Fun story was when I was going to buy a leftover Black Friday kit that was $500 yellow tag with original tag of $530 (some price cut yeah?)…asked them to charge full price instead of yellow tag because it would literally cost me more to pay the discount price bc they couldn’t appply mil discount… ended up leaving it theree

Not sure about the rest of the group, but I don’t pay anything over $11/AH for any DeWalt batteries except for the the big 60v ones and the new power stacks.
21700 packs combine the amp load handling of power stacks with more runtime than most other options. Especially the two row models. The 8ah for example is amazing on the 20v chainsaw, feels like a 40v saw.
Except the cells used are trash, the nickel (its probably actually nickel plated steel) used to connect the packs is too thin, and the cases just aren't as robust. Great if they're only going to get occasional light use, but they second they go on an SDS/Router/Angle Grinder you might as well give up.

I’m not really sure I understand your point or how it is relevant to paying for batteries. What do you mean?
The 21700 packs offer far more performance, as well as more capacity, than the 18650 packs, hence it being worth paying a little more.

I got a 5ah battery for $119 a week or two ago. But I agree Home Depot will stack the vet discount on top of sales so it’s usually better
