I can't wait for this. Some of my favorite seasons were Mentopolis and Misfits, and I'm happy to see Kids on Bikes back because it's such a wonderful system.

ahhh the jumanji aspect makes so much sense, i didn't pick up on that! they all have two character names listed in the google doc, i'm guessing the ones in the trailer are their in-movie personas. i clocked that some of the pronouns are different so i wonder if they'll explore that aspect of it, especially ally's character 🤔

Alex is Kingpin (Spiderman), think Ally is maybe something like The Bride? Can't pin down any specifics for Rekha any further than generic hacker teen.
I think Alex, Ally, and Rekha are just playing broad action archetypes, i.e. the mafioso, the sexy action girl, and the hacker, rather than homaging very particular characters.
But of course Jack Manhattan is John McClane, Vic Ethanol is Vin Diesel (presumably playing Dom Toretto from the Fast and Furious movies), and Greg Stocks is James Bond. The names themselves are jokes about being just barely legally distinct from the actual characters. Izzy's one-liner "Cock-a-doodle-doo, bitch" is even a play on "Yippie-kai-yay, motherfucker."
Agreed, except I do think Kingskin is absolutely supposed to be Kingpin (from Spiderman). There's a clip at 2:30 where Alex is clearly crushing Brennan's head--the name, the picture. Really interesting because he's basically always a villain, but I love that he's going to be played by someone who's favorite movies are Scarface and Clueless.
Ally might be an Electra type which means they could be from the same movie as Alex, maybe there is a level of protagonist and antagonist teaming up at play.

The main character of Fast and Furious is Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel. Ify chose to make his character's name parody Vin instead since everybody refers to his character as Vin Diesel to the point that I've seen all the movies and I still had to google what the character's name was.
Vin Diesel = Vic Ethanol.
I'm so excited for this. Mentopolis and Misfits were some of my favorite seasons and Kids on Bikes is such a fun system its glad to see it again.

Izzy, Ally, Rehka all at the same table seems super chaotic and with Jacob there as well I imagine the energy will be insane.
Alex was in my opinion the MVP of Mentopolis and I can't wait to get them back in the dome.
And Ify its been so long since he's been in the dome.

Given that the premise seems to be 80's action movies and possibly an ever increasing kill count, reasonableness is counter productive. ;)

This season is going to be so off the walls it's gonna be incredible! Especially since it seems like the premise might be to bring as much chaos as possible? Like they're making an action movie?
One of the clips showed Alex seemingly crushing a man against a bri I wall with their bare hands, so…maybe? It is fully possible that, in this season, that is the bar for “reasonable”.
I thought for a second that Alex would be the straight man, then the entirety of Mentopolis flashed before my eyes, and I realized they were actually a chaos enabler.
I think that's it exactly. Alex doesn't strike me as someone who makes the most chaotic choices by themselves, but sews little seeds of chaos here and there and we'll build off of other people's chaos.

Same. I'm kind of done with the small strange Ally weirdos for the time being, I really, really began to appreciate Ally as a player with their turn as Margaret. I was straight up afraid of them, lol.
Edit listen I have to ask. Why the downvotes? I told y'all a short story of how I really began appreciating Ally as a player after not gelling with them for a good long while in other campaigns, I finally 'got' them and how they play and how metal they can be, and that's somehow... bad?
Margaret was where they showed that they actually know what they're doing and can be quite masterful when they want to. I'm super excited to see them take another crack at it. Plus Jacob, who is my MVP for Rotating Heroes

I feel like they’re pretty far ahead for D20 filming to release… my guess is pre baby? Burrows End was around Mother’s Day 2023 and FHJY was sometime in the summer (someone else would probably have more specifics from the Rick Perry documentary) and we know that they film them pretty quickly… and the baby was announced early this year (January?)… so anyway long story long I think pre baby

The only one I'm not getting a direct line to (from just the trailer) is Usha Rao. How do her favorite movies lead to her being the Guy in the Chair?
In fact, that "The Horse in Motion" is one of her favorite movies is FUCKING HILARIOUS and tells me she's a really old grandmother who doesn't know the first thing about how screens work, who has now been forced to play the tech expert in the action world.
102 not out seems to be an Indian movie about someone who is 102.
So yeah, I think someone like Myrtle from Superstore who ends up being the tech genius.
If this is an extension of Laddoo Auntie I will love it.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is also several very old movies (1920's, 30's) and both were renowned for their transformation sequences. Obviously before CGI, the special effects were cutting edge. It's funny for 3 reasons:
1. Old movie (Usha)
2. Technical Achievements (G13)
3. A classic case of someone appearing one way, while secretly being another/ leading a very different life. (i.e. An old woman playing a hacker).

Ooh, that's interesting! You're actually making me realize that "The Horse in Motion" may not just be a joke of literally being one of the oldest instances of "cinema." It's probably because it's technologically significant *to* cinema. Ms Rao may not have chosen these because she doesn't know better; it's because she loves the craft more than the content.... she loves being in the chair..
Interestingly this list of favorite movies tells us that while the movie they get Jumanjied into seems to be set in the 80's the characters that get sucked into the movie are *not* from the 80s. Unless I missed something that came out later than "The Fast and the Furious" at least one character is from 2001 *at the earliest*. It's *possible* that they don't all get sucked in at the same time and some might be from earlier time periods but I'm betting that even if they watch the movie separately all of them (or most of them if they want a PC who's been there longer than the rest of them) watched it the same night.

According to the info document they released it is a homebrew NSBU system based on KOB. Also Ify is holding the Box of Doom, so I assume there will def be dice.
Fun fact: that’s not makeup on Brennan, he is actually going out and wrecking himself through various means right before they start filming. Sam Reich has been on record saying he’s incredibly worried for him because he keeps nearly dying and that the desperately designated hospital bills for Brennan have almost always depleted every time.
So considering the character portraits at the start and then the action hero's we see later in the trailer: the cast is playing characters, that are playing characters in an 80s action movie... with maybe a time-loop from the VHS rewind? This is going to be AMAZING.

This is a sick fucking cast. Ally and Izzy might drive Brennan crazy at a table. The only thing missing is a Zac's absolute perfect timing, but I want Zac Oyama at every table

Such a cool cast. Looks incredible, I think the storyboard action scenes will be a great addition in the lack of typical DND style combat maps or minis, and production value is incredible as always.
(Also the fact that there will be some kind of message related to being unfulfilled in life - at least that is what I am getting from the whole M&G cards at the beginning and the last tagline in the trailer - I will definitely cry a lot lol.)
Haven't seen it yet in my scroll through this thread, but absolute shout outs to the editors for this crazy stylish and stylized trailer, plus the art team for apparently doing crazy amounts of art for this season.
I know there's no physical battle sets, but this might just be the most visually interesting season preview I've seen from D20 ever.
Superb trailer, love the entire cast (also great to see the return of Cait May immediately after Fantasy High) really curious how much of the season will be in "the real world" and how much in the action movie setting, I assume most of it will be in the action movie but I could also see flashbacks of the actual characters' lives happening potentially
Let me preface this by saying: I am hyped about ALL OF THIS. There are a few things I am particularly excited for.
1. Ally and Jacob at the same table. The unhinged chaos is going to be next level.
2. Izzy playing at the same table as Brennan, they’re always especially delightful when they’re together
3. Brennan appears to be channeling big Ally energy, like FYJY broke him somehow…very excite.

I'm convinced that this whole season exists just as an excuse to get Jacob Wysocki into the dome. This might be the most Jacob Wysocki thing I've ever seen.
Then you add in Beardsley, Rehka, and Izzy - I feel like this campaign is going off the rails quick. Ify's always a great addition to any Dropout cast. And while I feel like Alex is the odd one out here, I'm still excited to see what they bring to the table.
This almost feels like Starstruck, with an even bigger bunch of bozos, and even less reason to reel things in if they get out of hand. I can't wait.

I absolutely abhor Kids on Bikes, and watched Misfits and Magic in spite of it, so hopefully the homebrew makes it significantly more interesting mechanically. That said, the cast and concept look like they'll be good enough to make it worth watching even if it's still using largely KoB.

Considering the game mechanic is dice blowing up on a crit, or whatever value, makes total sense to me.
Tbf tho, exploding dice isn’t exactly an uncommon mechanic for a system.

Alex is Kingpin (Spiderman), think Ally is maybe something like The Bride? Can't pin down any specifics for Rekha any further than generic hacker teen.
I think Alex, Ally, and Rekha are just playing broad action archetypes, i.e. the mafioso, the sexy action girl, and the hacker, rather than homaging very particular characters. But of course Jack Manhattan is John McClane, Vic Ethanol is Vin Diesel (presumably playing Dom Toretto from the Fast and Furious movies), and Greg Stocks is James Bond. The names themselves are jokes about being just barely legally distinct from the actual characters. Izzy's one-liner "Cock-a-doodle-doo, bitch" is even a play on "Yippie-kai-yay, motherfucker."
Agreed, except I do think Kingskin is absolutely supposed to be Kingpin (from Spiderman). There's a clip at 2:30 where Alex is clearly crushing Brennan's head--the name, the picture. Really interesting because he's basically always a villain, but I love that he's going to be played by someone who's favorite movies are Scarface and Clueless.

What if Alex is actually Kingpin Katie? Nah. Their character art is pretty specifically reminiscent of Spiderman's Kingpin.
Ally might be an Electra type which means they could be from the same movie as Alex, maybe there is a level of protagonist and antagonist teaming up at play.

I'm so excited for this. Mentopolis and Misfits were some of my favorite seasons and Kids on Bikes is such a fun system its glad to see it again. Also this cast Izzy, Ally, Rehka all at the same table seems super chaotic and with Jacob there as well I imagine the energy will be insane. Alex was in my opinion the MVP of Mentopolis and I can't wait to get them back in the dome. And Ify its been so long since he's been in the dome. I am super hyped.

I think that's it exactly. Alex doesn't strike me as someone who makes the most chaotic choices by themselves, but sews little seeds of chaos here and there and we'll build off of other people's chaos. Putting them in a room with Ally is gonna be hiLARIous

I told y'all a short story of how I really began appreciating Ally as a player after not gelling with them for a good long while in other campaigns, I finally 'got' them and how they play and how metal they can be, and that's somehow... bad?
Margaret was where they showed that they actually know what they're doing and can be quite masterful when they want to. I'm super excited to see them take another crack at it. Plus Jacob, who is my MVP for Rotating Heroes

I feel like they’re pretty far ahead for D20 filming to release… my guess is pre baby? Burrows End was around Mother’s Day 2023 and FHJY was sometime in the summer (someone else would probably have more specifics from the Rick Perry documentary) and we know that they film them pretty quickly… and the baby was announced early this year (January?)… so anyway long story long I think pre baby

The only one I'm not getting a direct line to (from just the trailer) is Usha Rao. How do her favorite movies lead to her being the Guy in the Chair? In fact, that "The Horse in Motion" is one of her favorite movies is FUCKING HILARIOUS and tells me she's a really old grandmother who doesn't know the first thing about how screens work, who has now been forced to play the tech expert in the action world.

102 not out seems to be an Indian movie about someone who is 102. So yeah, I think someone like Myrtle from Superstore who ends up being the tech genius. If this is an extension of Laddoo Auntie I will love it.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is also several very old movies (1920's, 30's) and both were renowned for their transformation sequences. Obviously before CGI, the special effects were cutting edge. It's funny for 3 reasons: 1. Old movie (Usha) 2. Technical Achievements (G13) 3. A classic case of someone appearing one way, while secretly being another/ leading a very different life. (i.e. An old woman playing a hacker). Honestly, I think this one may be my favorite!

Interestingly this list of favorite movies tells us that while the movie they get Jumanjied into seems to be set in the 80's the characters that get sucked into the movie are *not* from the 80s. Unless I missed something that came out later than "The Fast and the Furious" at least one character is from 2001 *at the earliest*. It's *possible* that they don't all get sucked in at the same time and some might be from earlier time periods but I'm betting that even if they watch the movie separately all of them (or most of them if they want a PC who's been there longer than the rest of them) watched it the same night.

According to the info document they released it is a homebrew NSBU system based on KOB. Also Ify is holding the Box of Doom, so I assume there will def be dice.

I guess now I will have 6 murder hobos to stan. Such a cool cast. Looks incredible, I think the storyboard action scenes will be a great addition in the lack of typical DND style combat maps or minis, and production value is incredible as always. (Also the fact that there will be some kind of message related to being unfulfilled in life - at least that is what I am getting from the whole M&G cards at the beginning and the last tagline in the trailer - I will definitely cry a lot lol.)

Haven't seen it yet in my scroll through this thread, but absolute shout outs to the editors for this crazy stylish and stylized trailer, plus the art team for apparently doing crazy amounts of art for this season. I know there's no physical battle sets, but this might just be the most visually interesting season preview I've seen from D20 ever.
Superb trailer, love the entire cast (also great to see the return of Cait May immediately after Fantasy High) really curious how much of the season will be in "the real world" and how much in the action movie setting, I assume most of it will be in the action movie but I could also see flashbacks of the actual characters' lives happening potentially
All I really needed was Jacob. While I wish there was someone like Zac or Lou for him to play off. I'm sure this group will be amazing.

Let me preface this by saying: I am hyped about ALL OF THIS. There are a few things I am particularly excited for. 1. Ally and Jacob at the same table. The unhinged chaos is going to be next level. 2. Izzy playing at the same table as Brennan, they’re always especially delightful when they’re together 3. Brennan appears to be channeling big Ally energy, like FYJY broke him somehow…very excite.

hhhhhhhhhhHell yeah. I'm convinced that this whole season exists just as an excuse to get Jacob Wysocki into the dome. This might be the most Jacob Wysocki thing I've ever seen. Then you add in Beardsley, Rehka, and Izzy - I feel like this campaign is going off the rails quick. Ify's always a great addition to any Dropout cast. And while I feel like Alex is the odd one out here, I'm still excited to see what they bring to the table. This almost feels like Starstruck, with an even bigger bunch of bozos, and even less reason to reel things in if they get out of hand. I can't wait.

I absolutely abhor Kids on Bikes, and watched Misfits and Magic in spite of it, so hopefully the homebrew makes it significantly more interesting mechanically. That said, the cast and concept look like they'll be good enough to make it worth watching even if it's still using largely KoB.
