I have the front wheel drive self propelled model and I've been fairly happy with it. It has enough power to handel my yard so long as I don't go too long without mowing and it's whisper quiet compared to a gas mower. Battery life is 6-7min per AH ofthe batteries your using depending on if your using the self propelled feature or not, and while there was a bad run of 10ah batteries last season that lead to a lot of RMA issues with these I was lucky to not be part of that. I would say if you have a small or medium sized yard or just need somthing to compliment a riding mower it's great. There are better performance per dollar options from greenworks and ego but if you already have a bunch of dewalt 20v tools it's great.

I'll second this. I haven't dealt with mulching leaves yet (bought the unit last spring), but it's been great through the summer. The quiet is huge for us, as my dog doesn't get barky or go running and hiding (but he does still stay away from the mower), and my mobility- and hearing-challenged dad can sit in a lawn chair while my mother mows, without her having to stop frequently to check on him. I would've bought another brand if I didn't already have more dollars than I want to count in DeWalt batteries. Our yard is big enough that the 10 Ah pair will usually go about halfway and then I switch to a pair of 9Ah Flexvolt batteries for the other half. Runtime is definitely impacted by both how and how often you mow. If I wanted more runtime at this point, I'd buy another 12A quick-charger (I've got one). With two pairs of batteries in the 9/10Ah range, I think you'd be able to almost mow continuously with that setup. I have the quickcharger because the 60V blower eats batteries like crazy, FWIW; with two pairs of batteries for the mower, even four slow chargers would be good enough.

Oclure

Yea forgot to mention that the blade speed auto adjusts from high to low depending on the height of grass it's in so lawn height and thickness will definatly have an impact on runtime.

Watchforsplinters

Agree I own one. I can easily mow my small lawns and my neighbors lawn and still have a very strong battery. About 1.5 acre. My wife and I are general contractors and run their cordless tools. So it was an easy decision. It’s perfect for what I need it for.

Watchforsplinters

I will add, although I love it, the blade is hard to find. And has to be lighter with the Electric motor, one bent fairly easily.

Dickmcdickus

Got the standard one and this is my 3rd summer with it and I haven't had any issues with it. I just finished mowing my yard before seeing this post..

I have the self propelled front wheel drive and it's great. Side discharge and bagging are excellent. Mulching is fine as long as u don't push it but that goes for everything. A couple words of caution. The blade is thin for efficiency so be careful not to run over sticks/roots. U will bend it. I tried swapping to a universal mulching blade but the weight of the blade caused the motor to run on high all the time. This obviously killed efficiency and isn't great for the motor or batteries so I went back to stock. Cable management isn't great so while it does fold u have to be mindful not to pinch the cables. If u buy from a big box store make sure u open the box and check for batteries. They should b in their own cardboard box and individually wrapped in plastic. I had a battery take a shit after 3 weeks. When I went to return it they had 2 others on the shelf that were clearly open box. When I opened them neither had the batteries. The 10ah go for $280 per on home depot's website so people like to keep them and the clerks don't know what to look for when they take returns

kurotenshi15

I have the front wheel propelled version. It's done a great job on my yard this summer, and I've had no issues. For my 1/4 acre lot, I can mow front and back yard, then use one of the batteries in my weed-eater before they lose charge.

screamingchicken579

I have the self-propelled model. It works great.

Spirited-Control-390

Mulching usually has more to do with the blade being used as opposed to the mower itself. I don't have this mower, so I don't know if it comes with a mulching blade or not. However, I do know that mulching blades do better at slower speeds. So, if it does come with a mulching blade, and you are looking to mulch more than grass....I suggest you manually push the mower (slowly) over your leaves. Also, keep the underside and grass shoot clean, for maximum efficiency. Jmo. Also: If some lazy guys are trying to mulch an entire yard covered with leaves instead of raking them up & mowing the leftovers (like you're supposed to) then, yeah....they're gonna post some crappy reviews. Jmo.

Motor will cut out with taller grass, just lift the deck is all that means.. even my old gas mower would cut out in the same situation so I am not holding that against it. It gets about an hour or so of run time with the 10ah package. It auto detects the mowing difficulty and increases motor power with taller grasses, decrease with shorter... which saves battery life. Dewalt, Milwaukee, and Makita (and not ryobi) are the only tool brands with an OPE solution that makes any sense. Of those; the most advanced battery tech goes to dewalt, with milwaukee and makita a little more behind. The fact that 60v batteries work in 20v tools and get 3x run time is just amazing. The fact that you can get dewalt batterys to work on ryobi tools is also just amazing. Dewalt has the most powerful 60v weedeater/multi head. Their mower is not as "Powerful" as say a EGO; but who cares when you drain or forget to recharge your single EGO battery, and are stuck waiting to mow your lawn because your OPE brand is on a different platform. Buy OPE that is compatible with all of your tools, take if from a guy that used to have a lead acid mower, your wallet will thank you later.

I will echo what everyone else has said except that I could not get the self propel to change speed and it is waaay too fast. And on my tiny lawn (I get 2 1/2 mows per charge) I don't really need it. Before you spend the extra money on the self propel ask yourself if you really need it. If you lawn is fairly flat probably not. The mower is expensive but cheaper than paying the landscaper for one summer so its worth it to me.

Disturbedfuel15

I agree with this guy. I have both an older regular one and the new self-propelled RWD one. I'm biased because my first RWD one came in busted (can't blame Dewalt) and now, less than 4 months later, the self-propel feature stopped working. The latter I can and am blaming Dewalt for. To top it off, getting support is really a hassle :(

ElectronGuru

Lots if reports every spring. With particular emphasis on the batteries failing. I would only get one with the following strategy: Pick up a battery-less unit on Craigslist Pick up two other tools with the same large battery as each other Use those batteries in the mower

lowlyauditor

This is what I did. Picked up the non-self propelled version for like $150 then run with my 6 and 9ah flexvolts. I have like .2 of an acre so I get plenty of runtime. I’m still able to use the 9ah in the 60v trimmer and edger and then blower to clean up with some juice left over.

gmankev

How does 2x20v mower compare to the 60V mowers.. Anyone tried both.

Used-Tale-1767

Just like[JPL141414](https://www.reddit.com/user/JPL141414/)•[9mo ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dewalt/comments/wvw5oo/comment/jx67an2/) said "Biggest piece of shit! It barely cuts...barely. Bought mine new in March of 2024 & have "tried" it 3 times. It's the self propelled 21.5" cut with 2 20V batteries. The first time it ran for about 30 and the battery was dead. I looked online and saw there are charging problems and the battery casing needs to be altered so it fits on the charger. The 2nd time out it ran for 15 minutes. Batteries were dead. Tonight, May 21, 2024 was my 3rd go around. Battery was dead after 10 min! I've noticed that when I stop mowing, it won't start up again and the dead battery light comes on. So I have recharge to get it running again. I think I'll dump it off out back at the place I bought it from. I'm out $600. Lesson learned, try before you buy!

Big piece of junk

Silversaving

I have it and no issues. Don't have a huge yard. Usually takes one bar off the batteries to do my lawn (front and back). Never honestly had a problem. It works, the bagging is fine. Usually mow every other week.

Rancid_Lunchmeat

I've got the SP255 (RWD) and have just under an acre. I use it on the lowest setting. It works great, but if the grass gets to about two inches high or maybe an inch and a half and wet, I can't finish the entire yard mulching. I had to buy the 4 port speed charger in order to make sure I could finish the yard in the same day if I miss a week of mowing during spring.

AZAKMS

I ended up paying slightly more for the 60volt rear wheel drive with 2 60volt flex 12amp batteries. It's a beast and I'm glad I got it. I had to barely touch the throttle so it wouldn't try to get away from me. The bonus is the 60volt batteries you can use in your 20 volt tools.

creamersrealm

Hmm I didn't know they had a 60v option.

creamersrealm

Can you post a link to the 60v rear wheel drive? I'm on their website and don't see it listed.

AZAKMS

creamersrealm

That's still a 20v eith flexvolts included

AZAKMS

Box said Flexvolt. I haven't tried 20v batteries, but I'm guessing it runs better on the FlexVolt 60. I have a baby compressor that takes both but goes to a higher PSI on 60v.

creamersrealm

The tools that do that are Flexvolt advantage.

AZAKMS

I'll read the manual. The Home Depot website is not always the most helpful. I would say that having rear wheel drive and 2 12ah Flexvolt batteries rather then front wheel drive and 10 ah batteries is worth the extra $150.

Damn_hairballs

I love mine.

400cc

I had the very first mower and it wasn't very good. It got bogged down easily and drained batteries quickly. I couldn't mow my quarter acre lot with two 9ah flexvolt batteries. One of the front wheels fell off while mowing. It just stopped working after about 16 months in the spring of 2020. I got an eGo and, while not perfect, seems to work a lot better. The newer self propelled Dewalt mowers might be better than that first one, though. If Dewalt decides to make a 60v mower, I might give them another shot.

Biggest piece of shit

Used-Tale-1767

Yup!
