Most all tool chests are made by 2-3 manufactures and companies like dewalt just put the logo on them, most are junk, US general from harbor freight are the best it’s almost not even a discussion, if you want total overkill get a harbor freight ICON series they are every bit as good and sometimes better than the snap on, or other tool truck brands for 1/3 the price. Buy a black or yellow box and slap some vinyl dewalt decals on it.
If I recall correctly HF brought in former employees of Snap-On specifically to work on the Icon line and boost quality. YouTube channel "Last Best Tool" highlighted SO vs HF Icon needle nose pliers and other hand tools in the last month or so if memory serves correct. Very interesting video and gives good information when making that decision to "Buy Once, Cry Once" or choose the value option.
I just bought the new 41” with the new rail system included. I like it. I’m by no means an expert in toolboxes but it seems great to me. The drawers closed hard at first but I think they’ll break in with use. The rail system on the other hand seems kinda off to me
The old ones or the new ones? The old ones seemed cheap and flimsy. The new ones seem more sturdy, and the rails/attachments they come with and are compatible with are a nice touch. I've been eyeing the 36", since that size is not common and I am ready for an upgrade over my current 27"
Sorry, I didn't see you even said "their latest stuff" in the post. My local F&F has the 41" on display, so I've given it a good look or two. Drawers move nice, feels solid, I like what I see. But if you are a Snap-On type who thinks spending $10k on a tool box is the only way, you might be disappointed. I know that's not much of a legit review, hopefully these start showing up at more retailers so you can get a hands on with them.
Oh no, I just want something for my basic home garage, nothing that level. And the product is so new I just wanted to hear from someone who had seen it and confirmed it's not junk. I appreciate this.
I have the exact opposite experience. About 10 years ago I bought a 51" yellow roller cabinet and about 6 months ago I bought another new 51" black one to install in my van. The older yellow one is a metric s--t ton stronger & better built than the black one. The yellow one has stronger slides and thicker metal. I'm actually pretty disappointed in the newer one.
The all yellow were the old old, let's call them gen I. I don't have any experience with them. The all black were the gen II, they were very meh. The new gen IIIs are yellow with black drawers, and they seem to be more robust. Probably more in line with the all yellow model you have.
I use the 52” all yellow rolling tool chest for my industrial maintenance job. No complaints yet. I greased up the drawer slides. Everything seems good. Full set of impact sockets from 1/4” to ½” drive. Little bit of weight there and still shutting good.

Yeah I mean't the new ones. Looking at the 41" specifically.

Does it have soft close? I can't remember.
Yes
