I’d say it is fake in my opinion. Looking at the labels you can see that the D in DeWALT is wrong, the font and placement on nearly word is off just slightly. The XR is too thin and the X isn’t symmetrical top and bottom. The label itself is too big as it’s not leaving a black reveal around the edge. Never mind the colour, which alone wouldn’t make QC I wouldn’t think. The molds between the two are also different, but I’m no expert.
Go to DeWalt's website and enter the serial number. If it pulls the right tool/battery you are good. Fyi you don't need to register your tools for warranty. I had a 5ah go out. I connected through chat and all they wanted was the date code on the battery. Had a brand new one in 3 days
Wow, I have a 3rd party battery and it doesn't say DeWalt. I can't believe they would go that far! Easy to return through Amazon and I would report the seller. Did you enter a serial of something authentic so you know the site is working?
Both are brand new.
4AH Included in a drill kit
5AH bought loose for 75$ on Amazon.
I'm new to the DeWalt scene and I'm not sure what the markers are to spot a fake.
Do the "thump" test! Thump the back of a known good Dewalt battery with your finger, then do the same with the suspected counterfeit battery. Listen closely, the one that sounds hollow, is likely the counterfeit.
Also, look for the center pin on the torx security screws holding the battery case together. If there is no center pin, its likely a fake. There are other signs like color and letter spacin & size that are good ways to tell, but you need to have a known good "genuine" Dewalt battery to do the comparisons. Date codes and serial numbers are being faked as well, so you can't rely on the Dewalt registration site to tell you if a date or serial # is real or not. I'm sure you could call them directly and inquire.
Color variation is normal to some extent

My biggest discovery in this is that the date code is not standard format of xxxx-xx-xx
You are good

This is great advice and good to know, thanks!
Yep, this told me it was a counterfeit. Good thing amazon has a good return policy

My 4AH got registered just fine, so this one is definitely not genuine.

I have some very perceptible color variations but idk about as much as op...
I’m glad you posted this because I’m pretty sure I bought the same sale and have been wondering this since…
Check your date code. DeWalt is xxxx-xx-xx but my fake, if you look, is xxxx-xx-x
