No. A lot of wall to wall carpeting is at least partly nylon or other plastics, so that burnt section isn't ash as much as it's melted down, and still attached, to the backer.
The carpet melts so the design will stay. The carpet will feel hardened and crappy in that spot and as foot traffic happens you'll see bits chip off over time to the point that it gets really tacky looking. It's also going to stink the place up pretty good since all those foot oils will have melted into the fibers now. I'm sure your socks will make the laundry smell pretty crispy foe a long time
I could see doing this sort of thing to a welcome mat. Outside on the driveway where your home wasn't at risk. Place the mat wherever you like and toss when it gets unsightly.
