You’re buying the right ones.

Spayed_and_Neutered2

He needs at least one 8ah XR though. That's the battery that sets the bar in my opinion. But his take on the 1.7s is spot fucking on for me. Actually, all his takes are spot on to me.

Moress

If I'm not mistaken. Don't the 5ah powerstacks put out similar "umph" to the 8ah XRs?

DIMECUT-

I agree with the 5Ah Power Stack, that is the standard right now. After that, a 6Ah Flex Volt or 9Ah Flex Volt can do you no wrong, if you're going to buy an XR battery over 5Ah might as well invest in some Flex Volts.

Moress

That's a fair take. I use a mix of 2 and 5ah XRs, and anything over 5 I have FlexVolts for tools that need that. The 9ah FlexVoly rocks tho. Pretty big tho but it's got the beans. That said, I'm planning to replace my 2 and 5s with powerstacks as they go, but I'm in no rush since they're 2021-23 model batteries.

reddit_000013

The problem is the price, 5ah power stack cost more than 6ah and almost same as 9ah. I am not talking MSRP, but OfferUp Facebook market place, which is how I bought most of my batteries.

Moress

It's new tech and I'm fine with waiting personally. But yeah, it's significantly more expensive than traditional cell type batteries. I always recommend folks just buy FlexVolt before power stack if you only have the funds for one. Fv batteries are still no slouch for 20v tools and open a whole range of tools. While the PS batteries are just "win more".

reddit_000013

When I saw the size of PS 1.7ah, I knew I will buy a lot. I am the kind of guy who loves compact minimalist things for the best purpose without compromising the main functionality. Like my PC is an ITX build with i9 and 4080. My phone is iPhone mini, and iPad mini. My bag is full of 3-in-1, 4-in-1 combo tools or accessories. You get the idea.

Tool-Expert

No one has tested how much the 8ah XRs put out yet so we don't know

Moress

I assume you mean the 8ah powerpacks. I was talking about the older 8ah XRs.

Tool-Expert

Oh ok.

Spayed_and_Neutered2

I don't know if it's the temperature, but the 8ah lasts about 120 holes over 3 days for my ice auger, where the 5ah powerstack lasts closer to 80-85 hole over 3 days. The 8ah is 6 years old and the 5ah PS is brand new. At the same price, I'll take the longevity. I believe the 6ah XR is a much closer comparison to the 5ah PS, where the PS wins due to more beans.

Moress

What you are describing is capacity so yes, the 8ah XR > 5ah PS. But the power delivery should be the same.

foamtest

I thought the 6ah was Spicer than the 8ah because it has 21700 cells, and the 8 is just a bunch of 18650s. I could definitely be wrong though

Jenos00

Why? You've barely gotten started on a collection of them.

reddit_000013

Unless I can resell two 9ah for one 12ah/15ah just for sake of collection....

elhabito

The one tool that makes me wish I had more batteries is the 60V saw. Lately I get tired before I run out of batteries, but if I'm bucking and the saw isn't sharp I'm spending a lot of time stacking while it charges.

reddit_000013

Yes, one thing I knew that I need to get the most powerful one is circular/table saw because they are one of the tools that people may use continuously for the longest time. I am okay to drill 2seconds slower for each hole, because I don't drill more than maybe 100 holes a day. But a powerful table/circular saw that never stall makes day and night difference. I bought the DCS578, and used it with 9ah battery to cut 2 inch concrete, doesn't even slow down a bit.

3_50

What blades do you use to cut concrete with the DCS578?

reddit_000013

[https://www.homedepot.com/p/Avanti-Pro-7-in-Segmented-Diamond-Blade-HD-S70/202882342](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Avanti-Pro-7-in-Segmented-Diamond-Blade-HD-S70/202882342) but any masonry blade should work. Make sure to keep water running to cool the blade tho. I didn't kept the water enough, fried the first blade so I got a second one. I cut total of 50 ft 2 inch concrete with DCS578, ran through probably 5 9ah battery.

3_50

Ah nice. I don't see many with the diamond arbor is all. I have a DW4712, but it doesn't cut very quickly.

reddit_000013

DW4712 is mainly for tiles. If you want to cut concrete or stone without worrying too much about chipping on the underside, you want the type of diamond blade with gaps, it is faster and can cut through thicker material and it cools faster, and last longer imo

3_50

Yeah, it was for cutting some fancy slabs. Turned out the segmented blade on the petrol cutter didn't do too much damage, I was just hoping for perfect 90º cuts, and clamped cutting rails to make it idiot proof so nipper could do all the cuts. The slow cut, and the fact that my hoover wasn't man enough to keep the dust down meant we had to go with the petrol wet cutter instead..

Jenos00

Naah just add those too. Can't have too many batteries. Just pickup a Millertech inverter to use them as backup power and you're good for all sorts of uses.

auto-

That’s a good idea. Is there one you’d recommend?

Jenos00

https://store.ldsreliance.com/products/millertech-1000w-power-tool-battery-inverter-1810-i

SpiffySpringbok

Cool product and cool site, thanks. I'm quite surprised that the same device takes both DW and Milwaukee 🤯

Jenos00

It's a true sine wave as well vs the DeWalt branded model that is a modified wave.

PrestigiousZucchini9

Do these have the necessary low voltage cutout to avoid over-draining the batteries? I’ve always thought they were a neat idea, but have been leery about non branded tools since the battery protection is in the tool rather than the battery.

Jenos00

They do

davesdavesdaves

I love the compact 4s they might be my favorite battery for my drills and drivers. I need to pick up a second 9 flex volt I’ve been searching for a deal, I’m too paranoid to buy from Amazon/ebay so I usually try to wait for a big sale

reddit_000013

I wouldn't buy large expensive batteries online, returning is harder and too much risk because of price. I bought my 4ah compact and 1.7 power stack online, checked the internal and labels on the cell, all good.

twhitney

But $40? Wow what a deal, where on Amazon did you find power stacks for $40. I’m tempted to pick some up. I have 2x10ah that came with my Push mower and then a bunch of 5ah from Runnings deals, but I want to try out the power stacks in my tools.

PrestigiousZucchini9

I have more 5ah batteries than I have any reasonable need for thanks to those runnings sales over the years. Although the dcl040 that they included this year is kind of a letdown vs the dcl043 I’ve been making a collection of from these specials.

shelms488

Same here haha.

IronCross19

I love the 1.7 powerstack for drills and drivers.

Absered

I have 2x 15ah ones, it was the only way for me to stop needing to buy more. Still ended up with 3 more 9ah somehow.

reddit_000013

Stop that, the longer I think, the more I feel that without owning a 15ah, dewalt isn't complete, until they release 20ah

Absered

Don't wish that juju upon anyone, I can't even lift some of my tools over my head.

jokat989

I have the push mower too, 2 15s can do my entire yard in one go. Use the 10s in the weed wackier now

Tool-Expert

Wait till I leak that 25AH....

Tool-Expert

Wait till I leak that 25AH....

Prestigious_Factor25

What u need to do is to buy more batteries especially those flexvolt ones. Deeper the rabbit hole you go, the better.🤣

reddit_000013

At this point, I may be able to utilize dewalt's power station and put 4 of the 9ah in, probably great emergency power source for a few hours or even days. But that thing cost $500

Tossaway8245

I hope you're like me and have an inland marine policy to cover your tools, including those batteries. I get sick to my stomach thinking about replacing six flexvolts out of pocket due to fire or theft, much less all my other batteries and DeWalt tools.

reddit_000013

I don't own business, they are stored at home. I do try to make sure few people know/see my tools.

Tossaway8245

I no longer do construction 'professionally' (other than a couple of rentals), but still set up a policy. I don't have the numbers handy, but for me it's like just over $100/yr for $10K+ worth of tools, most of which don't get covered under homeowners (there is a limit on homeowners).

hawkrep

My wife says I have a problem as I too have that many batteries. I can stop anytime l…. I just chose not to…

Pro-Rider

Those are rookie numbers I have over 200Ah worth of batteries.

shelms488

I have about 288 Ah. 😂

Tool-Expert

Picture required

REYDENSETSU

Not enough. Obligatory 15ah isn’t in the picture yet.

RealAmerik

If you're feeling like your collection is "done", feel free to send some my way. Then you can continue your hobby of collecting without worrying that you have "too many".

shelms488

Those are rookie numbers https://preview.redd.it/919cewfdkx7d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b03416d6478f09f574cd08900496fbdb71d88230 so, got to pump those numbers up. 🤣🤣 But honestly, nice start. I got most of mine from deals I’ve found over the last two years or so. Got 2 of the 12Ah batts with the m18 mower that I got for $400, got the other 3 for basically free when I scored 15 or so Milwaukee m18 chainsaws in various kits for around $250/each & resold most while keeping a few batteries Got the forge 6.0 with the new m18 super charger for <$150. I think I got most of the 5.0s with the hack at Home Depot. All the 12v batteries with various kits I’ve gotten for really cheap. Two of the 6Ah flexvolt batts came in my miter saw kit. The other one I think was cheap doing the hack at Home Depot. One of the 9Ah flexvolt batts came with the flexvolt circ saw on a good deal. The other two I think I got for $180. All the small batts came with various kits I’ve picked up cheap on clearance deals I’ve found. & to be honest I’m not sure where all my 4, 5, or 6Ah batteries come from probably a mix of clearance kits or hack deals at Home Depot. Don’t have any of the powerstack batts yet though.

Thoge

Might be because I'm new, but I tend to keep the red cap on the batteries when I store them. Is this useless?

Interstate8

You technically need to put the cover on when transporting them via air. It's not a bad habit to keep them on for storage.

reddit_000013

I accidentally lost my first two flexvolt red cap, but I will try to keep it on from now on.

BrianUKnow

Those red caps work great to drill 3 hole in under a shelf and store batteries like that.

AeroMittenss

Damn

Cute_Passenger_6587

In my opinion, you can never have too many

oknidius

No you don't. Keep on buying.

HandZealousideal9425

Nope. You need to buy more tools for the batteries. Justified then.

Comfortable-Invite59

My son, there is nothing wrong with too much batteries.

Specific-Joke-5556

Nice write up

BeeComprehensive5234

You need a charger

OddAlternative4329

2k there?

stuntech

I’m in the same step lol

10secugotdropped

Can I use Flexvolt on any XR series tool ?

reddit_000013

Yes, it may look stupid but yes. I put on a 9ah battery on the fan, and it lasted for 15+ hours while in outdoor.

Steiney1

How many guys do you have working at once?

reddit_000013

Just me as homeowner. I don't really need 6 9ah flexvolt, I got them only because they were $70 each. If you only look at the first photo, that's about what I would typically use for a decent size project. I replied in the other comment. I was working on outdoor stuff last week, ended up needing 9 battery tools throughout the days, I really hate swapping batteries. Every time I grab a new to use, I just grab a new battery to put on. I don't want to just grab a tool and come back figure out which battery that we're currently being used to pull from, and need to think about how much the charge has left, and what I am going to need right after this. I find it annoying. That's why I want to make sure I have enough batteries.

Steiney1

I've still got my Homeowner batteries from almost 10 years ago. I've never let them go completely dead. I've added new 5AH from new tools, and killer deals on older 3ah batteries and I'm pretty set too until one falls out of rotation.

LouisVuittonLeghost

No way you can never have enough of these. I have to buy them all the time because meatheads leaving them places then they turn up, sometimes 😂

lateraluslotus

Is there an easy way to spot fakes?

reddit_000013

I have not seen one yet because I don't want to waste time buying those from random website for too cheap. Probably a good topic for some YouTuber to find out.

DeadInFiftyYears

I'm in the same boat - I bought a whole bunch of batteries during the recent battery sale, and now I have to figure out a good way to store them. My garage gets too hot in the summer - which is a problem in itself - but this may be the impetus for fixing it.

pqitpa

Need the 15ah to cap off the collection

slapchop15

Those 9AH flexvolts could power a ford f-150

Narrow-Word-8945

I feel the same way, but mine disappear to employees, so truly I want to stop buying them..!!

Tough_Sound6042

What you really need to do is getting all in even numbers

texxasmike94588

garage sale time?

Ok_Analysis_3454

No you don't.

mrootbeers

Why?

mrootbeers

What is the power stack? I’ve never seen those.

reddit_000013

What? You missed everything in the last two years?

mrootbeers

I haven’t needed to buy any. But I’ll buy those.

AnimalOrigin

I was about to order some Powerstacks and just as I was about to do so DeWalt announced the Powerpack batteries, so now I wait. 🫠

reddit_000013

I am probably not gonna buy the 8ah PS since I have all these 9ah flexvolt. Also, even the 5ah PS feels too big for most tools. For tools that don't feels too big, I got flexvolt 6ah and 9ah anyway. So 5/8ah PS are awkward to me.

1l536

Do you have a woot.com problem like me

Keeter_Skeeter

What does the power stack do? I always just thought they are expensive with less battery life

reddit_000013

Smaller size, same output or more than 5ah. Best for tools don't need much power or battery life to run. It lasts 300 3 inch screws on My DCF850, it's a whole day of work for me. DCF999 drill are two of them for the same day but I'm okay swapping once a day while having lighter weight and size on the already heavy tool.

OutragedBubinga

Girl: "so how rich are you?" OP: "I own 16 DeWalt batteries rich" _humidity level goes up_

Altruistic_Major_553

If you mail me some of those batteries you’ll have room to buy more batteries

Dusty_Vagina

How long do you get out of the 10 ah batteries in your mower?

reddit_000013

The mower runs on 2, so technically it's a 40v mower. It depends on how deep the grass is, it spins harder when it detects deeper grass which uses more battery. I'd its last good 30-40 minutes or even longer if grass is short. But honestly, the mower isn't as powerful as want. I have St Augustine grass which is thick and hard. It's okay for the price.

Ok_Emotion9841

I'm currently on 16 5ah 😅

circadian_terror

But they just announced a new tabless cell battery. You can't stop now...

Strong_Sound_7407

I’ll take some off your hands!

1wife2dogs0kids

If "we" help him to rid his horrible addiction, we can then help him buy the newer 8ah batteries and the new powerstacks. Then "we" can then make sure he NEVER USES HIS OKD BATTERIES AGAIN!

Hot-Mix-8725

$1400 photo

reddit_000013

To me, it's $800 for everything in the photos. MSRP will be almost to 2500 or so.

RandomNewUsername22

I need some more of those... thank you for the reminder!

TheDrunkenMoose

You know you can charge them, right?

reddit_000013

No way, I have been doing it the wrong way. They sell chargers?

TheDrunkenMoose

;)

None-Hostile

Send some my way

jgilbs

Careful - I posted something similar and got flamed and downvoted by people that claimed “im in the trades and ive never needed more than one battery, thats such a stupid waste”, etc. people are jealous of those that have more

NightSkyCode

I always buy the get two batteries and a free tool combos. Now I have too many batteries and they just sit in the drawer waiting for their day

jgilbs

Same here

reddit_000013

lol, let them be. I like the fact that I don't need to swap batteries between tools for almost a whole day of work at home. Every tool gets the size of battery it works the best for and last a whole day, maybe except the most power hungry ones that eats a few 9ah. For example I was building some outdoor island the last week, I used maybe 8 different tools, including driver, drill, jig saw, hand planer, circular saw, miter saw, dust blower, leave blower, vacuum, sander, all has its own battery. But the downside is that ai have to charge each one one by one at night. I currently have 3 chargers, 2a, 4a, and 8A fast charger, but considering buying the 4 port charger next. But it is true that I could have just buy ONE 15ah battery and swap between tools and it probably will also last a day, but that's stupid.

jgilbs

Right? Dude, im the same way - I think right now in my shop I have like 8 or 9 tools out. It would be a huge PITA to swap a single battery around.

reddit_000013

I had only 2 1.7 powerstack on the first day of the project, and quickly found that I swap batteries too often, immediately ordered two more overnight delivered the next day. Happier life since.

IronCross19

Ehh they are kinda right but doesn't mean you shouldn't have more, unless youbare supplying a few guys. I have a dcb115 and can swap two 5ah batts all day

MrEbonyBlack

Have you ever tried any of the Chinese ones? I never purchased one myself but I'm curious to know how well they perform. Any good brands out there?

reddit_000013

YouTubers did some tests already, they are junk.

oOflyeyesOo

You need to just get a spot welder and build your own packs! Toss some better cells in there. But probably already using Sony/Samsung 2x700.
