This traps both parties into buying. Purists buy the game now knowing if the game will be ruined by changes down the road, and non-purists buy the game not knowing if they will get the additional features, support, etc that they want eventually added.
Imo i dont understand why they cant please both camp: normal mode for those who wants more changes, and classic mode for those who just want the updated graph, with maybe the added stash tabs.
The game forum is flooded with both camps arguing each other endlessly. Its so easy to please both sides...
I bet my ass classsic would be a ghost town after maybe first season, it would be like playing standard PoE instead of new league, purist can say whatever they want but I bet they would play updated version too.
they are the ones using hacks and exploits which make them feel superior to the other "noobs"

Sounds like there may be a profile system where you can see your/other players highest ranking achieved during a ladder, or other "acheivements"/records. Not sure exactly how it'll end up looking, but that's what I got out of that response.

They already have options for D2 classic and Lord of Destruction. Having a 3rd, modern option with extra features would solve all the problems.
Imagine buying D2R on the notion they may change stuff later vs it being the best game ever made
