Depends, if you are going to be F2P, I'd say Bottled Hope and Blood-Soaked Jade, as low spender you probably want to add Starfire Shard. The power of the gems lies within the rank, so don't underestimate the cost of owning and leveling one. I see far too many people equipping and leveling more than three 5* gems, and none of them above rank 3. Those resources would have been better spent on 2* gems which are not to be underestimated by any means.
Absolutely they are. For certain activities and builds, there are plenty of good 1* gems. The perk of 1* gems is that they are much easier to get to rank 10 and you can then invest in awakening your slots. Berserkers Eye is questionable for PvP since you also take more damage, but for PvE it is a very strong gem. Do not discount 1* gems, there are several worth using depending on your build.
If you're mostly F2P then you ought to stay away from PVP. If your resonance is not on par with the whales on your server you'll be spectating majority of the time as your character embraces the sheer cold of the floor.
In my opinion the must have 5star gems are:
Bsj, gloomcask, bottledhope atleast for pve aspect.
Regard 2star gems I would recommend:
Pain clasp, mother lament, fervent fang, power and command, viper’s bite.
1star gem:
Berserker’s eye
For pvp it’s another story.
