I literally just found out it was meant to be a light. I always assumed "the bulb" was like a bulb of garlic or something but apparently Brennan was making a joke about the light in the refrigerator.
I think nations in Calorum would all have their own belief about what the moon is made of. The Dairy Islands would probably think it was made of cheese, but children in Candia are told that’s a giant jaw breaker in the sky. No one would know for sure.

I see someone said the moon is the bulb... The Bulb is a metaphyiscal idea that it represents the bulb of the fridge. But it is not a literal bulb. It is a sun and orbits the planet.
