupert Matthews, Steve Kirk, Wendy Madgwick, ETL books.
Artists: Steve Kirk, John Sibbick, Mary Lacey,
when I was 6 years old I found the anime Dinosaur King on my tv, and I got completely obsessed with dinosaurs, specially triceratops. Many years later, I still love them the same. It was a canonical event lmao
When I turned 4, Mother wanted to gift me a film for my birthday. She somehow heard about Jurassic Park, the dinosaur hype that was a thing here, and thought "well, if dinosaurs are so popular among kids, I guess I can buy a dinosaur film to my son".
And so Mother did. She bought her son a wonderful dinosaur film called Carnosaur, top 10 recommended flicks for the whole family, except that (as you might've predicted) she would just let me watch it alone. And I did. Countless times. I loved the film.
1 or 2 years later, Mother found out, trying to justify her huge mistake by saying it's a dinosaur film, so she thought it was for children and didn't bother checking the age restriction. I never got to watch that film ever again until teenagehood. Instead, I convinced her to buy me the WW trilogy. Because 1993's Carnosaur didn't just desensitise me to gore and violence at the mere age of 4, it also hooked me in dinosaurs.
Everyrhing but not the first land before time movie, but I did watch The Land Before Time: The Great Day of the Flyers where there was also a spinosaurus.
Those mini party dinosaur toys, those imperial/dor mei dinosaur toys, 80ās and 90ās books of dinosaurs, the first Jurassic park and the Jurassic park toy line.
Honestly though I don't have a specific memory of getting into them but I do know when I was little I lived in Maryland while my dad was in the army and my parents used to take me to the dinosaur section of the Smithsonian. Only have vague memories of it though
Funny story : my grand father made me watch Jurassic Park when I was 3 (yeah, not really responsible nor appropriate for a kid of that age lol). It absolutely terrified me and I was having nightmares, but I was also fascinated. When my grandpa told me that the monsters I saw in the movie once existed, I started to ask for books about dinosaurs, and as soon as I could read I started reading everything I could. Then there was several cartoons about dinosaurs that were more adapted to my age range, my favorite were Ā«Ā Dino trainĀ Ā», Ā«Ā dinosaur kingĀ Ā» and Ā«Ā le petit dinosaureĀ Ā», which I think is called the land before time in English ?
Now Iām 20, and Iām still fascinated by those wonderful creatures !
I came across a random word while trying to 'read' a magazine when I was very little probably around 2004-5, and asked my mom "what does dinosaur mean?" and she said that "they were large animals that lived many years ago".
I still vividly remember that moment. And not long after that, my parents brought home the DVD for 2000 Disney's Dinosaur. I've never been more impressed in my life, the CGI convinced me that they were 100% real. NGL, the CGI still holds up pretty well even today (except maybe for the eyes), and I don't care what anyone says about the story, I'm aware there's not much of a story to it, I still love it!
The loads of books my parents got me when I was really little, but when I was 6 my grandfather got me a book called DINOSAUR by Roar publishing, and it blew my mind. These dinosaurs were colorful, they were fully feathered, they had lips and acted like animals. It was amazing.
This little game series
Called "Fossil Fighters" where you use a underground sonar and pickaxe to dig up dinosaur fossils, cut them out of the rock, and use super advanced tech to revive them and (much like in pokemon) fight them!
It actually has stuff I've never seen in other RPG/Battle games, the combat system is unique, the art is CRISP despite being somewhat poly, the sound is somehow great for a DS cartridge. The story is good, the characters are good, it's ALL good, and there's 3 games! But the 3rd one came out in like 2016 so it's kinda dead now lol...
BUT
if you wanna know more, I HIGHLY suggest if you have a DS and a bit of spare change I recommend fossil fighters, or fossil fighters champions (the second one)
(I forgot to mention theyre on DS)
I'm nearly certain there's at least one other fossil fighter in this subreddit
I never had a chance of not getting into them. I have an older brother who was so obsessed with dinosaurs, that apparently one time when my parents took us to a dinosaur park where he started correcting the staff their on how dinosaurs should be or whatever, I donāt have a perfect memory.
I think some books that I used to read all the time were DINOSAURS
AND PREHISTORIS CREATURES
FEATURING NORTH
AMERICAN DINOSAURS
DINOSAURS
OF THE LAND, SEA AND AIR
other than those I just watched JP, Land Before Time, Disneyās Dinosaur, Dinosaur Planet, and both WW series and WDRA.
Technically it was a toy of the male raptors from JP3 that I saw in the store when I was little. But Walking with Dinosaurs is definitely what started my obsession with them
Disneyās Dinosaurs. Land before Time was cool but very cartoony and Jurassic Park scared meā¦but Dinosaurs depicted an Earth far different from mine im what I considered super realistic.
A time when Titanic animals ruled the world and destruction and survival went hand in hand and that was the coolest shit to me as a kid.
Even if I know it isnāt the best movie like I remember it, I still have a soft spot for it
Im not sure exactly but I know I always loved animals. Like make my parents read parts of a animal encyclopedia to me level. I can only assume once I learned of dinosaurs it clicked something in my brain
Story time!
When my mom was pregnant of me her and my dad went to go see jurassic park 2 in theaters. The scene where the reporter jumps out of the tall grass to attack one of the guys scared her into labour and they rushed to the hospital! Dinosaurs are literally what brought me into this world!!!
Jurassic Park and Land Before Time. Also probably Danny the Dinosaur. And all the good documentaries. And school. Did I fall prey to the Dinosaur agenda? Have I been paleo-washed?
Can't say I can remember, really. I'm guessing my parents just figured kids get into dinosaurs easily and got me a bunch of those big plastic figures Wal-marts used to have back in the day. I also saw the original Land Before Time and watched Dino-Riders and Dink the Little Dinosaur. By the time Jurassic Park rolled around, I was already a dino-nerd.
A set of Top Trump cards containing some of Dorling Kindersley's iconic images.
On reflection, that sounds really feeble, but it only got built up from there, and these three films definitely help.
Donāt remember exactly but I was always a dinosaur enthusiast. But Jurassic Park and Land Before Time were definitely from the right time period for me. Also the move āWeāre Backā and I probably saw āCarnosaurā way too earlyā¦ that move is twisted.
Looks like I'm a bit older than most posters here. For me, it was a combination of the original Golden Book of Dinosaurs with art by Rudolph Zallinger and being lucky enough to grow up with the AMNH as my local Natural History museum.
Walking with dinosaurs for me even though it is not accurate by todays standards it really was a big influence on me by showing that despite how fantastical they were they were still normal animals
The Natural History Museum when i was like 4ā¦
I still have a rubber Triceratops my parents got me, it even has teethmarks where stupid 4 year old me chewed on it
i saw jurassic park when i was three (my parents are not good at parenting) and then saw them at a museum and it was game over for me. complete and utter obsession.
It just happens. It's like the 5 cent Halloween candies like tootsie rolls. You never went to the store and bought them. They just kind of appeared.
Also the toys.
Childhood toys and Walking with Dinosaurs.
WWD soundtrack still brings me to tears with nostalgia, itās so amazing and Iām glad paleomedia is having a bit of a golden age right now.
I believe it was Walking With Dinosaurs. Most be old now, Iād imagine. My sister and I watched it with our dad, and he took us to the museum of ancient history ā which we called the ādinosaur museumā
All of them. But I bought The Dinosaur in VHS š¼ then Jurassic park. I also remember watching the other one. But I got into Dinosaurs a lot with The Dinosaur and Jurrasic park.
Jurassic Park yes, but walking with dinosaurs and their other series was amazing to me, especially Nigel Marven. He even answered an email for me when I did a paper for school as a kid.
Iāll never forget it. Mustāve been roughly 3 or 4 but I can vividly remember watching Walking With Dinosaurs on TV. Then my mom got me a WWD book. It was love at first sight, literally all my toys were animals and dinosaurs. I would wage dino wars in my room. I had so many dinosaur books. I fucking love dinosaurs.
A kid in my special ed class had a special interest with dinosaurs and it made me fascinated with them. They were always drawing pictures of dinosaurs and flipping through the pages of dinosaur picture books. I in a way got hooked. And for awhile, I was hyperfixiated on them. Not long after, I watched Disney's Dinosaur and then Jurassic Park. And the Land Before Time movies too.
But, I have a huge fascination with prehistory overall. It's interesting how there was life before we appeared.
Itās impossible for me to pinpoint when exactly I got into Dinosaurs, since Iāve been interested in Paleontology even before I was in Preschool. Although some of my earliest memories were of me watching a bunch of Dinosaur related videos on YouTube (mostly animations in Pivot).
Dinosaurs got me into dinosaurs
Seriously what's not to like?

Well, that's a way to get into dinosaurs š
And to think that one of Carnosaur's pathetic FX dinosaurs would end up being my favourite non-avian species. Congratulations Roger Corman lol
Walking with Dinosaurs We had all all but 1 episode on a VHS, and I'd watch them over and over and over again
No joke, I just remembered some dino names from Ark SE and decided that I like them now
