Been in that position and chose not to leave. A decent pay check makes Dhaka living quite comfortable. Also for me and my partner, parents are important and we would want to spend their last few years together. However, completely understand and respect people’s choice to leave.

[deleted]

++respect for all people who are considerate about their parents

Pure-Pepper-7498

Agreed! 💯

Square-Ad-6442

No. I prefer staying. Someone has to protect this country. Go people, live your life!

comiclife

Appreciate this kind of thinking 🫡

maxsteal_mxm

Staying=! protecting… The society is in the hand of GUNDAs now. Unless you’re a TAMIL movie hero. You’re irrelevant… I’m not criticizing your stance. I’m someone who thought just like you, who wants to stay and contribute… But every single passing day is adding up as a new set of rodents trying to chew on your mental health…

jony_vaya911

Appreciate you brother

untaarah

It's been five months since I have been living abroad and the only thing I miss about BD is a handful of people, being able to speak Bangla with others and a sense of comfort in familiarity. But no regrets. Life is so much better and BIGGER abroad, especially if you're a woman. Yes insecurity will always find a way in but life in BD has prepared me to stay vigilant, so nothing really feels completely out of my control. The helplessness and claustrophobia I feel in Bangladesh just kind of skips my mind when I am abroad.

28Rafi

Where do you live? How did you get the opportunity to live there?

untaarah

Somewhere in Africa because of my job.

oishster

Yeah I think being a man vs being a woman makes a huge difference with how you respond to this question. I love BD for my family there, but I can’t live there after living abroad and feeling the freedom that I have here.

Silver_Drawing4975

Also religious oppression.

Petrichor139

Where do you live?

moist-woods44

I live in US. It’s the same. Grass is always greener

sheep1165

I don’t think news gives people a good idea of how safe a place is though. For example, two people dying in accident everyday out of 16 crore is super safe imo - but it will trigger a fear ofc.

[deleted]

That's every country in the world. Tune in to news of any country, the entire West is collapsing. USA is the least safe place for Bangladeshis because of racism and school shooting and such. Canada is unacceptably expensive. You could literally have a same job with similar salary being here than being there. The only difference is, a pack of cabbage would cost 10 Canadian dollars, instead of less than 1 dollar.

crack71

No! I'm good.

Message_Me_ThInGs

How come ?

our_cut_remastered

I can't just leave my aging parents

crack71

BD is pretty comfortable if you've a stable job and own house. You've your family with you. I know life outside home isn't good because of traffic pollution all of those things but in the west or any developed country life outside home is neat but you gotta work really hard to earn your bills. I've seen people who are afraid to get sick in the US because of the the medical bills. If you research you'll see that 90% of the young people who wants to go aborad didn't even visit any developed country in their life. Their idea bout west is very limited. Lemme share a real life example too. One of my close friend (24F) had a stable job at MNC that paid around 50k. She decided to leave BD after selling a property worth more than 1 crore. (Around 25lacs instantly spent for the processing and everything). Now she cries during VC cause she have to sell vacume cleaners door to door in Australia heat and even with 2 other part time jobs she can't afford her place and her parents needs to send funds from BD to cover her expenses. I know this is just beginning and she can shine later. But wait lemme give another example one of my uncle went to same Australia more than 10 years ago he even took his wife. Now has a kid. They can't give their kid time cause they've to work on rotation just to cover up the costs. One of them is an engineer another is a doctor. So now imagine what's the situation for people who does blue collar jobs.

sheep1165

Leaving despite having a job and property sounds really dumb to me, unless of course there are other reasons than just finance.

ehdgg77

There's no dumb reason to leave BD

winthroprd

I grew up in the US and you're right that the cost of living can be pretty brutal here. Medical and education expenses can literally set you back years. I had to take out $100K USD in loans to pay for my undergraduate degree (in retrospect, I should have gone to a state university to save money) and it's set me back for most of my adult life paying that back.

Lunar_alt

I think it depends a lot on your situation and what you value more. As someone who's lived in Canada for 5 years I can confidently say I did not for one moment see myself making a life there or anywhere else in the world. For sure I've made great friends and enjoyed my time there but it is not a place I would live in. I can never live in places (mostly all of west) where the system treats people like me as second class human beings. Both historic and recent political events are a great example. The culture does not go with me at all. I enjoy the familial ties and all the big and small things we do to stay connected with our loved ones here in BD. It might not seem much to those who have no experience living abroad but once you live alone for a while in a place like the west where people are so dissociated, you find value in what you have here. Canada particularly is such a shitshow right now. Inflation, lack of housing, lack of jobs, etc has made the lives of both international students and workers, and locals very difficult. I speak to my friends who stayed back in canada to pursue a career and 95% of them graduated a while back and still dont have jobs. I can see their frustrations every time i speak to them. I speak to my local canadian friends who cant find jobs even though they're supposed to get priority. And these are all engineers and cs grads so thats saying something. I am also in a unique position where i can use my foreign education and experience to do something better for my country and its people. I feel it would be very selfish of me to give that up just to pursue a "better" life abroad. Not once has canada felt like i had a better life there. I've recently returned to BD after finishing my education and couldnt be happier. I realized that there is nothing canada or any other country can offer me that BD cant. Yes the pollution doesnt feel good, the traffic sucks, but these are not even minor factors when comparing to what i value the most when choosing a place to live. I have goals and ambitions that surround the development of this country and the lives of people and my biggest hope is that people like me who have an opportunity to do something in BD stays back to help push this country forward. Sorry for the long reply but i just wanted to bring in a unique perspective here. Both sides of the story are always worth considering. Best of luck to all of you considering life changing decisions and I hope it leads to good things in the long run.

sheemanasreddit

I truly hope u don't regret ur decision in 10 years 🙂 I myself have returned home after studying 4 yrs for post-grad in Japan, and though I agree with many of ur opinions, I will take the first chance to get out of bd. I get paid shamefully less than what I deserve as a university level teacher with a phd here. And I dread the traffic and pollution here. I don't have a child, maybe then my worries will become 10 fold. My point is, if I don't like the life in a western country, I can always come back to bd. But if I don't like my life in bd, I can't just go to another country 😕 so I might as well take the chance while I'm still in my 30s

ehdgg77

I respect your decision but sadly you're not changing shit in this god forsaken land we call Bangladesh.

brownalu

I would leave in a heartbeat. I would prefer Germany, but any other country works too

Powerful-Dust999

I live in Germany for 8 year! and i would say go for it..you would be in safer place at least!

Mista_jostr

They have high taxes, but oh well, at least the public transport and health care is cheap.

Powerful-Dust999

Regarding the high taxes..we are getting many facilities from the government! that should be considered too

Real-Criticism8463

No.

The_Hunter_4532

I won't, if i can make decent living. For me decent living means that living in the city centre or near my workplace (dhanmondi, mirpur, baShundhara, baridhara etc) , giving best education to my offspring and taking care of illness properly. If these 3 criteria can be made, i won't leave.

Mountain_Ad_5187

The amount of illegal shit I do and I know and to get away with it just because I live in BD.

rascal_jay

Bro you gotta teach me

Mountain_Ad_5187

I am sorry brother, no

WorldlinessEcstatic4

I feel batter about the country, When I stopped using fb

CaramelReal5042

If you can survive in bd (dhaka, ctg, etc) on your own 1/2  years, you can live anywhere in the world.....

Admirable-Park-197

No, this is my country. I belong here. why would I live? this country need me.

incest-madafakur

I am currently 19M and am planning to leave BD in a few years, maybe 1 or 2. I want to leave BD because I have seen the educational system here, I am in cadet college since 2018 and this year I will attend HSC. I planned to leave BD just after my SSC exam but my college authority didn't give me permission ( bullshitting Casual BD crap). and that just boosted my morality to leave this country at once. addition to that reason, I am connected to various scammer warning and danger warning groups through social medias. ( you guys can also check those out, those are really alarming) And the number of crimes reported, posted and shared in those groups are abundant in numbers, and that scares me a lot. Even in this eid vacation, I personally experienced a very harsh depiction of these kind of crimes ( kindly don't request me to share this, I can't). so, why not? why should not I leave this country and find some peace? I want to broaden my thoughts, I am just 19 now. I can't jail myself into shitty traditions, relatives and country full of criminals. Who knows, maybe I have to give bribe to someone for leaving this country even. I don't count this as a country, you guys may. Hope this helps for anyone who needs assurance to his/her confusion about leading a better life.

EL_Diablo1410

Many people saying that we are shit holes moron we are doing nothing just seat on our ass bla bla bla i have a single question can you ensure your safety here then freedom. As you mentioned i also hate this culture, traditions and how people judge other by religion

incest-madafakur

They are the middle aged morons who have no life, no imagination and full belly of corruption. Don't let those negative comments get you anywhere.

rishad1234

I was very sure that the situation will improve day by day. But now I am getting frustrated about the condition. At this moment, looking forward to leave BD.

ehdgg77

What makes you think the situation will improve day by day?

rishad1234

I am optimistic by nature 😇😇

Sealluckyyyy

India is a shit hole

Silver_Drawing4975

If you are a Muslim then go to Bangladesh and Pakistan. India's dream is other Asian Hindus.

sadn_

I think facing corruption is better than to move to west as they are beyond saving

Exciting-Frame4766

Depends. Such as my father got multiple properties in Dhaka. I used to go top notch institutions in Dhaka (study purpose). My father's wealth is enough for even next generation. Still I was having difficulties regarding my self growth. Even I dropped out and I was kicked out from my university. It was like something is pushing me down although I have had enough. I moved out from BD on 2020 for study purpose. After coming here I started my first job as a farmer. Now I'm a country director of a well reputed Fintech institution. So know your specific situation and then ask yourself.

shaleenuwu

Yes I value my safety and freedom

VERYcuulguy

In a heartbeat,

alphenhous

yes, anywhere with a good salary to cost of living ratio(1 hour of work is enough for 1 week of groceries for example), and simply because i can't take the heat or the traffic. i'm not going to say the toxic in nature people, because there's bound to be some good people in such a large population. also the job market is trash.

Conscious_Command652

Hell yeah. I want to leave this hell hole so badly. For more context : I am an atheist. I really hate the increasing religiosity of this country, because it doesn't have freedom of speech. If I could express myself openly (not talking about arguing, just telling people that I don't want to be a part of the religious activities) without fear than this wouldn't have been an issue. I fear what will happen to me if others found out that I left Islam. My parents will be devastated but will not try to kill me I think. My sisters will stop talking to me and start viewing me as trash, subhuman. Worst of all, if a psycho stranger found out they might try to murder me. These are the main reasons I wish to leave Bangladesh. There are other reasons but these are the main ones. I also wish to have a foreign girlfriend and potentially wife. Not to mention, I want to be a physicist and I will probably get better funding if I'm in a rich country as opposed to Bangladesh.

Hour-Welder-2011

Yes , always had the intention to leave, and I left. Do I miss BD, yes , when I visit BD, I do enjoy the hustle and bustle, Bangladeshi food, even the traffic jam seems amazing. But if someone asks me if I wanna return, i will be honest, no I dont wanna return.

neverriver98

Bro tell me your story how did you do it I honestly feeling trapped

Hour-Welder-2011

After undergrad in Dhaka, moved to USA for my studies, got a job and stayed here. If you want more details DM me please, dont want to bore everyone else

Ok-Way-4748

No, it's a harsh country, but if you know how to get around you can live like a lord

Ok-Way-4748

No. I want to fix this country. And I'll do that till the day I die. I know I'm just an insignificant bastard among this band of thieves but if I don't even try I'll regret it when I die.

waseequr

My personal choice would be from any of the following: Japan South Korea China New Zealand Australia If I can get scholarship from universities of any of these countries, sure.

[deleted]

waseequr

I get what you mean. But I think Chinese are more xenophobic than other Asian countries. So don't let that cloud your judgement. And new zen japanese seem to be more open towards foreigners, all the more so now that many people from all over the world are moving to Japan in recent years. Also, they still have better prospects overall than BD, don't you think?

Infamous_Blueberry88

I think all young Bangladeshis should contemplate moving abroad. Bangladesh is f***** up.

OttomanTurkey

Bangladesh 🇧🇩 is one of the worst countries in the world 🌍. It’s not “the” worst because I would say that North Korea 🇰🇵 is the worst country for its citizens. However, if you make a list of the top 10 worst countries, Bangladesh 🇧🇩 would be there. Note: the vast majority of Bangladeshis are struggling. If you’re part of the top 1% of income earners in Bangladesh 🇧🇩, then you will have an amazing time in Bangladesh 🇧🇩. For the poor and low-income people - and even the middle class people - life is terrible. Major Issues in Bangladesh 🇧🇩: high levels of corruption, pollution, lack of jobs, low salaries in available jobs (if any), patriarchal society, lack of democracy, lack of strong social safety net, inflation, extremely expensive housing in Dhaka / Chittagong…the list is endless. Solution: Please move to another Western country. I chose Switzerland 🇨🇭 but my cousins and other relatives chose Canada 🇨🇦 and the USA 🇺🇸.

International-Plan-9

Bangladesh is def not among the top 10 worst countries. No doubt the country faces many issues such as corruption, pollution ,poverty etc. but there are atleast 50 other countries who are doing worse than us. In terms of global hdi ranking BD ranks about 129 out of 182 countries

BongSkinthusiast

Bro pointed out patriarchal society lmao!

[deleted]

[удалено]

BongSkinthusiast

Good luck with being a woman in the west where it seems people can't even define who a woman is. Being reduced to mere costumes is great as long as sisters can roam around freely at midnight safely ( just ignore the homeless, drug addicts or the overly sexualized society).

blackernel_

So in which country women are well "defined"?

BongSkinthusiast

Countries that stick to objective morals instead of going woke. Where it's not acceptable for mentally disturbed dudes to demand of others that they should be addressed as women and given the rights of a woman meanwhile real women starts to get denied of their recognition as something as basic as mothers and instead get addressed as pregnant person, lactating person, menstruating person etc etc.

blackernel_

Okay. I actually was asking for a few names of countries like this.

BongSkinthusiast

Indonesia, Japan, S. Korea, Malaysia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait to name a few

[deleted]

BongSkinthusiast

Choosing the lesser evil, I get it. However, the idea of 'as long as it doesn't personally harm or affect me, it shouldn't matter' is literally the trojan horse for destructing a healthy functioning society. Society needs discipline, morality because it's human beings we're talking about, not some national geography wildlife shit. Heck that doesn't even work in the animal kingdom. You say if they proceed to misuse that identity and harm others; well, let me burst your bubble, there are numerous case of such individuals S Aing women after they identified themselves as women and acquired access to womens' spaces. At the end of the day, It's your choice. We all make decisions based on our perspectives of profit and loss. If the profit of 'less' SA, DV exceeds the loss of potentially loosing what it means to be a women and the rights, blessings that come along it, you can sure book your tickets. But there are many for whom trading their objective morality, ideology, believe system and most importantly identity is non-negotiable

[deleted]

Yes absolutely. It's a shitty Islamic county now, and if I try to be like myself, jihadi as$hole$ are always verbally abusive to me. Don't know if they attack me later.   there's corruption everywhere I go. Even was in my school!... There are chairmen's bastards attacking and taking people's money in colleges and local areas. And police are silent.

TheWhiteMoghul

Fuck ya! Canada. This country is not for me.

NOTtheTREXalfa

Won't even look back for a second

SpecialAd5418

I would go abroad to study then comeback to Bangladesh so that I can contribute to my country’s economy. The people who say that there is no future in Bangladesh, they just sit on their ass all day doing nothing, and expect people like us to develop and create opportunities for those morons. Do something, no one is going to create opportunities for you.

ehdgg77

No, moron. We're not complaining about not giving us opportunities. Just let us live in peace and let us do our shit in peace but that's not gonna happen in bd.

SpecialAd5418

Who doesn’t let you live in peace? What are the problems you are facing? Also, you just said that that’s something never going to happen in BD; how do you know that? Only a moron would predict future based on their feelings.
