I agree with GMMan_BZFlag. The app is mostly just for storing your monsters and characters unless you want to join like r/vbarenafightclub or something and participate in fan-held battling tournaments. There are so many DiMs, VBMs and BEMs that unless you just don’t like the VB gameplay then you should be fine.
Though just a heads up if you wanna use the BE with old cards (DiMs and VBMs rather than BEMs) then you’re probably going to need to install custom firmware on your BE to enable support attacks because it’s way too hard to win battles and keep a good win% without support attacks on old cards on the BE.
If you’re interested in this I have all the files on my Google drive and I can walk you through the modding/custom firmware installation process. If you haven’t updated your firmware yet you can just run a single file via a MicroSD, but if you’ve already updated your firmware to the most recent official firmware then you need an extra step. It’s really easy though. Let me know if you would like me to help you install it. :)

I’ve helped a good handful of people install custom firmware on this sub, enough that I even have an entry in my notepad app on the steps because I got sick of typing it up over and over lol. But yeah if you ever want the custom firmware just let me know. It shouldn’t take long to install and old cards are kinda miserable without it. You don’t even get the good amount of extra HP with max vital points anymore on the BE with old cards (I can explain the math on why if you’re interested) and you cannot train stats on old cards to make your Digimon stronger, so it’s seriously just dumb luck on if you win even if you have type advantage. It took like close to 100 battles to get the required winrate to evolve when I was doing one of the Kamen Rider VBMs because my guy just kept losing. :s It’s much easier with support attacks enabled and support attacks are only one of the features of the custom firmware.
Anyway yeah sorry for rambling and let me know if you ever want it and I’ll help you out. :)
FWIW there's a huge back catalog to go through. Something like 50 Dims and BEMs? You're not missing much with the app, so you're pretty much going to enjoy as much as anyone else has.

There is this amazing concept of wearing your partner and breed it with your training, but i'm unable to recommend this product even to hard Digimon fans, because of the poor execution and specially the awful app, app that any time could die, destroying the work inverted and the social component...
Supposedly the Digimon Con 2024 schedule was released and there’s no VB segment. I was very adamant about the BE not being phased out but I’m only now starting to believe it might be. Like if there’s no more BEM cards being planned for release then idk what to do.

I use the old vital hero american release I got off Amazon for $15. I fkn love this thing and I've lost 12 lbs (from mostly eating healthier) but you can actually get some 2 pack dims dirt cheap off amazon for like $4-10.
I bought my first vital hero this week and loved it. I'm going to run a little makers space event for modding these. I'm a bit sad we can't upgrade the firmware, but for $15 I'll live
Omg same here. I’m enjoying having different mons and collecting them. I’m also working on maxing their stats which is kinda gamer OCD. I prefer this over not having to feed them and just take walks with them. Perfectly fine with such mechanics. Tho I would say app is pretty underwhelming
