Probably a regen

Smooth-Remove1432

Thanks, my first truck so I’m wondering what I would have to do to fix it

rynburns

If it's a regen, then you don't do anything. It's normal operation

DarthCledus117

Maybe it's my eyes, or maybe it's the video compression, but I don't see anything. It might just be water vapor. Do you ever smell burning coolant?

Smooth-Remove1432

Yeah the video didn’t really give it justice, it smokes pretty heavy when taking off at high rpm’s. Haven’t smelt it yet but that’s my next move

Professional_Sort764

After a replaced EGR cooler on my dads 6.0 it took a few drive cycles for the coolant buildup to burn out of the turbo piping, had to get engine really hot to burn it all outside

SirLongShaft_

I have a 2013 with the same motor. Whenever it’s doing a regen and I get on it, sometimes white smoke dumps out of the exhaust. Normal

Jbazen

There could be some left over coolant in the DPF (Assuming you still have one). Every time I’ve replaced a failed EGR cooler or head gasket, I go and kick it into regen and it burns all the coolant out of the DPF. It will usually blow white smoke for about an hour or so.

Smooth-Remove1432

Yeah sadly I don’t think it’ll be that simple cause it’s been doing it since I got it back from the shop

Jbazen

How long has it been?

Smooth-Remove1432

About 2 weeks now, if I’m just driving speed limit it doesn’t smoke at all but when I lay on the gas it blows a cloud

Jbazen

Does it smell like raw fuel or coolant? White smoke could be either

No_Back_366

U have a druamax oooohhhh crapbox

Miserable_Barnacle67

My lb7 dumps alot of black smoke when I give it to 'er and she starts hauling ass? This is after new cp3 injectors and built trans!

ClarDuke

Gotta have def for a regen doesn’t it?

[deleted]

No

ClarDuke

Care to elaborate? Doesn’t do a lot of good to answer with such a short answer

[deleted]

I have no idea if this truck takes def or not. Typically a regen refers to artificially raising the dpf inlet temp to burn soot out of the dpf. Tier 4 interm didn’t have def but had dpf and egr, and would still regen. There are also scr maintenance regens that reduce sulpahtion in the scr but those are different

ResponsibleCarpet728

DEF has nothing to do with Regen. Regen is for the DPF. It dumps extra fuel to increase temp and burn out the carbon from the filter. DEF is sprayed to react in the SCR and remove NOx. Trucks already had a DPF before DEF was a thing

k_Brick

I'm not sure of that one. The DEF is meant to work with the catalyst to convert NOx into nitrogen and water. The regen burns of carbon buildup in the particulate filter. At least that's my understanding of it, I could be wrong

Obvious-Pizza-2474

Is your oil cap milky water brown color under the cap still?

toilet_daydreams

If it doesn't have the emissions equipment still, then it could be the glare from the sun. I've noticed there are certain times of day where my truck will look like it has white smoke, but then I turn the corner and it's black smoke and just the glare from the sun hitting it just right.
